Look man, once the crafting table is placed next to the furnace, it’s the perfect home
@JakesVR that’s cool I like that!
Every starter base ever……E v e r
Nah, crafting table and furnace next to a bed
@Upgraded in a dirt house LMAO
"Don't defy the laws of physics" Grian says as he casually walks on thin air.
@yt channel did you just miss the joke entirely or do you use Twitter. C'mon its gotta be one of the two
He is flying to make it easer, faster and better to showcase the things
@Trla thats offenceive to the people who like doing it that way
This is what's great about Grian. He doesn't give a block by block tutorial. He teaches you how to build. Inspires you to go on and build your own creations. Shows you methods to use, not builds to duplicate. Exactly what we need to learn.
Yes that’s what I like about him.
like an English teacher instead of grammarly or a math teacher instead of a calculator
I agree. Too bad almost every video he makes now is just Hermitcraft instead of tutorials and guides for building...
Agree 100%, love most minecraft builders, quite a good ASMR, but most of them simply say 'just do what I do'. Like no, I want someone who'll sit down and have a 30 min video essay about what works and what doesn't. So glad I found Grian!
“And he decorated it, very Minimalisticly”Me: right. MINIMALISTICLY.
@Bugsnax Gamer07 use more slabs and stairs is all i can tell you
I’m still building box houses... in creative... I don’t understand how people build like that
very VERY minimalistically
I know this video is 6 years old, but as someone who just discovers the international Minecraft community, I just have to say:This video is of amazing quality! It is absolutly clear why you are as successful as you are, putting that much effort, into such a simple video! Respect!
@Milas Sayin I guess it’s because it’s an old video and a new comment
Why do you have 61 likes and 1 comment.
"He detailed it very minimalisticly"*shows house more detailed than any I've ever built*
Yet there's me who needs a tutorial on how to build a dirt hut.
It looks more complicated than it is bc of the varied block choice
@I'm A Potato it is possiblebut I don't want to say that you are doubting anything where you think you can't reach
@Bali Raynor that’s why I build my houses in creative and then go into survival
@Avery Games he literally makes videos on how to do the exact things he did. It all becomes second nature when you put in effort and make it a habit. It's not that hard.
This really helped because I am not a experienced builder in Minecraft I’m not that good of a builder in general but I am trying to improve so this helped me a lot.
The dude has a point though. Yes, there is some somewhat harsh bits, but really, I agree. It would be nicer like that. This is my own opinion and you all are fully entitled to yours.
This video is just solid architectural and landscaping advice. Much of it are things that should be applied to real world projects
But great detailing I love how you'r trying to help out the amazing Minecraft community I love you'r tips and I'm between pro and noob at building this vidro helps out a lot but if u could be just a little less critical then I can watch more of you'r videos and I already subscribe so keep up the great work you'r doing awesome and I hope you just hear out my suggestions cuz most of those builds COULD actually also be from 5 - 9 year old kids that are new to the game
Me think the over detail is coolGrian: to some it’s a hard to look atMy eyes: 💀
Grian is literally gordon ramsay but in minecraft and without swearing
And without screaming
sad that this omits the final rule: "break the rules if you know what you're doing". a part of my build style has square buildings with overdetailed interiors, but that works for me as my style focuses on tiny, detailed builds
That's an unspoken rule
I remember thinking those emerald diamond houses looked good and now that I look back they look like toothpaste.
it'd be fun to make a house that commits each violation he mentioned simultaneously
Making anything is gonna make him mad. Unless you wanna spend 5 hours he will be happy. Just not too long
@Draconic Duelist MORE DIAMONDS!
@Luke alias 1uk3 3*3*2
If you would watch Mumbo Jumbo's "anti-Grian" build video, you can see that he has beaten you in that idea.
Over details by also adding some emerald blocks on top add alot of more dimaondd and more crap
The "defying the laws of physics" thing is a thing in modern architecture. It's called a "cantilever" where the frame extends into the building and the weight of the rest of the building keeps it in place. But yes, a cantilever that big does look odd.
Me: *breathes*Grian: "oh no no no you're doing it wrong."
8:53 i do these, but instead of making the room float I put fences to make it look like the fences are holding the room
Grian: _”Do not make box houses.”_Noobs: that’s all I can do
Heh that’s funny 😆
overdetailing is fine for cave things, their kind of messy.but regular houses?not so much
Over detailing looks good if you have an old shack looking house with a lot of different types of wood.
About the over detailing, I think it really looks more intimidating than good looking. I would say that a base meant to keep away foes should be overdetailed.
Just a quick note about roof overhangs: Skeletons and Zombies can hide under the roof or frame when the night ends to avoid burning. Just something to keep in mind for survival players
Minecraft: here’s a game that’s in your complete control, no rules just be happy. Grian: there’s rules, follow.
**1.19 chat reporting intensifies**
Aiden Joubert this is more to follow some "design rules" that look better than a simple box, but if you like it well then there you go
There is no rules to Minecraft but when designing a house there's always been rules for that
Lord scott of the Rios it’s not really like that, it’s more like, hey! If you want to build well, watch my videos?
Pansycacke BUT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO BUILD HOW YOU LIKE!!!! IS IT THAT HARD TO UNDERSTAND
If you want to overdetail i would recommend making it very clean otherwise on the roof and other less detailed areas.
I remember making a large wooden hotel that has no details at all in a ripoff game of Minecraft. It was on one of the public servers, but after my mom's tablet broke I never could download the app againI was so super proud of it, so I hope that whomever owns it after me takes good care of 'The Wooden Hotel by OneOddKid' (my naming skills have always been bad lmao)
thank you, i used to struggle with overdetailing alot and not figuring out why my builds looks messy, after seeing this video, my builds improved a ton
This video was so much help after watching it I built two houses that almost look the same as Grians :)
Grian: “Don’t defy physics.”Says while flying
@Aviation Gamer I don’t feel like explaining, but I can
@Aviation Gamer lol
Honestly Grian should still make these types of building videos (along with the others of course)
Hey Grian! I just wanted to say that its been years since this was posted and I have noticed that since this video came out, it seems that building in general has gotten much better! Thank you being such a positive impact on the community!
Grian's videos like this inspire me. Thank you Grian
I like these building videos Grian, thank you so much I took your advice to make a pretty and decent house on a superflat world.
I present to you, minecraft Gordon Ramsey.
@Clay Platt grian* ITS STIL VERY FUNI THO
Man, old Grian videos are a vibe. This is my childhood, right here.
Honestly, I haven't streamed in a while but I have been practicing building, especially in the SMP I'm in... I feel like I've gotten away from most of these mistakes. My biggest one is the very boxy-shaped builds. Other than that comparing my recent builds to my very first build... me being a noob used brick wall blacks... for the walls.
IMO both of the overdetailing examples look awful, the roofs really make me nuts as roofs are suppose to be symmetrical, lopsided roofs look wrong, and irl would collapse.
wow, i never realised there are so many builders out there with the same mindset as i have. i always feel like the inside is perfect, but the outside SUCKS, and this video really helps. even though i know all this its great to touch up and see how it's done.
And that’s why my first house was a hobbit hole.A BEAUTIFUL HOBBIT HOLE
Me: (Digs a hole in a mountain and calls it home.)Grian: *So you have chosen, Death.*
I used to have a hobbit hole in Minecraft Bedrock. I was really proud of it. It had a river leading to the open ocean, villagers that were zombified and cured, a carpet, 3 dogs, a cat and even had a farm tower. All of this was surrounded by a wall and was perfectly lit. Unfortunately due to the update, the world got corrupted. Now I'm sad.
That sucks grains house better :D
JOKES ON YOU GRIAN HAS A HOBBIT HOLE TOO- i-in hermitcraft- the older seasons- bu-but that one was detai-led.. nevermind
well, I'm not sure about that. personally, I've found that digging a hole into the side of a mountain can work out quite well. especially if you detail the outside with a overhang.
i put a bed on a mountain and called it home
When it comes to my building palette, i mostly use wood and cobblestone type and i make a simple staircase roof
Here’s my process:Step 1: Acquire map of spawn.Step 2: Raze block within map chunk above river/sea level.Step 3: Place torch in NW corner and place torches in a 5x5 pattern across chunk.Step 4: Create dirt path along perimeter and through the middle, separating the 4 quadrants.Step 5: Place foundation in the crossroads in a 9x9.Here’s my problem:I want my house to be omni-symmetrical. I want the shape to be the same shape from the 4 corners.I’m willing to unbox the 9x9 in the 4 directions and rounding the corners. But when I start to build up, I find issues. My base pallet is Stone brick 🧱 and the 3 polished stones (1 for each direction). Can you help me?It’s turning into a 3-story tower. My warehouse will be in the basement, bed on the 2nd floor, and enchanting in the 3rd. Maybe the 1st will be a workshop?
I have to ask on your opinion:When I make the roof, sometimes I put stairs all-around the top in a pyramid pattern. I also clear out the excess blocks in the ceiling for space. Is that ok?
I do that too when I make ground level mansions. Just make it a varying shape, that way it's still the pyramid roof but not really a pyramid roof iyk yk
Is it ok for you? I do that too and it's fine
@William Thompson yep
Personally, I would say no, as you don't quite get the right border with that style. I would just do the classic roof, a plus- shaped roof (peaks on all four sides), or if you're up to the challenge (not to be insulting), you could try one of those "deflated cone" roofs that you commonly see on fantasy towers. Was this helpful?
This was supposed to inspire me to build something great...But now i feel bad because all my houses are garbage compared to the stuff this man builds
"It's not that hard to do"*accidentally makes a mansion*
chicken nuggets pwease?
I love mcdonald :)
The thing I struggle with the most are circular roofs for example I want to build a cool wizard tower with a circular roof and I mostly fail.... I try to make it taller with some normal sized blocks but then it feels too tall and then I panic I don't know what to do and then I just ,,go for a break" and by that I mean never finishing it and move to a new build................... and I also don't know how to decorate big house walls.....................
First sin is perfect for horror maps. (for example, when you want to create a long corridor in an abandoned ruins.)
Thanks. I needed to know this stuff, I was messing up at bad and didn't even realize why. This will be a great help for my building
5:37 I like basic trees becouse they let me make my builds blend into the rest of the world
grian: “it’s not that difficult”me: *sweats profusely trying to stop myself from making a shoe box house*
1randomshape 2frame 3 interior 4outside detailing 5 roof 6 extra ddetials
@Bedrock Player im am not bad at building and this video did not do anything to the way i build
I’m sure this is accurate to tons of people who watch these videos
i still haven't started framing but i do change the shape lmao
Wow you are so bad at building
I chose the practical way:Build 3 blocks tall cube so you have everything at one place to save time and in case of lack of space just build another same floor since you have a lot of already used space around your base.
All my builds I have ever made myself(yet)have all of the above mistakes(except overdetailing) I should get an award
the way I look at building in Minecraft is there is no mistakes its all imagination and creativity if you like the way it looks keep it like that.
4:28If they were put in the same town I would personally be pretty suspicious that two houses have an identical style
I think your definition of minimalistic is very different from mine.
I like building with dirt, it can be mined my hand and if you build correctly you can grow grass on each floor and have green carpeting and balcony's with green on them, then throw in vines and 2 thick floors with 1 block of water and you have a vine and whatever you want farm and house all in one, use sand to make walls around the house so if a creeper blows them up, the wall will close the hole automatically. My house is usually symmetrical and square on purpose as it makes setting up red stone circuits easier. :)
@goreflux The perfect home, comrade!
@goreflux Perfection. 😂👌
Glad that someone pointed this out
Hey Grian, I absolutely love your videos and they really do help, but I have a slight time consuming problem. I am trying to make a Fantasy world in creative but by doing so I am manually replacing all grass blocks with Warped Hyphne ( or how ever you spell that). I was wondering if you knew of an easier much faster and efficient way of doing so?
I do make some mistakes in building, and they are stated in here, including straight up rectangular and perfect square houses, I'll put this to note and improve my building with these tips, thanks!!!
You taught me everything I need to know about building in Minecraft
I’ve been proudly building square roofed houses for seven + years now I’m now working as a contractor in a village 😎
“This house has very little detail.”House: has more detail than I’ve ever put into all my builds combined
That's me right now. Not everyone is a god of building, you know..
That’s exactly what I thought
@Amity oh Cramity That’s good! Don’t be discouraged just because your details aren’t as heavy as other people’s. You are good enough
and I'm here thinking I'm branching out by adding lanterns and flowers 💀💀
Grian literally roasted the most detailed house ever 😂. Love the comments, also amazing videos!!!
When you make a two block pallette house with a basic roof, simple details, and a slight amount of depth, but it's still a rectangle.
But I always add nice details at my houses. Like a slanted roof, good color and stuff like that.
I was on my friends server last week and their base was an *abomination*Now before anyone says: can’t be that bad right? IT WAS THAT BADIt was literally everything listed in this video but worse. There were random plank…cubes? A lava pool that started setting wood builds on fire. God it was hell.Ty for this video Grian I know I’m 6 years behind but we’re not going to talk about that ;)
Grian: he detailed it very minimalisticly Me: ಠ_ಠ
Yeah it looks better than my real life house
How do u do that face?
I'm guilty of doing the box house lolBut I already changed my house similar to villager houses, only that it's made of stone bricks and quartz...coz I burned the box house when I placed my cobblestone generator near it 🤦🏻♀️
“Don’t defy the laws of physics” Grian says while he’s floating on air hahahaha
They tried to prove a point but he still made a masterpiece out of that rectangle, I love this channel but I miss the days before Hermit Craft took overEdit: Just rethought about this and I want you guys to know that I mean no hate by this comment, this is and will always be my favorite MC channep
6 years later and I'm still waiting on a do's and don't of building in a mountain
How to build a house:Step one: find a hole in a mountainStep two: decorate holeThere is no step three
@I stole your liver while youre reading my username the villager house is fricking small
@Law Norris ok? :|
@MCopulos No here's a _WAAAAAAAAY_ better ideaStep 1: Find a villageStep 2: Find a houseStep 3: Massacre all the VillagersThere is no Step 4
Step one : Dig 3 downStep 2 : Put anything up on Ur blockThere is no step 3
@UC_0wqN6setOUdPhXwBWfP0Q don't forget the 1000000 furnaces on the wall too
"Mom, can we have Texas?""No, we have Texas at home"Texas at home: 2:48
It’s very hard to find a beautiful house build that’s efficient.
Grian you’ve helped me learn how to build roofs thanxs
oh yes oh yes.a bit of story here...i specialized myself in research facilitys, industrial and operational controlrooms with the needed thech behind it. all of that with an overly fair need for realism.now.i have seen. so. damn. many bunkers and researchfacilitys, which are-completely build from 1 block. and it always was iron for some reason i dont understand.(i do to an extend, but..come on. no)-overdetailed like...nobody builds an A-war bunker like it is part of some art project. just stay industrial.-not fitting the topic. --->wrong palett-non necessary details nobody would ever do in rl. like...who. is building the "reactor" with a _meltdownfunction_ ? if you realy want such a thing, bild a simulator. its possible and it makes way more fun than just..."oh, i deactivated the coolant. now it gets hot and detonates" N O O O. cease.-secret tunnels and entrances. no description needed (exept it fits with the topic..then its fine)and im every day just like...the only person who knows how to build proper bunker systems.why is this a thing in 2021? with architects who have at least like over 15 years build experience.anyway. have a nice time people, it was indeed a nice video there :3see ya
Me: wow my house is beautifulGrian: Its a square, you didn't add detailMe: Finally i added detailGrian: You over detailed
Me: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHaving a mental breakdown
@Peely and i just Added my *ASS*
Grian, you helped me a lot! Thank you so much!
I feel soo grateful about how sensitive I am with water flow after watching this vid.. like literally, 1 block of flowing water and I tried hard as hell to fix it
I remember myself 3 years ago playing a craftsman game and making a house with diamonds. Aahhhh the pain!!!!!! I wish i could go back to this world and literally blow up the house and make a new one.
Well I have always used to like build rectangular or square houses and I have got to say when I tried tieferen shapes they looked much better.
I'm going to make a house that does everything that Grian tells me not to do.
LTN with a pure emerald, square tower:
Mumbo jumbo did that already :/
@A Man he has to overdeatail it so no
A roofless square overdetailed in one block type that is the wrong type. I'm here for that
how are you gonna make an overdetailed shoebox house
Great helpful video but I can’t stand those weird lumpy roofs loads of builders make where they put random blocks and slabs throughout the roof. It doesn’t look good and it just really bothers me
0:45Grian: *this house is made out of completely one block*Door: *am I a joke to you?*
Basically don't build however you want to build. Grian is god and he gets the final say on all of your structures.
Grian: doesn't like houses where you hit your head whenever you jump.Joel's megabase: reaches build limit.
Don’t make fun of us Middle-Class Mountain hole people.
@Aarushi Sunil the problem with that is dying and having your spawn point reset because you broke your bed
Or nomads for that matter
I am the upper-class apartment guy
I actually think that the over detailing looks great
The way for a tree house without that stuff is… to make a square of saplings
I usually "under-detail" because I have no builder instincts; I use the fill command whenever I build to speed it up.
U have come a long way from this I love this old videos and the hardcore series
*_Imagine building a house, this post was made by mountain hole gang_*
we are mountain hole gang we make houses with mountain holes
Yes. But I have seen mountain holes that go out a bit to look like a house
Imagine having to dig that muchThis post was made by stealing villager houses gang
5:07 Am I the only one who still thinks the rectangular house is the same quality as the weird shaped one if not better.
Thanks, this really helped a lot 😀
I built a nice little bridge (modded) but it has a variety not over detailed I think it is nice and I think you would like it too.
This video is easy to understand the most important thing are the shapes roofs and frame works and also building a noob base and transforming it that is the easy way I found it myself.
"Alternate title: Roasting your Minecraft Houses"
*_bery epic *_
or just live in a village xD
This realy helped i now can build much better keep up the good work
I forced my sister to watch this to improve her building skills lol
I feel like this was a list of how I built, thx Grian for the help!
i must say the second house that he built in that example to show that rectangles suck looks a lot like a modified version of the Mystery Shack
Grian: "It's so easy to avoid overdetailing, just don't overdetail it."Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passes
There was this one time when I was like 12 where a situation arose (I don’t remember what it was) but I said “the quicker the faster”…Like the quicker you get something done, the faster you get something done. I was dead serious when I said it, but it sounds so dumb looking back😂 I feel like this radiates the same energy as this comment😂😂
I don’t get it
We can stop this
In China, they hide submarines in the water
I cant even make a barely detailed house and hes saying dont over detail
6:18 I like how grian has resistance to resist not losing it
