Powerlifter VS Rock Climber - Who has stronger grip? Larry Wheels Sports
Magnus single handedly making grip sport trend again! ;-) Also Larry's strength on the block is nuts considering he was super fatigued at that point from rock climbing and doing all the other lifts. That's his strong point. Magnus nearly doing his bodyweight on the rolling handle, stupid strong... Magnus you bulking up you looking more muscular? Or you're using a wider lens :-D Love the vid, got some FOMO here. Love you guys!
Oh juji mmm yah
Yo Juji, hope you're good bro 🤙
We love Grip Genie!
🤙💪🔥
And we love u crazy man
Was nice of Magnus to give Larry a fighting chance. He never once took off his shirt. Would’ve been game over.
Comment of the week
For sure!
His back has 2 be lean af
I feel like i am missing the joke:(
@Flamey Cr Think this like when Dr. Banner turns to Hulk
I love these Magnus and Larry collabs because they aren't your typical loud obnoxious Clip-Sharers. They're both super chill
Agreed. No excessive theatrics or try hard body language. No “bro dawg” stuff one might say.
@Waldo FaldoAgreed. Very easy to watch.
“Say you’re talking Jessie James west without saying you’re talking about Jessie James west” lmao
this video energy was like:
- 🧐ok sir let's try +10 pounds?
- for sure
* puts the plates for him
- oh thanks my friend🙂
Can we just acknowledge how nice of a guy Larry is? The dude seems so genuine. He's the kind of guy you'd want to work out next to in the gym. No ego or looking down on others for not lifting as much as he can. Just a super positive and uplifting personality.
Up…….lifting!
Totally agree! I was just wanting to comment how awesome it is to see such positive encouragement in this type of environment! Definitely needs acknowledgement!
he's just normal. If you think he's nice that means other people you meet in your gym might be toxic
@pol pol 80% in the gym is toxic
Larry seems like such a good guy. You can tell he enjoyed being there and it was nice to see at 8:48 when he offered to help instead of just watching like most people would
I agree!
Yes Larry was legendary! it is awesome to see him on the channel.
He even calls Magnus sir.
@Shannon Fletcher That is something that I like about Americans... when they show that respect. In Australia we never call people sir, and that is okay, but I think that it is definitely classy, and a sign that they are confident in themself.
@KayAteChef To me it always sounds so weird :P In Denmark, saying the equivalent of "sir" is very rare usually done sarcastically in my experience, so to hear someone doing it genuinely is strange.
So nice to watch two gentlemen fully compete and encourage each other. The world needs more of these types of interactions.
Love these collaboration videos. Thank you Magnus for continuing to show the world that things aren't always what they appear, and that in fitness a smaller person can work towards and obtain a very tall peak without having to concern oneself so much with muscle mass.
Power lifters are not concerned with muscle mass so much as maximal strength. The muscle mass is a side effect.
Bodybuilders cultivate mass.
You know bodybuilders train for size right? You can train strength and gain minimal to no muscle if you want, just do harder lifts for less reps. Also don’t bulk much
The care Larry took with the rolling thunder grip, his respect and humble attitude, a real pleasure to watch, thank you for this collab.
Nice to see that Larry has respect for the equipment, he laid the rolling thunder down gently
Tell that to all the bars and plates he threw down deadlifting PRs 😂
I think something called the Rolling Thunder can handle being dropped. Might be out of respect for Magnus and the camera crew’s ears.
@aafwwr arewrwer yeah with the weight Larry is deadlifting no one is dropping it down gently
@aafwwr arewrwer thats different? try putting down a 300kg barbell gently youll probably break your spine
The intros to your videos are so well made Magnus, it's been awesome to see your channel progress over the past couple years
stolen comment
Loving these videos with Larry, hoping for even more to come!
Yeah his videos suck without Larry in them.
@TD B nah lol, his other videos are fire too
@TD B was that a joke....I can't tell.
@Dries Jansen yeah which ones. I'll wait
I know very well that Larry is an amazing person very respectful towards others, but in this video he showed something beyond respect towards Magnus, him calling Magnus sir and looking at him like "MAN I love what you do" with a huge amount of excitement in his eyes is just a beautiful thing to see. Love the content Magnus! Keep up the amazing work mate! :)
Keep in mind that the Rolling Thunder, and Juji’s RGT (rolling grip thing) are similar handles but different in terms of difficulty. The RGT has a better spin to it making it noticeably more difficult to use, so they deserve their own World Record lift. If someone can’t make a lift with an RGT (like they struggle and get to 75% but not an official rep) they might make that same weight with a rolling thunder
What about IronMinds Rolling Thunder, how does it compare?
Man, the real amazing thing about this channel is that every video seems like a different experience when watching it.
You have videos like the ones with adam and shawn which are so focused on the climbing world, the crag, finding new techniques... And then you have stuff like this which is genuinely fun and wholesome training. And each video has its own magic, no video is composed the same way because it feels like the experience influences the way the video is edited from start to bottom.
That's the reason this channel is one of the strongest climbing channels and it will remain this way if you keep making videos this way.
Larry is just such a nice person, always enjoy watching your videos with him.
IMO Magnus really won round 1 cleanly lifting the rolling thunder at 143 lbs. with either hand.
Definitely enjoy these videos lately, but I also hope magnus will still put out more of the climbing-focused videos as well. Really like the longer bouldering videos and stuff like that
Magnus, your ability to master your own competitive nature is fascinating. You do all these 'competitions/comparisons' with strong athletes (Who are also competitive by nature.) and yet that is not the energy that comes off these videos. Shared curiosity about personal limits is the energy you generate in these collaborations. I'm going to theorize that even though you are an introvert (By your own definition.) that you also exert considerable leadership influence on those around you. Influence/leadership is a hard quality to pin down, different people achieve it by different energies but the consistency of how your collaborations flow suggests YOU have a significant leadership effect even if you are not 'trying' to lead.
Always amazes me how freakishly strong Magnus is, he kept Larry on his toes for some of the tasks. Off topic, but Larry has a cool earthy voice. Also glad Magnus didn't rip off his skin like he usually does with the hub grip.
Like he usually does
I have always trained my grip as a small man and you have really got me back into it! My grandfather closed the Captains of Crush #1 gripper at age 68 back in 2005 with little training. It's a great feeling knowing no one can yank you away in a Judo match!
Been watching you for years and I just want to say I love your content. Makes me wish we had some sort of bouldering where I'm from, Id be climbing everyday. Great to see Larry is back, keep up the good content :)
Magnus is the most humble dude I have ever seen in videos, maybe a tie with Brian Shaw on humbleness. I love how Magnus will do everything he can to help them beat him. The lift weight to body weight ratio Magnus can lift with grip strength is insane. Hats off to Larry, first time I ever watched the guy and he seems like a pretty cool guy as well.
Brian and Larry are like mild-mannered Clark Kent until they change clothes. Then they turn into Superman.
@Winston Tucker absolutely, once it is time to work they transform to a whole different kind of animal!
Went climbing for the first time yesterday after binge watching you. Had to drive 90 minutes to find a gym but was totally worth it. Good fun.
Same here! Just tried bouldering for the first time yesterday after watching his videos. My hands and forearms are so sore today lol.
First time climbing will get you so sore! Keep it up though it gets much easier when your body acclimates!
Love your videos Magnus, you got me into climbing!
The pinch block world record is 51.40 kg (113.31 lb.) by Harri Tolonen of Finland. There's footage of Larry though in Iceland with Thor and Juji where he almost broke that years ago, it was off the ground.
Really nice to see these two vibing so naturally. There's this sense of mutual respect toward each other. Love it
This sort of stuff that Magnus does is pretty awesome. Gives an idea of power to weight ratios vs. overall power. Lifting a weight for a power lifter vs. being able to lift yourself when climbing.
I love this video! The amount of integrity and honesty and respect the both of you have is very honorable 🙏🏼
Would have been a sensational experience to have a gym day in the same place at the same time.
After the initial wonderment of where on earth have all the plates gone, what would have followed would have been an uncanny observation of two stylishly dressed blokes single-handedly lifting said weights close to the climbing walls in absurd quantities, employing contraptions to make the entire operation more difficult.
Certainly, an experience for a lifetime. Great video!
Larry is so agreeable, I bet someone once told him to become one of the strongest men to ever live, and he just said "sure, sounds good".
Just a nice bloke
The way they talk to each other, and raise each other up. So much mutual respect. Love to see it.
Damn Magnus, careful my man. At 11:34 it looks like you almost crushed your left foot. You get never injured by climbing, would be too bad if you hurt yourself like this. We all enjoy these challenges but even more enjoy you being well!
It’s one lift later at 11:37
Larry is such a great sportsman. It's so refreshing to see such friendly competition.
Wow man, huge inspiration. Would have never thought a rock climbing content could be so interesting. I am a boxer, I wanna try doing something similar with that too.
Larry seems like such a chill guy. This collab has been amazing
@Dave Gear doesn't make you "not chill"
@Nightwalk That's actually true, fair point man
I love how Larry puts down the grips so gentle like he doesnt want to damage them xD he seems like such a nice dude... very humble
opposite of Eddie Hall he throws them down 🤣
Super fun to watch, such a nice competition between the two of you. Keep cheering each other on, that's the spirit!
What an exciting challenge there. Really good job you guys. Respect both of you.
Super chill dude. I loved this. None of the up-in-your-face nonsense that others in the genre do. More collabs with Larry!
Hardly surprising that Larry crushed this but Magnus giving him a run for his money is insane given their weight difference. Great collab!
Two really cerebral strength athletes, their interaction is so respectful. Great to watch
Every time Magnus says he can't lift another 10 pounds... he lifts another 10 pounds
Sad there were no dynos
Larry like "you don't think so" 😂
I have a friend with blue eyes, who looks the same as Magnus, he's about 5"9" and he has such ridiculous hand strength, I've seen him on at least two occasions snap the jaws right off of cutters by trying to cut something, with commercial grade hardened cutters. I've never in my life broken a pair of cutters in half. I notice my friend's hands are also about 25% larger than mine, although his physical stature is smaller than me. There's a certain demographic of German/Swedish/Norwegian people who have absolutely insane grip strength. These people also generally have shorter than average arms, but their hands are much larger than average.
OMG those grips are insane!! I love this videos, thanks to you I got into climbing recently, hope to see more collabs in the future~ like Nathaniel Coleman :D
Went bouldering for the first time last week. Thank you for inspiring me! It was a blast :)
Ha! I've been waiting for this one Magnus. You and Larry have personalities that just fit. Here's the crazy thing, Larry is one of the strongest men in the world and 75 pounds heavier than you, but as I'm watching each exercise I expect you to win!
Larrys such a laidback, humble dude. Gotta love him
It'll never cease to amaze me that this man is able to grip and lift over his body weight without much struggle. Climbers are different yo
Larry isn't just a power lifter though. He has been training arm wrestling for a few years which requires a lot of grip strength and training that builds grip. Impressive grip strength from rock climber
Magnus you are influencing the whole world. We went a few times indoor climbing. Mentioned it to some parents of kids, now they just had their birthday party there. And they are not climbers at all. Never been. Most of them didn't even try the walls. but the kids all loved it. Keep it up
Magnus, love to see these kind of videos/vlogs where you do these kind of challanges. Looking forward to see your next video (power-, climbing or Marte challange.
Thanks from Bergen NO
I really love youre videos, theyre great
But Im really missing the old "just bouldering" videos. Would really like to see some in the future
Love these collabs!
Also, couldn't help reacting to the sneakers Larry is casually using in the gym. Let's just say I'd keep my chalk bag far away from those!
"People who watch your videos feel like they watch a friend" Just heard you say that in a video about your story. Love that statement because it's true. We keep coming back because we appreciate you Magnus.
Rolling thunder is an Ironmind product, while RGT (Rolling grip thing - the thing you were using) is a Grip genie product. RGT is much harder than Rolling thunder which is why the record you posted is so much higher than the weights you guys lifted.
you can see larry is impressed by how strong magnus is
I am surprised af too lmao
@Владислав Булаев the average weight fan vs the chad technique enjoyer
I was more impressed by Magnus’ ability to lift the weight with his body. I could imagine his shoulders/lower back failing long before his actual grip.
You guys are so respectful and friendly. Awesome to watch!
As a guy who competes in grip contest this is actually really impressive for not specifically training grip. Took me a year of training to hit these numbers
Its crazy that just a small change of grip can greatly affect how much weight u can lift
I would love to see a bodybuilding strength training video with Magnus and Larry!
Yeah, he won overall, which isn't that surprising, but power/weight, which is what rock climbing is (part of it, anyway), you took it by MILES. Seriously impressive, both of you.
Such a small off topic detail but I love how you guys don’t just slam the handles but release them gently. It shows good character in my book 👍
totally love the vibe here. amazing interaction. wish all sports had this type of camaraderie.
Really love to have a new video every week in this last week's. I enjoy every one of them but would love to have a real climbing video in the near future.
It’s such a small detail but I love how Larry never lets the handle just fall but slowly puts it down? How can you be such a nice person haha
Ye I noticed that too, the guy seems much nicer than Ill ever be :P
It was so funny watching the collab video on Magnus's channel where he doesn't add any extra drama or do much heavy editing on his videos. Larry comes across as such a humble quiet guy. Then on Larry's channel, he plays up the tough guy thing for his viewers because that's what you need to do on a powerlifting channel I guess. I definitely like Magnus's video editing style a lot better, but I'm sure they'd both be super cool to hang out with.
So glad to see this powerhouse of a duo, absolutely incredible in every way.
Love these videos. Magnus, you're an absolute unit mate
Magnus, please do a collab with Anatoly (Vladimir Shmodenko), it would be so interesting to see that guy do rock climbing. He is crazy strong with lean muscles and lightweight. So I'm guessing very similar to your power but without all the experience and technique for rock climbing.
He seems like a really really decent and warm hearted person, kudos to both of you.
Not sure if anyone has said it yet, but the vertical handle lift is sometimes called an Excalibur lift/grip, since it's supposed to feel like pulling a sword from a stone, and the Grip Genie product is called Hilt
The fact that it was actually competitive given the fact Larry had 100lbs of muscle on him is an insane testament to the P4P strength magnus has.
Larry is a very humble guy! Even when he won he doesn’t rub anything in! Just sends positive vibes to his opponent!!!
That smile, Larry is so positive always bringing good vibes.
One thing I love about Larry is that he is really humble. He's a sweet person.
Magnus' face at the end, super tired, could barely end the video haha I think what killed him was the slow increase in weights in the first one. A lot more reps were done so even if light it tires the muscle more. Nice competition regardless!
Putting magnus’s feet on blocks may have helped on a few of those. Being shorter put the lift half way up the abdomen beforehand which is tough to get leverage
Both of you are so humble and friendly and respectful with each other. What a video!
It's crazy how close he is in strength considering Larry is so much bigger and on the juice.
I was born with one normal hand (left) and on my right hand I have only 2 fingers which are very undersized and are missing joints (thumb and pinky).
About 5 years ago, my wife and I decided to try indoor rock climbing one day, and there were 3 guys all about my size (80kg), who were doing these type of grip strength exercises, my wife said "you should ask to join in" (she likes to push me out of my comfort zone)
I replied "hell no", as I saw these guys earlier on the "overhang wall?" (not sure of the name, but the one where you kinda climb backwards at 45 degrees instead of straight up vertically) and they looked like they were doing it quite easily.
On our way out, these guys were sitting having a rest after trying to beat each other on the grip strength devices, so I walked up and picked up the device that they had maxed out on, it was heavy but not overly heavy (I cant remember the exact weight), they were all laughing and excited, they came over and kept adding weight until I couldn't lift any more, I think they added about 15-20kg in total until I was done.
It was interesting to see that 35 years of compensating with my left hand left me stronger than these guys who trained these exercises for years.
Great Video as always! Could you do a Video with Marte again? I really miss to see her climb. And not to forget to ask for my husband (he is climbing for over 35 years now): can you do a clmbing video peferably outdoors? - We love your videos and it is considered cheating to watch them alone. 😅
Definitely this. Although obviously she may not like being in front of the camera now, which is fine.
@Chris Allen But are they even dating still? I was under the impression they split!
Such good sport between them, i love Magnus bowing out and still pushing Larry to try a PB
Very enjoyable to watch guests like these. This guy is also really charismatic. So if he hasn't started his own youtube channel yet(and he wants to), he probably should.
You obviously don't know Larry Wheels 😂
When you look at body weight, some of the lifts Magnus is pulling off would be impressive if he used both hands! Pound for pound that’s some serious strength!
Everytime you upload I get so excited, I'm going to try out climbing soon thanks to you!
Crazy how Magnus went from showing us cheese and waffles and stressing about a new gym to doing fitness challenges with Larry Wheels
This recent trend of collabing with other fitness influencers unrelated to climbing has cause an immense fangirl reaction out of me I have not felt since early youth, as a current adult. This shit goes hard.
You gotta do a video with anti-climb paint like Storror just did, I think you would smash those challenges! Muscle ups, and some holds would be super cool to see you do
It seems like Larry has really mellowed out over the years. Honestly, even though I liked him years ago, I think calm Larry is even more enjoyable to watch.
Surprised Larry got you on the pinch block! I wonder if the pinch block was a little smaller where you could get your fingers all the way down, would it have been a closer match? 🤔
Fun stuff…. What I always find fascinating about rock climbers is how strong they are with pretty small muscles usually. Magnus is fairly ripped though.
Wow. Just wow. What a pair a beasts and amazing, friendly, respectful people we have here...
But even if Magnus was a bit behind, props to him..
I want those guys the mext time I move out... They're gonna carry my piano with one hand each.. Incredible. Just incredible
He's 155??!?!!!!!!?
Holy baby Jesus, what a beast
Considering Larry’s strength, it just shows how strong Magus is for his size 🤯
Larry is a great guy, seriously. Never seen someone with that kinda muscle laughing all the way through.
Often when someone like him pumps himself up to give just a bit more, they pull their face into a really angry look.
But this guy, just laughing.
Btw, he looks a bit like the Rock, doesn't he?
but in this case with serious muscle power
Every guest on your channel has been super cool. Really genuine people. Love your channel man
Larry is so cool. Every time he surprised me I just went “Holy crap” or something out loud. Did that like 10 times throughout the video 😂
Larry and magnus, two humble studs. Nice job. Love the great smooth mental focus and conversation
Helt vilt bra videoer den siste tiden. Så kult at du får me deg så mange andre kjente idrettsutøvere og influensere. Killing it!
Is Larry off cycles for good now? I hope so, we need him around for as long as possible.
Larry is very personable and has a lot of strength but I love Magnus his strength as a climber, crazy!
Larry is my favourite natural, vegan bodybuilder 💪
If the weight was calculated using a body weight percentage Magnus would seem super human. Great work from both.
