Thanks to AutoTempest.com for sponsoring this series!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
On the first episode of Car Trek Series 7, AutoTempest challenges the guys to find the best imported cars they could get their hands on. Since they'd have to be at least 25 years old to qualify for importation, the guys would have to choose cars from the greatest decade - the '90s. Tyler brought a heavily modified BMW E30 325i hot rod from Lebanon, Freddy lets his JDM freak flag fly with an inappropriate Mazda RX-7, and Ed outdoes himself and shows up in the most offensive TVR Cerbera ever made. They are then told to meet at the Freedom Factory for a race. Hell yeah, brother.

Ed's not joking - that TVR was the absolutely the most famous cars in the early 2000 UK car culture. "Max Power" (popular UK tuner magazine) had it as one of their 'poster' cars, literally. Being a teenager at the time everyone had a poster of this car on their wall. Crazy that you guys actually got it!

Tavarish's car has art from the anime franchise "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha". The 2 characters are on the hood of the car are Takamachi Nanoha and her former adversary and now best friend Fate Testarossa. Fate Testarossa also adorns the car's doors, driver gauges, and rear view mirror.

@R T the cameo we didn't expect, but that we needed! (Honestly I think if they would have done an episode at the FF and Cleetus didn't make an appearance that would have been a huge disappointment)

Is it just me or is the chemistry between these three evolving similarly to how the second series of Top Gear went with Clarkson, Hammond and May? Can't wait to see where this goes from here.

    • TheVeel
      TheVeel 8 months ago

True dat, no show will ever be like it, mostly because people these days are way too sensitive and easily offended and louder about it than they used to be. I guess it's the nostalgia talking.

We have to stop comparing car shows to top gear. No show will ever be like it, not even TGT. But every show can be fun in its own way

Fun fact: the TVR Cerbera's Speed Eight engine was the sound used for the BMW M3 GTR in 2005's _Need for Speed: Most Wanted._

    • sav22rem22
      sav22rem22 10 months ago +1

@Luke doherty Nope. Fact check yourself

    • GearheadLydia
      GearheadLydia 10 months ago +3

@Luke doherty I highly doubt that. The GIN files in the SOUNDS directory contain a grain table for granular audio synthesis that can be decoded into a complete sound recording, which was clearly created by recording a car on a dyno if you listen to it.

    • Luke doherty
Luke doherty 10 months ago +1

Nope. Was made via computer no real car sounds

    • GearheadLydia
      GearheadLydia 10 months ago +1

@MIKEK3NT No, the real BMW M3 GTR of that generation sounds more like a race-prepped V8 Ferrari. Still a flat-plane crank V8, but a very different character to the sound.

    • Marten van der Meer
Marten van der Meer 10 months ago +6

That had to include the sounds of it breaking down after the first race in the game, right?
You can't run a TVR that long before something has to give.

I love how Ed didn't even try his usual financial gymnastics to justify his car. Usually there's an answer as to why he hasn't actually spent the amount he has actually spent, but even Ed can't talk his way out of that one. And yes, that TVR is almost certainly plotting how to murder it's current owner, because it's a TVR and they are the vehicular equivalent of an axe-murderer.

    • MyRegardsToTheDodo
      MyRegardsToTheDodo 10 months ago

@Mu4dD1b15 I am pretty sure Tavarish already showed that hentai mobile once on his channel a few months ago. Didn't he trade it for something? Don't actually remember.
Oh, and the TVR is crap already, the BMW was the only car that could actually keep up in a race, until it broke down. But I am with you, there were so many great choices they could have picked from, but they all went for shit cars.

    • Mu4dD1b15
      Mu4dD1b15 10 months ago +1

@MyRegardsToTheDodo That's even more of a reason why Ed wins this already. No budget and they chose an E30 and an FD.

    • Klaus K
      Klaus K 10 months ago

Regarding the TVR, it has the bizarre, unpredictable, homicidal potential of any redhead.
Which, of course, makes it a phallus magnet. For crazy people with death wishes willing to explore weird fetishes.
But poor Hoovie. When I heard that box of rocks sound, I was pretty sure that his gearbox had exploded. Six speed transmissions from techno-addicted great-grandchild cars are too progressive for an e30. Or at least that one.

The TVR was built by Carisma, it was a bit much when it was built initially. Carisma also built the silver Renault 5 turbo in the first Ali G move. You’re right though that TVR was quite famous. Max Power magazine was quite cool though it was Fast and Furious before fast and furious.

I can appreciate all the things it must take to make this series but honestly I can’t help but feel slightly disappointed that no time was invested to simply maintain the vehicles so they could be the best they can be. If I wanted to watch broken down cars for an hour I’d just look outside in my own parking lot 😂😂. Good job guys though
