    --------------------------------------------------------------------
On today's episode of Car Trek, AutoTempest challenged us to find three cheap exotics that are better than a new C8 Corvette. We bought a pimped-out Ferrari 360, Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, and a gated manual Lamborghini Gallardo that may have been underwater at some point in its life. Then we found out what's wrong with them. Oh boy...

I still can't get over how badly Ed and Freddy cheated!

    • Robert Coffey
      Robert Coffey 29 days ago

You already knew that Ed wouldn't show up to this kind of challenge in a car with a clean title, so that shouldn't have come as a surprise. And his car also came with a plethora of related problems, so it's still a pretty even playing field. The only benefit he got was that his car looks better from the outside.

I am so glad I stumbled upon this series! This is better then all the car shows on Velocity and you each have a great personality and presentation. I hope Autotempest makes a mint off this because I would really like to see this repeated again and again. The highlighting of these cars, the costs, the tips / warnings / and comedy are pure gold! Thank you for a great experience!

Cool to see top gear having paved the way for the dozens of youtuber challenges like this. even the way you guys rolled up with the cars you got was so reminiscent of the top gear cheap supercar challenge, banter and all. top notch.

It's always amazing to me how often we forget Occam's Razor. Even Tavarish, who certainly knows his way around a toolbox, did not immediately deduce the Gal was out of Gas. Not criticizing -- i've done it myself hundreds of times, not immediately going to the most obvious or probable explanation.

Even i think grand tour is cringy with even actual cast from old top gear, it's just feel like a student copying their friends homework and change it slightly so the teacher won't notice. This show is carrying those old tg spirit but have their own soul and appeal.

Amazing how engineers (especially exotics) to build a car around it’s most common faults making simple repairs multi hour operations.

    • Tk3997
      Tk3997 Year ago +3

      @Everything
Sort of, but EVs have the draw back of being able to fucking KILL YOU if you do something wrong. If the engine is off there's really very few ways to badly hurt yourself working on an ICE vehicle, but high voltage changes everything.

    • Everything
      Everything 2 years ago

@Tk3997 I think EVs significantly improve the maintenance requirements over ICE which have become bloated and incredibly complex in recent years

    • Tk3997
      Tk3997 2 years ago +8

This is becoming more and more common even on 'normal' cars unfortunately. They're chasing emissions instead of pure performance though. The result is basically the same though which is cram as much shit into as small a space as possible. Makes the car a better driver while it's working, but does nothing good for maintainability. Bonus points for more and more 'non-serviceable' components too which you can basically translate to "pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to replace an entire assembly isntead of the 15-30 dollar seal/bearing within in it that's actually defective".

Ed - Jeremy: The voice. He's owned, sold, and lived exotics for years. He has an insane amount of experience explaining the nuances that make a vehicle a driver's car. He can pull an simile out of his ass like the best of 'em.
Tavarish - James: The actual gear head. I think his garage knowledge on the next episode will be a perfect analogy to May's seemingly random spurts of airplane and mechanical facts.
Tyler - Richard: The wildcard. Has owned the worst so he can appreciate the best. He played by the rules and his secret genius has put him in hooptie after hooptie, only to land him in the best purchase... so far.
Excited to see where the series goes, gentlemen. Great job.

They should do a segment on repair/maintenance costs for these cars. Like the Range Rover models, there is a reason they depreciate so much. It can costs thousands for just a basic oil change - and way more than that for a clutch - or other normal parts that just wear out. You can easily spend $10k on a maintenance stop on a Lamborghini. When you spend the same cost on a Corvette, you get a new car with a warranty that will perform just as well, if not better, than most of these they are using as an example.

So excited to finally release this! It was truly the most fun I have ever had doing anything that could remotely be considered "work" and it was an honor to do it alongside Tyler & Freddy. I hope you all enjoy the series.

Am sort of watching the series backwards. Quickly becoming my favorite auto content on the Tube.
      Cannot get enough Car Trek.
      A perfect combination of characters!

Damn how lucky you are with this 360. You find a nice mechanic who says that car is in a good shape, and minor leak to be fixed (free).
In the real world, if I buy a cheap ferrari, I am hundred percent sure that it will cost me wife and kids to be reliable :'D

I love how this shop has all of these exotic cars, and there, in the back, sitting on a frame rack, in all metal, waiting for its share of love, a Datsun 510!

Now catching up on series 1-3...while working from home.
Sorry boss, "my Internet connection was fiddly all day so the spreadsheet kept going down. You know how it is."
    Can't wait for series 5.

That exact Vanquish S is Bad Ass! It looked great when he 1st pulled up... Everybody was speechless. Looks like a McKlaren mixed with a Mustang GT, Absolutely Beautiful Ride Man. Clearly the Winner, a c8 '20 Vette is North of 80 easily

I like the Mechanic. He's laid back and appears to be knowledgeable

It figures Hoovie would finally get a car in overall good shape when it isn't his money to lose.

  • All this what not

We need more of the mechanic. Does he have his own channel?

The only thing I don't like is how it looks. Awful lens flare and as a result(from shooting without a hood) low contrast, the yellowish color grading makes it even worse. I found it so distracting I had to rewind several times because I completely missed what they're talking about. They should have went with natural look(like how their videos look normally) and just kept everything else the same instead of it looking like it's shot on Mars.

Hopefully these guys will actually drive cars on a race track which was the only bearable part of Top Gear.

not gonna lie. I lost it laughing when Ed was giving his "Demonstration" of how to refuel a Gallardo and it shot out everywhere.

Copter Cop Hush you! :P Damn boomers mocking my choice of modern phrases... Though I kind of agree.... Now that I think about it, that's one of the most redundant statements ever. I shan't be using "Not gonna lie" in this context anymore... xD

@Bishop Mno ownership DOES NOTMEAN STOLEN ...you can always take the risk (which is zero risk at all if free) and have the police check.

@Bishop M who would steal a car and then give it away instead of selling it or scrapping it?
