Get a large backhoe. Dig a large trench, Assemble your steel reinforcements bury it and be done with it. I know I know it wouldn’t be a secret then. But do you really think your neighbor is going to keep the secret.

Why can't you just dig a slit in the ground so that the car can do a 180° that way you don't have as much digging to do and all you need is a foot or so of space to dig for the car to rotate.

There are many versions of bat caves.
      1. Batman discovered a cave in his property and used it.
      2. Batman hired workers to construct "underground train station" who had no idea what they are constructing.
      3. Batman's workers are paid a lot to keep their mouth shut. That's all it says. Could be illegal immigrant workers who could expose themselves trying to expose Batman. We have seen him taking help from smugglers.

@Clever Name Here Bro I get it. You think two dudes shooting a car full of explosives is skillful and constitutes a “team.” Most of us don’t, and the comment you replied to was insinuating the guy who made the original video hired a construction team to do the job for him and took all the credit, which is not at all what Kyle ever did.

For the car elevator bit, you could re-engineer a telescopic forklift mast mounted to the wall for vertical lift. Instead of forks have a gear driven rotary table mounted on its own telescope, so it can slide in and out horizontally. Also for multi-car use, have 2 platforms stacked on one another. First car comes down and is pulled to the side with cables or whatever, leaving a second platform for a second car to come strait down.

    • Crandacular

Hey Colin! Loved this series so far and I can’t wait to see where this goes next! I love the idea of the car lift! I don’t know if you would want to, but if you build it into a circular shape- you could have either the base the lift sits on spin, pushed manually or hydraulically, or you could have the platform the car sits on spin and have that turn, similar to a locomotive turntable.

  • From-the-Brink

Hey Colin! I have a suggestion for the car platform "round house". Hopefully I can be descriptive enough. This explanation assumes the front of the car is towards the house initially. 1. Imagine two rectangular platforms with curved corners stacked about a meter apart to house the "magic" apparatus in between and standard scissors lift on the bottom. 2. When lowering, the platform "sandwich" stops at a point where the lower part is flush with the floor. 3a. The top platform pivots near the rear of the car so that the front swings wide to the left. 3b. The end of the platform that swings out onto the floor has wheels on the bottom that are angled (or very heavy duty casters maybe), to track the needed radius. 3c. The pivot end of the platform has a monster bearing (think giant lazy susan), which has it's own rotational drive. That rotation apparatus is mounted on a track that spans the length of the platform. (I'm thinking maybe rack and pinion coupled with a huge cog under the pivot to accomplish both the rotation and travel at once.) 3d. So, the front of the car platform swings out to the left, rolling, while the rear of the car simultaneously rotates 180 degrees as it travels to the other end of the lower platform. 4. Once rotation if complete, then the "sandwich" lowers the rest of the way until top platform is flush. You can always rig this up to engage the turning cycle later too, so you can get out right away. I was just thinking that pneumatic wheels on the swing end would be easy but some sort of recessed track would probably be better. Of course, the simpler solution would probably be to just have the turntable on the surface with the drop-away rectangle platform in the center. Anyway, that's what I pictured in my head when you asked for ideas. I get crazy sometimes. Thanks! - Dale

  • Gary Cockerham
    Gary Cockerham 3 days ago

My first thought on the car park is to have a platform that similar to an excavator rotates. The moving frame has a hydraulic motor with a gear that meshes with a sun gear under the platform. That would leave how you lift it up and down to choice.

  • J Russell
    J Russell Day ago +1

I used a pneumatic/hydraulic single car in ground lift when I worked in a garage in the States. It has four arms that splay out from a central shaft. I think you would have no trouble modifying it so you could drive on and off.

Maybe some sort of railsystem with a turnable platform similar to a horizontal elevator like the one in germany above the trainstation.
Such that the platform drives a vertical slightly horizontal curve down into the batcave and can turn there.
A pair of rails is connected to the right facing side and another to the left, such that the Platform is always held horizontal when moving down and a bit to the side.

Would be worth a fortune, as in the U.K. it would be have to be sold as a bunker/tunnel complex with a house attached

Have you thought about adding glow in the dark paint along the side boards? Give you a bit of extra light and would look cool when the lights go off. Just like the Avatar's ~~Secret Tunnel!~~

2 years ago: this guy is digging a tunnel network under his own house, himself - Ok, this guy is crazy
Now: The digging stuff was granted casual considering we're dealing with "this" guy...
Also now: "This" guy is now planning to build an underground garage with lifting mechanism for parking two cars under his front door - Ok this guy is crazy
2 years later: The underground parking stuff was granted casual considering we're dealing with "THIS" guy...
Also 2 years later: "THIS" guy is now planning ??????????????????????????????????????????

You (In my opinion) really need a window with lighting behind, to 'show' the rock while in the Garage. Does not have to be large, but something for looking 'outside' I guess. Cause everyone needs a window in their Garage! I also think you should include a sump pump for emergency evacuation of water just in case. While you can still include it into your design for if a leak or flooding were to occur. Love what you have completed there. Just amazing!

@AcGjust well... he could copy the design of airplane windows to combat condensation, or just make the window removable so he can clean it from time to time... a refurbished skylight from a boat can do the trick

    • AcG

Will need something to battle the condensation and cleaning of the window from the rockside

I think it'd be cool to have a small section of the rock wall exposed behind glass all illuminated.
It'd be a nice nod to show what kind of ground they had to remove.

  • ・your non favorite person 👍・

You completing this phase has inspired me to go big with a garden plan I've had for a while rather than cheaping it. Thank you! Looks like I've got a lot of digging to do myself

For the car lift you could have a cork screw platform which could offset itself in the tunnel room so that when it returned to the surface it was turned 180°

Definitely one or two circular lifts for the DMC, mounting a hydraulic lift on top of a turntable. With it circular you won’t have to worry about rotating at multiples of 90 degrees, plus you could make the top look a bit like a Wallace and Gromit-esque pond.
