its not a decade. twitch is on "keep alive with as little effort as possible mode" for years now. sooner or later that little effort will not be enough, youtube is already better with most functions and people need a little push to move over.

I left twitch a couple years ago because of things they were doing way back then. Somehow they just... keep doing dumb shit. I'm glad tho. Twitch was taking up all my time and holding me back. Moving to youtube changed my whole life and I actually have a career in content now.

@evilbabaroga basically it'll disable all bots (no more automod = mods have to manually trash) and make you unable to access reddit via 3rd party apps (like apollo) and disable all addons (like 3rd party captions and text to speeches)
TLDR more spam, blind people won't be able to use reddit at all, and you can't use any 3rd party apps that are just way better than reddit.
unless those 3rd party app devs come up with *20 million dollars* a year to keep their 3rd party access (they won't)

We need a lot more of this in all dealings with any brand or corporation: prove to them that if they are screwing you over, you WON'T simply put up with it, and that if other choices are available, that it's their loss if you leave them. It doesn't matter if you're just some rando that's a drop in the bucket to them, each individual who just puts up or shuts up is one more reason for them to not improve, unless he looks out for himself and stops being used. The more people we get like this, the more likely we are to see positive changes for once.

The medical restrictions are a bit ridiculous. Things like 'Keeps' comes to mind. I can understand not allowing snake oil salesmen, but some of these products actually work. Twitch not only wants a piece of the pie, but they also want to make affiliates/partners desperate enough to follow their ad scheme. They really are trying to milk the platform for all its worth, and I guess that they have a right to do so. I just hope competitors gain more traction and viability to make Twitch a thing of the past.

    • Jadedplover
      Jadedplover 3 months ago +1

I think the medical one is because advertising prescription medicine is illegal in most places, and I think that's mainly because a lot of governments don't want to privatise the medical industry and end up with a situation like they have in the US where getting medicine to treat sicknesses actually ends up costing money from the people who are sick instead of the people who are sick getting paid money. And honestly I'd be scared of that too.

    • Jane Doe
      Jane Doe 2 months ago

      @Jadedploverou’re wayyyyyy off lmao
twitch doesn’t want to be held legally responsible for advertising something that the government already has a monopoly over and do not want to be involved in an industry that has a lot of lawsuits. literally no one gives a shit what it costs the consumers or what happens to them. and governments have a lot to gain from privatised industries, they benefit the government the most and why would twitch have anything to do with that anyway lmaooooooooooo

This seems to make ad reads impossible. On Clip-Share you can do ad reads with branding placement. But you cant(on Clip-Share) just run a burned in ad made by the company itself, as I understand it. But with Twitch's new rules, you can even do ad reads because most companies require you to have their branding on screen at some point. And for some a certain size on screen. So Twitch basically is taking away the creators ability to have sponsors that are ad reads.

People need to realize, other platforms are watching what eachother do. If certain policies don't negatively impact a platform, other platforms will weigh the pro's and cons of adopting a version of those policies. If a policy negatively impacts a platform, other platforms will shy away from the risk. People primarily have to ensure that bad policy turns into a big enough failure for Twitch in order for other platforms to not think of adopting it even if it means jumping platforms and taking your viewers and subs with you.

Twitch doesn’t even care at this point, Ludwig made the right choice moving to youtube.

    • 0 Falcon_Vortex 0
      0 Falcon_Vortex 0 3 months ago +1

@Matt Stashin Well at least Ludwig doesn’t have to deal with the twitch situation, not only just Ludwig, Fuslie left because of the DMCA Process situation which made her move to Clip-Share, and Valkyrae moved because of financial reasons for her mother, so those two dodged the bullet.

Just going to put this out there, I have been aware or @Asmongold, I don't live under a rock, and I think he's a humble and intelligent man that I have ben viewing a little more lately as of Diablo 4, and I think you have an opportunity to create a platform here, as for Twitch they are allowed to do as they please, I for one would never wish for them to feel they can't, they are a monopoly and they are choosing to utilize that in a way I don't agree with personally and obviously Asmongold does not, I'm going to click subscribe after this video, and I want to say if you make a platform id watch

The political thing makes sense since you have to offer paid political advertising slots to all eligible candidates, and Twitch can't make sure their content creators are doing that. Twitch also isn't a platform at this point, they are a publisher, making them potentially liable for creator content. So that makes sense. The easiest thing for Twitch to do in order to not get into legal trouble here is literally just to give creators more freedom, that way they are individually liable for the content and baked in ads they provide.
