How on earth do you choose a front line with Haaland, Alvarez, Grealish, Mahrez, and Foden all vying for time? What a team

    • Juan Emanuel almonte
Juan Emanuel almonte 2 months ago +107

That’s what makes the attack so good cause they can rotate and have tons of options without losing quality but Haaland mahrez and then grealish since Foden is injured now foden and Alvarez are both really good and should come on as subs but u can swap foden with grealish

    • Markus W
      Markus W 2 months ago +52

Foden out now for the season. Not good. Might create an opening for Alvarez and a changed formation.

@Stan Smith not inconsistency as much as there are other players that overshadow each other. Jack can have a great game like this then foden next game gets all the praise. They just gave too many players that can shine so bright at anytime it’s hard dir one specific player to outshine the others every game.

Haaland is maybe the best pure goal scorer in the world, but alvarez is pure class as well - there’s a reason he was starting for argentina. Honestly hope pep can find a way to play both because it is a shame for alvarez to sit on the bench.

This is why I think City definitely deserves their respect, they have been at the top for consecutive years & continue to do so. the rest of the teams come & go. Liverpool is a perfect example of this. A few seasons ago this same team was dominating along with City & having a great rivalry, won the UCL, The league & now they cant even get to the top 5. And this has been happening every year with Chelsea, Tottenham, United & now arsenal. I wouldn't even be surprise if Arsenal start playing like sht next season. Yet, City continue to do it season after season. and people can't even use the "It's cause they have money/oil team" anymore. Chelsea & united proved it has nothing to do with money otherwise they would have been the ones in this position, not City.

I was critical of Grealish when he first joined the team, and there are still moments where he sort of "falls back" (or forward lol), but he's making steady contributions now and it's good to see him get on the scoreboard for his efforts.

This is exactly why City is successful, it truly is their midfield. They have a phenomenal midfield, reminiscent of the Barca days with Xavi and Iniesta… which who was the coach then? Despite my dislike of Pep, he knows what truly important on the pitch. If you don’t have a strong midfield, then it’s hard to win.

Alvarez is really good with link up play. He definitely received some bad passes in transition and kept control and posession to keep the flow of the attack. The passing can speak for itself. He is really reliable and a good alternative to switch between haaland depending on the situation.

Yep, for months now I’ve admired Arsenal and Man City’s play. But I’ve also felt Man City to be the better of the two simply because of their team play. Haaland wouldn’t have as many goals as he does if it weren’t for it. If Man City doesn’t come out on top then something will have to have gone drastically wrong between now and then.

No Haaland, No Problem. This was the vintage free-floating City we've been missing. It sounds insane, but Haaland's hattricks are coming at the expense of City's dominant playstyle. Alvarez fits the mold better than Haaland. Even when Mo Salah scored, you just knew that they weren't going to be denied. Arsenal better win all their games or they're in for a historic heartbreak.

John Stones man, what a display in the mid. He made seasoned midfielders look like crap.
Edit: if this form continues, City can win every PL game going forward. But I still feel Arsenal are comfortable at top.

Liverpools goal was a nice one, but they were outclassed the rest of the game. But just look at what surrounds Haaland or in this case Alvarez, 5 creators of chances who are just as lethal on their own if given an inch of space.

Not a City fan, but gotta appreciate the quality play. Liverpool... Jeckyl and Hyde. Either good or bad, no in-between.

This Liverpool team is finished. No defense or midfield. Virgil is just a shell they all are but he has fallen big time. Trent what happend to him is beyond comprehension. Klopp can't reach them anymore there too old and broken down.

@DJWerkz lol yeah bc Liverpool fans totally weren’t acting like beating Man U was akin to winning the Champion’s League. Fergie got Liverpool and their fans perpetually stuck in a small time mentality and it shows.

You see the difference between haaland and the others, look how the guy celebrate, and he is not even on the bench . The dude has so much passion and winning grit. And for him to celebrate like that for Alvarez who is actually his substitute, it's good to see

Watch Van Dijk move his leg out of the way of the ball on the last goal. I know he's trying to avoid scoring an own goal or interfering with his keeper, but it just sums up their season. Everything going wrong at the worst times. (Except for the United game of course. 😂)

    • Wonderz_808
      Wonderz_808 2 months ago

They both fit nicely. But I think they need different play styles when one or the other is on the field. The city play style was beautiful today but you can’t deny when they get Haaland on the field even if it’s not their best gameplay they are scoring many goals.

  • Julian

How Van dijk got toty/tott/etc is beyond me. The first city goal: both “world class” Liverpool CB’s got pulled out of position. Van dijk did a half hearted press on mahrez, just like he’s been playing half heartedly all season 😢

Way I see it, Haaland overall is the better striker. You want goals you want Haaland. But every game I've seen Alvarez play he's a much better fit for pep's fluid style. When Haaland is starting the team almost has to play a bit more unnaturally to accommodate and make him the focal point because he's a superstar, but with Alvarez, he's just one of the boys, and he plays at a very high level, slots in the team seamlessly and almost goes unnoticed until he puts the ball in the back of the net. It's going to be very interesting to see how Pep manages this dynamic.

Where are the Grealish haters who never wanted to give the man a chance? Grealish will be a very good player once he master how to take good shots like the one which Allison saved. I wish he practice a lot on that since that will increase his goals which is the only thing missing in his games. The assists have started coming so if he can add it with goals, he will become a complete package.
