Hats off to Vegas. Great statement game. No team in the East did it so well. They've handled Florida's physical play, mitigated their forecheck and display more skill. Well done!
Florida better win the next game or they are done.

@veritas ante omnia Florida certainly earned the right to be here. Taking out the NHL's number one team after being down 3-1 was no fluke. Vegas may want to keep that in mind.

Wow, Vegas looks unstoppable right now. This was total domination. What is going on in the Panther's locker room right now? Their strategy of out muscling the opposition is not going to work on the Knights.

@Marc-Antoine Marcoux Have to say I think Vegas is throwing a lot more high shots at Bob due to his tendency to drop to his knees. There's a lot of open space upstairs.

Literally this is how any of the games would’ve looked like if BOB didn’t play amazing, just shows you how far a hot goalie can take you in the playoffs

    • Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants
Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants 3 months ago +27

Team defense is generally far more important unless the goalie is giving up soft goals. The knights team defense has dominated every team they have played and they carry backup goalies to victory.
Hill would have given up at least 4 goals himself had he faced the shots Bob did. Flo allowing that many quality shots is just asking to lose. I think prime Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur and Dominik Hasek all would have given up at least 3 goals too.

    • John Doe
John Doe 3 months ago +35

@Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants I don't think he's insulting Bob, Bob's been amazing the last 2 games. The difference is that prior to these games Bob was god like in net, now he's just amazing. If you watched the canes and leafs series, those teams were skating circles around Florida, Bob was the only player who showed up every game.

    • Kaynen Ouch
Kaynen Ouch 3 months ago +6

@Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants team defense is important but team defense can only take you so far. A hot goalie can steal games and series and the occasional times a cup.
These goals that are going in now Bob saved against canes and leafs. Florida team defense looks the same as it did all playoffs just Bob isn't making the same saves. A HOT GOALIE also gets the whole team to step up in defending too.

    • bunsw
      bunsw 3 months ago +6

Not really. On the first they left Stone alone to screen Bob. On the second Bob's own defenseman screened him. On the third it was at close range so too little time to react plus it hit the post and barely went in. Can't get a much better shot then that. And on the fourth they left an NHL caliber forward come in alone and cross the net with speed. Florida played poorly. Bob let in at least one so so goal in a previous series yet everybody was so busy claiming he was the second coming that they didn't notice. The NHL has a history of teams that can let you spend time in their zone but not let you score because of the areas they won't let you have. Sure those teams had great goalies but who expects to win a cup with an average goalie? These people would be beside themselves if they saw Grant Fuhr or Bernie Parent play. And those guys were solid all the time. And I read somewhere here that Cary Price played bad in the finals a couple years ago. Really? I thought Montreal played bad. I didn't notice any change in Price's play. Can we try to be more accurate in our assessments? Everybody on here is more knowledgeable then me.

Go knights go! Can’t say enough at how proud I am of this team. Gotta keep playing like this though. Play like you’re down in the series and you guys can finish this off. You can do this guys! Also I really hope Eichel is ok. I know he came back and even got another assist but hockey players are tough. Sometimes they come back even through injury . I hope he can just be ok enough to finish this series . Come on hockey gods. Just a little more magic !

Panthers run reminds me of the Habs run in '21. Each with least points to make the playoffs. Each relying heavily on a hot goalie. Each back from down 3-1 in the first round. Each swept an opponent. Each clobbered in the finals against a team who had an even hotter goalie and are a much better overall team.

Florida's play so far has been undisciplined and embarrassing. There were times before the midway point of the game that I couldn't help think to myself, "Florida is totally outclassed." It's almost like taking cheap shots is all they have left. I am very, very surprised they have looked as poor as they have. It will be interesting to see if they can pull it together in FLA.

@Nic E that’s my point though. Florida with the Cinderella story, down 3-1 against the Bruins, coming all the way back and ripping through other top teams to get to the finals, and here we are with there being a real possibility of them getting swept. All that for nothing. And Vegas, who was expected to lose against both Edmonton and Dallas. Look at them now

    • Gamevet
      Gamevet 3 months ago +15

@Tamman I watched them put it to my Dallas Stars. Their ability to create scoring opportunities, with great puck movement, makes them a very dangerous team. It's almost like they can score at will, when it needs to happen.

    • Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants
Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants 3 months ago +1

@Tamman "And Vegas, who was expected to lose against both Edmonton and Dallas."
Vegas had more points than both of them and Edmonton's defense and goalie problems never end. This one Oiler fan was telling me before the playoffs how Skinner was going to carry them to victory.
Vegas is doing fantastic at team defense that they win with backup goalies. No Vegas goalie had losing record in reg season out of 5. Dallas could not solve the Vegas defense either.
That Vegas does it without a #1 goalie is really impressive. Thompson is hurt obviously.

This is prime hockey psychology. Florida's underdog role could only last so long. They sat in their uncanny success for 10 days and it got to them. Vegas, on the other hand, nearly got humbled by the Stars, but ended the series with a 6-0 shut out road win.
If Florida is lucky, the narrative of them actually being the 17th place regular season team will kick in again, and they can regain that edge. And obviously Bob needs to find that horseshoe again.

Nearly got humbled by the Stars? The Stars lost the series 4-2, same as the Oilers, except the Oilers blew the Knights away in their 2 wins. I’d say the Oilers put up the better fight. But in the end both teams lost. Knights are on fire, but you never know. Look what the Panthers did to Boston after being down 3-1 in the series.

Florida’s D was nonexistent, even before the game was over. And O was Tkachuck hitting everything that moves. There’s something terribly wrong in Maurice’s game plan. Why are they trying to beat Vegas in physicality only? You are a skill-based team.

    • benzema111
      benzema111 3 months ago

I agree with everything you said. I wrote something similar.
They give Vegas too much time with the puck. 3 or 4 goals today was made by 1 Vegas player against 3 or 4 Panthers.
How? Because Florida is defending so extremely tight that at least 3/4 of them are close to the guy with the puck. They then become hypnotized and are just closing angles, instead of using their physique.
It needs to reverse. Floridas D-men have to be more aggressive and their forwards needs to be more creative and cool.

  • Larry Copeland
Larry Copeland 3 months ago +2

Florida team defense looked pretty inept in this game. A lot of easy zone entries, drives to the net, point-blank chances for Vegas (credit to them, of course). Could Bob have made an extra big save or two to keep his team in the game? Yes, but it was far from all his fault.

Panthers reminding me of Habs in 2021. Fairytale underdog run through the playoffs, only to crumble in the final. Price was unstoppable like Bob was too. But hey the series ain't over til it's over... if we learned anything from the Boston series, Cats know how to make a comeback.

I Love The GOLDEN KNIGHTS _ The Vegas Strong Slogan is in big part due to the Knights getting to the Cup in their first year. After the tragic events of Oct 1 2017 The Knights were everywhere in the city, the charitable events sponsored by the team or any vigil or hospital visit members of the team showed up & they played their asses off for one reason to help the City recover from a devastating tragedy & collectively they became invested in the city in a purely altruistic way. the team embodied the idea of "Vegas Strong a City coming together"

Флорида идёт по пути Далласа. Нервы и грубая игра сыграют с ними злую шутку. Еще не все потеряно. Бобровский сделал, что мог. Защита провалена, нападающие бьют во вратаря. Надо контролировать эмоции.

    • Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants
Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants 3 months ago

The knights team defense carries "multiple" backup goalies to victory and you give the credit to Hill?
Hill got the Knights a playoff shutout and I think he faced only 2 quality shots for the entire game. The majority of NHL backups should have won that game easily facing those shots.
The knights had 5 goalies in the reg season and none of them had a losing record.
Had Hill played on the Sharks this season there would have been 99% chance he would have had a losing record because the Sharks team defense looks more like Florida in this game.
The Sharks had 4 goalies in the reg season and none of them had a winning record. Had all 4 played for the knights instead that would not have happened.

Nobody is winning the cup for their country when players on both teams are from the same country and some do not even care about it like that.

    • Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants
Dan Raiders Warriors Sharks Giants 3 months ago

@Rondy It is silly logic when the players are not playing for their country. Even the American players playing for American teams are not playing on team USA hockey right now.
Without the players on your team from the other countries being on the team you do not win the cup.
Sure a team could win the cup with 100% of the players from one country but it still would never be the same as country vs country because the other teams would still have players from your country on them.
