I gotta say... These kind of discussions are far more interesting than the constant barrage of staged and scripted jokes. I like them too (I mean I have watched these blokes since season 1 of neo-top gear), but sometimes it is nice to get actual car talk and reflection in a car show. This was more a thing in the early seasons of top gear and was reduced more and more as time went on. Season 24 was horrible.

That episode felt way more extreme than most of the previous ones, with the crash and the fire and the utter destruction. And watching the crash, it certainly did look much more serious than it actually was. Seeing his head jerk towards the window with no airbag curtains, and seeing his dazed expression when he exited the car, I was so sure he had a concussion and I teared up a bit. I was in a crash while I had my head resting against the window of a chevy spark before my side was rammed by an SUV with a nudge bar. I think I would have either had serious eye injuries with glass in my eyes, or suffered severe head/brain trauma had I not decided to lay my seat back and lie down 10 seconds before we got hit. I remember looking down at the shards of glass all over my lap and chest and just dissasociating, thinking I was in a dream the first few seconds after the crash. It is just such a scary experience.
However, my bf and I both loved the episode, my boyfriend even more so because he's northern Swedish and was very excited to see them visit. We can't wait for the next!

@Creamcups In the one accident I've been in - a passenger in a car sliding sideways towards a cliff face - I remember in the moments I saw that cliff coming towards my side of the car going "I'm tense. I need to relax or it'll hurt more", looked forward, released the tension in my neck, and then we made impact.
Managed to avoid whiplash, so something must have worked...

My wife and I were sitting on the couch watching the most recent special, and when James crashed into the wall, I had a very emotional reaction. I had crashed my motorbike two weeks prior (and received some injuries), and James is my favorite of the three, and I just sat there on the couch weeping in sympathy and maybe a little PTSD. It was certainly an emotional moment. I'm glad to see he seems to have healed up well.

@Honor Rolls Well, the EVO is an old car(2003~2004), so is Hammond’s WRX STI, back then side airbags wasn’t mandated every where, for example, Civic and Corolla back then doesn’t have them as well, and my 03’ Camry has side bags only because it’s a highest spec of V6 models, we really do come a long way in safety, that’s true even for Swedish and German cars

From my experience of breaking 3 ribs (I’m a rugby player), it’s such a weird experience. It’s almost like you can’t really feel that it’s broken.. maybe it was the pain meds, but you only really feel them if they touch something. I didn’t have any trouble breathing or anything.

This episode felt a lot more real with all their banter. Sure there are some heavily scripted moments, but it felt like the good old days of their top gear adventures. Best episode of Grand Tour yet imo

I literally jaw-dropped at the ending seeing the Evo arriving at the airport in all her majesty despite "facing" death twice and, despite that, still carrying on. Well done to the mechanics that worked to fix the car and BRAVO! to everyone involved in this episode, it was iconic. Glad that the lads are back and that James is fine :)

@nie wissen with this new found wisdom i have gathered from you I’ll be sure to use it to irritate whomever i can. I’ll sit back being smug while i watch other people try to argue the point that i shall be correct about.
I wasn’t expecting to learn something at 1:30am while drunk in the comments of a youtube video, but there I was learning from a complete stranger in the comments if a youtube video

@corey douglas yes many say america when refering to the states but when i hear america i think of a continent not a country. If you really want to irk people then when the say something like.."what does that sign say?" You can tell them it doesn't say a thing, you have to read it. if it did say something you would hear it (should be what does that sign read?) Not say

    • corey douglas
corey douglas 2 months ago +2

@nie wissen wow I’ve never really thought about that. I see or hear of America I instantly think of the United States, but your right America is a continent, there’s north and South America. I’m honestly sitting here in disbelief that i a 24 year old hadn’t realised or noticed this earlier. Like I’ve always known theres north and south but it hadn’t entered my mind at all when i think of America. I’m sure theres lots of others like me that instantly think USA ehen they hear or think of America instead of thinking about the continent as a whole or having Canada, Mexico, brazil or brasil? Not sure of spelling as its 1:30am and I’ve had a bit to drink, All those countries are American.
Thank you for being one to make me realise this and make me realise and learn sometimes that I should’ve actually known because I’ve understood the north and south but never really thought about it.
I can’t wait now for the next person to talk about America to me so i can say yeah but which American country just to watch them lose their minds then i can hit them with some facts

If you wanna be successful, you most take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You most look outward if you wanna be successful in life.

Thanks to James, I’m buying another Evo 8. I had one when they were brand new in 2003 and always regretted selling it, but thanks to James choosing an Evo for this episode, I couldn’t help but shop for another one. Also, I recently found out that a couple owners after I sold my Evo crashed it and totaled it in 2008 so the idea that an Evo gets wounded kinda hit home. I had to get another one and make sure it doesn’t end up also getting wounded

@Richard Harrold Exactly. He probably didn't want to do this and so they did this to make everyone think he was locked in the boot of die RS4.

We should definitely get more of these videos after specials. It's nice to see them outside of the rules of film making and just shoot the shit. And I love the running gag of Clarkson screaming in the boot but let's be honest, they didn't actually put him in there. One of the screams was from the Columbian special where Hammond crashed into the Jeep.
