With the colour I would keep it what it is just now. That car has one hell of a story and should keep it the same way. Love this series so much. One of my favourite cars and seeing the engineering behind it all is great. Mad how in contact it is after what it was in. Cant wait to see it done.

As someone who crashed their 350z into a pond, and got it out, it took me 3 months to fully clean every inch of the car, and replace and fix everything I needed to in the interior, I seriously respect this guys commitment to restoring this P1. I was lucky because no water actually got into my engine, and now my car has made a full recovery, but just fixing the interior and everything underneath the car was a big project. water in cars really sucks

You'd be shocked how friendly most truly high end dealers are. Far less snobby than your typical BMW or Audi dealer. I spoke to one of the salesmen at Ferrari in La Jolla for probably an hour. Steve Keate 3 months ago +11

I was impressed that the tech thought it was worth repairing, and that he humoured us all by providing a quote to repair it while knowing that it would never be repaired by McLaren.
They seem very willing to work with their customers to repair their cars if that's what the customer wants. Case in point, Rowan Atkinson's crash and fire damaged F1, the factory pulled out the original moulds and recreated carbon pieces that were out of production to get it back on the road.
Yes, it's a very special car, but they could have just said "no, it's a write-off, we haven't made those cars for years".

You should get a nice red or orange finish on your P1, this would make it look like a Phoenix. I also think a nice red colour would be great too since it would make a contrast between the your other Mclaren and the P1, they’d look absolutely sick together, sorta like Mario and Sonic.

We all knew that it would be 1-1.2 mil in total. In essence, he can sort it and bring it back from the grave and it'll be worth about that he has spent on it. That said, yes, there are firms that will do factory spec panels and carbon fiber for less, as a part of that markup is converting pounds to dollars and shipping (versus firms in the U.S. that make similar hypercars and F1 machines). I'd honestly just maybe DO carbon fiber versus paint.

Thank you for doing what you do. after watching 5 minutes of this, I learned that anything delicate and fragile is supposed to be treated with the greatest care. The McLaren P1 here unfortunately suffered a brutal beating. And now I think that even if you restore it back to "factory or even better" condition, it won't be the same at all. This awesome machine was crafted with surgical precision. Its not easy to recreate or even fix something like this without the proper tools.

Id like to see the Mclaren price for parts shared with the cheaper cars. (Like the front subframe supposedly shared with the 12c). Just to see how scammy Mclaren is with their price gouging😂🤔 Im sure there's quite a bit of shared parts that you wouldnt expect. The engine block, possibly suspension parts, etc. And if need be, you could almost certainly use 720/765lt/senna parts in certain instances, like for the brakes (if you didnt mind 'just' having carbon ceramics) etc

This is the best thing on Clip-Share. Big congrats to McLaren for getting involved and to Freddy for putting those parts prices in context. I wish you well - this is insane and amazing in equal measure!

Credit where credit is due to McLaren. I loved Freddie's comment about how Ferrari would probably sue him if he tried doing this to a LaFerrari. It's funny cuz it's true.

    • Miroslav Milan
Miroslav Milan 3 months ago +2

Yeah, all the best to Freddie, but he should bloody speed up this project, and frequency of new videos. Last one was 3 weeks ago and the car was basically in the same condition, all they have done to it since was remove the windshield and clean the interior a bit. And get a pointless repair quote they’re not going to use (yeah, they might use the parts list, but it’s still mostly just body parts, which they plan on repairing rather than replacing). They should have had the turbos and engine parts disassembled by this point, to get a better estimate on most important (and difficult to repair) mechanical parts. I know this is going to be a long project, but seriously, are they working on other cars on the side, or what’s taking so long? Every time a new video comes out I go back to check and make sure I haven’t missed any in between. I thought they were going to be really focused on this project, and post weekly videos with major progress updates, and a couple of lightly edited behind the scenes workshop videos on the second channel, for people interested to follow more in-depth. At this rate many people are going to lose interest and stop following the soap opera. It reminds me why I basically stopped watching this channel long time ago, and I was coming back with high hopes for an intense, interesting project. So far it’s been mostly just fiddling around and joking at how they have no clue what it’s even gonna take to repair this thing.
Sorry, I’m off my soapbox now. Just get the project rolling guys, best of luck.

  • Jakob
    Jakob 3 months ago +1

    Good luck with the project.
also reckon the price it was sold for was somewhat heavy at 600k for a flooded P1, as it was a 1.1 mio USD car retail in 2015, and it will carry that floodhistory for the rest of its era.. sure hype & demand elevated the price for P1's but this is still a flooded car where your locked to repair it cheap as officially simply aint valid and that wil also hurt its inner value.
but we all love people going out on a limp, and pursuing dreams and happy to see this project going viral.

Freddy and his team cannot get enough applaud for jumping into this project, but I have to say that McLaren deserves a major high five for them welcoming and helping you out. Even if it is just a little bit. I do believe there are plenty of up stuck brands out there who would just ignore you at best - Or even send you a cease and desist for even trying..

It's free publicity, there's no such thing as bad publicity, this actually remembers us how "good" and which public the brand is positioned/targeted to as well... so I think it's a win-win for both parties. Freddy gets his content, they get brand positioning.

I have loved this series from the start
    the main reason?
How many times will you ever see a P1 being taken apart like this?
No one would ever do this to their P1,and there is so many that exist..and the ones that get fixed go to the dealer to get fixed..
That is why I love this series on the P1 resurrection ! You are able to see the insides of the McLaren that are rarely ever exposed..and that is pretty freaking awesome!
I love how much carbon fiber is on the P1 model...like everything that could be made Carbon,is made with it..such attention to detail in every way with the design of this beautiful machine!

A friend of mine owns a P1. (He owns quite a few McLarens...) He had it bespoke specced by McLaren's "Special Operations" team. It's Blue with an orange trim. Although they probably have very special names for the very specific shades/tints.
    Looks incredible.
He was also the first customer to get the Senna.
The Senna is a complete monster, but I still prefer the look of the road going P1.

The appropriate way to remove the bonding from the windshield. The bottom is with a box cutter, razor blade inside of some sort is long stick that they make for that it would’ve been so much easier because right through the glue there’s always next time.
