As a United fan who watches plenty of the youth games on MUTV, I'm excited by the potential of Kobbie Mainoo. He looks the kind of all round CM, with a good mix of technical and physical attributes, that we've struggled to buy let alone produce.
I also love watching Hannibal Mejbri and Alejandro Garnacho in the U18's / 23's. But, of those in the squad for this tournament, Mainoo really stands out.
I might be stupid but ive been wondering about this for some time, is the man u team an mls next team or are they ACTUALLY the academy from england?
This was the actual Man United academy, just participating in a global cup competition involving youth teams of MLS clubs and youth teams from major clubs from Europe, South America, etc.
The United squad was mostly made up of the current U16 and U18 players. So some of those players went on to win the FA Youth Cup (for U18 players) a month later.
@Issac Ortiz They are the actual team from England. All GA cup teams are legit, even the international ones
@Gusto🥇 dang so some mls next teams are actually decent
@Issac Ortiz It could be better if the abolish the pay to play system for acedemy players in MLS teams. Imagine all the talented kids who miss out on football cause they can't afford it
As someone who never watched youth soccer, the GA cup is amazing
mainoo is gonna be something else in future what a talent
U17 are more exciting to watch than the first team
Good game youngsters 💯
Berry and Parker are both very highly regarded from the younger age groups.
Is it just me or are the Manchester United players like two feet taller than all of the Minnesota players.
The biggest, tallest, and fastest American athletes tend to gravitate towards the NFL, MLB, and NBA. Not so in England.
That is what pay to play does
@Fleshware not true. In England Rugby takes a lot of the bigger kids in England the USA isn’t the only place with multiple sports
@Delboy0 what?😂
@Delboy0 Football is the number 1 sport in England by a big margin
Unlike American there are 3 major sports
mainoo is elite for his age
The United players seem much more imposing in terms of size.
@adrian Minnesota was younger
Juan Lozano that doesn’t really make sense lol. You are acting as if people who’d go into basketball would be good at Football if they tried it.
Juan Lozano America is the only sport in the uk Americans think they are the only people who have multiple sports. In England bigger kids play soccer
1st goal didn't look offside. Where is VAR when you need it. lol
Totally was
My boy there Ethan williams
Man United Number 8? Best In The World!
Those Man U players are hella tall compared to Minnesota United.
English academies care more about size compared to mls academies
Minnesota were 2006s , one year younger than Man U
It certainly used to be the case that, sadly, British academies prioritised height and strength above small, skilful players.
That's changed a lot at the top level in the last 20 years or so with a lot more foreign coaches, and youngsters joining from all over the world, bringing more focus on the technical side of the game.
I watch a lot of United youth games and we do have a lot of smaller / quick / skilful attacking players throughout the age groups. But this particular mix of players does seem to possess a decent amount of height and strength.
@Noah Smith sadly they do
@Justin Wu Mix of 05/06
Come one Ethan Williams
