I wouldn't really call Hamburg the "home" of the hamburger, it's only the namesake. In its modern form the hamburger is not a traditional german/hamburg dish, it's an american invention. We have similar dishes that probably served as the inspiration, brought to the US by immigrants that came with the Hamburg America Line. But the real origins are lost in time.
