Lukashenko: Russia may deploy long-range nukes in Belarus | DW News

  • Published on Mar 30, 2023 veröffentlicht
  • Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has warned the West that Russia may deploy long-range nuclear weapons in his country. He made the claim during his state of the nation address. Moscow has already announced plans to deploy short-range tactical nuclear warheads in Belarus, a decision the West has denounced. The deployment of longer-range strategic weapons in Belarus would mark a major escalation. Lukashenko also used his address to call for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine.

The man who offered his country's territory to be a launching pad for an aggressor intent on erasing another country from the map of the world now calls for an "unconditional cease-fire". That's rich.

If Russia deploys nuclear weapons in any country, it just makes that country a nuclear target in the event of a nuclear war, plus it does not help Russian strategic goals, it just costs them money.

    • Joseph Woehler II
Joseph Woehler II 2 months ago +4

@isata kabba Those countries cannot launch those weapons because those weapons are a defensive deterrent they invited in during the cold war. The expansive take over of many smaller countries by the Soviet Union created the situation that caused these weapon deployments at the request of those countries in NATO.

If they are long range missiles what is the difference if they are located in Belarus or in Russia?

    • M Savina
      M Savina 2 months ago +3

The only thing I can think of is Belarus may enter the war so if they have nukes, they can saber rattle so they don’t get attacked back. But they don’t get the big ones so they are less likely to be used against Russia in case Belarus turns on Russia. Also I heard these type of nukes are dropped from planes.

@M Savina Belarus will not operate the Russian ICBMs.
Just like the Warsaw Pact countries never could. The US nukes in Turkey can not be fired by Turkey .
Belarus just made itself a target in a nuclear war.

    • M Savina
      M Savina 2 months ago +1

      @John Smith
I don’t think Tactical nukes are ICBMs. Those are for taking out cities. Tactical nukes are battlefield nukes, besides it sounds like Putin is sending a team to deal with them, oversee them. From what I understand.

This makes no difference there are nukes in Kaliningrad in the centre of Europe and on European borders.... and calling for a ceasefire means Russia wants a ceasefire ..... Russia is in trouble in the War it needs to re-group, Ukraine knows this and will take the opportunity to continue the degradation of the Russian military

The difference between nukes in Kaliningrad vs Belarus is that Kaliningrad belongs to Russia, whereas Belarus "officially" is a separate country. Putin will instruct to fire nukes from Belarus, and if things go not his way, he will claim that it wasn't Russia that used nukes.

Most Belarusians do not want Lukashenko as their dictator. They also don't want Russian troops in their country. Even more Belarusians don't want nukes under Russian control stationed in Belarus, which would make their country a target. With Putin now so weak, perhaps it's a really good time to oust Lukashenko and the Russian troops supporting him. Doing so might also spark actions in other countries like Georgia, and in regions that want out of the Russian Federation.

Locochenko needs to understand his country will also be targeted. Also if these soldiers that were send to commit this genocide in Ukraine abandoned their tanks; what makes you think they will actually fire nuclear weapons knowing they’ll be targeted .

Lukashenko: Russia may deploy long-range nukes in Belarus. At this point in time Belarus functions like a russian colony.

This will fall back on him, as, if they really station nuclear weapons in Belarus, there is quite a risk the people will raise against it, as they know exactly what it means. So the whole story could end in a upraise and then what, a military intervention of Russia?
What we see and hear the last couple of days is what i would expect from someone with his back on the wall knowing his time is ticking away.

Lukashenko must have been pushed into a corner by P. Lukashenko doesn't want to be dragged into this war, but he doesn't have a choice. That's why he keeps calling for peace/ceasefire. He is pleading to Ukraine for help. Belarus is forced to enter the war very soon. I give it 3 months from now.

What am I missing? I do not see a lot of advantage for Russia deploying NUKEs in Belarus. The only change i see is that Belarus will now be targeted in case NUKEs do fly at some point in the future.

Western Countries: place nuke at EU, imply tons of sanctions on Belarus despite they're not attacking Ukraine.
    Belarus: hey brother Russia...
    Russia: Your backyard ready yet?

And I’ll share with you guys - going off script - I’ll share with you guys: So, the President and I were there at the White House for the day of the - of the - that he announced his nomination, and many of you may have watched it on television. And so we were in the back before we went out. And before we walked out, I just looked at our President and I said, “You’re again making history. You’re again making history.” Think about that.
You know, when we - when we look at the job we have in the coming months, and people will look at all of us as leaders and they’ll say, “Well, why should I vote? Why does it matter?” There’s so much we have to talk about. We have collectively, on many levels, achieved historic feats. And let’s be proud of that - knowing, of course, that there is still more to do. Let’s be proud of that. Be proud of that. (Applause.)

    INTELLIGENCE DND:
Chancellor, the name for the Doctrine we have been using last months, has been signaled and developed.
Dynamic Nuclear Doctrine; from now on known as DND when discussing it in public.
“Presidents will say, that messages have been drafted to our opponent, in accordance with the DND”
Nullifying Belarus and creating the deepest crater Earth has ever seen in Putins bunkers, is what the doctrine describes this time.

We should stop the sanctions to Belarus. Belarus has never taken part so far actively in the war. Secondly in a country that relies completely on importantions like belarus, removing the sanctions would get belarus close to europe and far from russia
