The fact that this is loosely based on Spielberg’s childhood, his love for film, and the divorce of his parents, it’s safe to say that we’re in for something incredibly special. By the looks of it, Michelle Williams could finally win an Oscar. Spielberg may finally win a second Best Picture Oscar. I’m grateful for Spielberg and everything he’s given to the world. This will be on repeat till I finally see it on the big screen.

This trailer looks like it's pulling out all the emotional stops of a Spielberg film, but they're bouncing off of me. In contrast, the trailer from Super 8 (another film co-produced by Spielberg that had a similar theme of a child obsessed with making movies) drew me into the theater the day it opened.

Having seen it, it makes sense now why his movies are so shallow, why he shies away from raw honesty in his films. If this is representative of his life, he had it pretty good. It's hard to make films about characters that you have no experience with and apparently, he has very little experience with the vastness of humanity, i. e. his life was a sheltered one. Which is fine. But let's not all get crazy with these claims that he's the best filmmaker that has ever lived. If you think that, you haven't seen enough films in your life.

When Michelle Williams asked him “what was your favorite part?” I teared up a little. It reminds me back when I was a child going to the movies with my grandparents and being so stunned by the cinema experience and falling in love with film and the industry. Spielberg is one of the greatest visionaries of all time and can still pull at my heart strings. I know this one will be great, this comes off personal. When that can be captured through the lens- true passion. That’s when you know something special is on screen. Can’t wait to see this in theaters.

@Freddy The Platypus ??? .. Coppola didn't come up making escapist fare .. have u ever seen The Rain People (1969)?? THAT's early Coppola - the complete opposite of the breathing, living amusement park of a "filmmaker" that S.S. became .... you've got your eras flipped around backwards-- the 1970s were what SAVED auteur filmmaking, not the other way around

    • Freddy The Platypus

not to diminish anything Spielberg has been able to produce over his illustrious career, but I don't think him breaking into the industry and carving out his own corner of the film industry would be that difficult if you understood the shitty state cinema was in at the time. He basically saw a massive void in the type of films he wanted to see and he went ahead and made them. Him and the likes of George Lucas and Coppola were able to capitalize on the surreal escapist genre that so many audiences so desperately yearned to see.
Also re: you as an aspiring director you need to fight this woke shit from within every step of the way and stand with other creators that won't sell out to this agenda just to "get their shot." That's the cancer that is killing the film industry.

I've been a Spielberg fan for a very long time. Jurassic Park was my first real gateway to his films, and since then it has been an everlasting obsession with his films. Steven was the reason I decided to attend film school for college, and to pursue a career in filmmaking. Though the work I do differs from cinema, I would love to do future work in storytelling. I think Spielberg was and still is a huge inspiration for filmmakers all around the world. The Fabelmans looks to be a companion piece to Super 8 with a filmmaker following his passions. I am beyond excited to see this when it hits theaters, and I dearly hope that this film brings some awards to both the cast and crew. Cannot wait

I feel the same way. I've been a fan of Spielberg's work since I first saw Raiders as a child in 1981, although Jurassic Park was the movie that got me into filmmaking and has been my all-time favorite film since I first saw it. I also haven't exactly broken in yet, but I do a lot of screenwriting and no matter what Spielberg comes out with, his work always somehow ends up as some level of inspiration for me. I can't wait to see this one. I actually told this story, the story of his upbringing, when I did a filmmaker profile in one of my college film classes, so it's gonna be great seeing that story played out in his own style onscreen.

I'm so damn excited for this movie. I haven't been this emotional from a trailer alone in such a long time. Beyond the gorgeous storytelling, score, and cinematography, I'm excited to see him dive into aspects of growing up Jewish. When I was a kid, I always got sad seeing all the holiday lights up on people's houses and my parents wouldn't let us put them up because they were Christmas lights, they were not for Hanukkah, and I never thought it was a shared experience until seeing this also in the trailer. And as an aspiring filmmaker, I'm so excited to see more about the life of one of my favorite directors. Ahhhh I just can't wait for this movie :)

This trailer speaks volumes to me. It not only shows my passionate love for movies, but this gives me a preview to a film loosely based on the childhood of one of my favorite filmmakers and childhood heroes, Steven Spielberg. I not entirely sure, but I think that this could shape up to be Spielberg's next Best Picture winner and he could even win his third Best Director Oscar. His childhood - as well as this film trailer (now that I'm looking at it) - is what I shaped my O.C.'s childhood and filmmaking career on.
All and all, I can't wait till this movie comes out this November!

And still ~ I wait for the day that Spielberg trusts his audience enough to forego the telling & stick with the showing/revealing. We get it and it's far more satisfying to meet the movie and the story half way than have it 'delivered' as it is with Boris. Michelle Williams is, as always, the blue flame that burns away everything nonessential to character and story. Easy to see why Spielberg chose her for the role.

I am almost in tears just watching this trailer.. I remember being 6 years old the first time my parents put a camera in my hand, looking through the viewfinder...I never looked at things the same way after that.. grade school was stop animation videos and kung fu shorts...high school was skate videos and documenting parties (it was known that I always had a camcorder in my backpack..a camcorder I "borrowed" from the media lab) Went to school for video production, did a few jobs here and there in a already saturated field.... my mother always encouraged my artistic side, my father was a welder and pressured me into getting a trade, which I did... followed in his footsteps and became a welder...did it for 18 years... and hated it, the great pay was the only thing that kept me doing it.. 3 months ago I quit welding to work in a pressing plant making records...half the pay from welding....and I love it, I'm happy and I get to network with other musicians...and I feel like I have purpose...I still cut videos for my bands and friends bands...so life is still enjoyable.....going to see this movie opening night!

Beautiful. Perhaps this brilliant artistic endeavor could be analogous to an autobiography on film, to a da Vinci study or a self portrait of Norman Rockwell. This film is a gift to mankind to further know the soul of the greatest director & filmmaker of all-time.

Heard and knew absolutely nothing about this film, but 10 seconds in, I immediately thought this must be a Steven Speilberg film about himself (and inherently his most personal story.) Given the amount of film criticism there has been about written about exactly this, this is Easy frontrunner to win Best Picture. Would be stunned if it didn't win. This trailer is just magic.

As a child I loved the circus and one of my favorite movies was and is The Greatest Show On Earth .. in reading about Spielberg I found out that the train crash scene from that movie was a major turning point in his childhood in terms of sparking his passion for cinema. I was 6 years old when I saw Hook, a film which apparently critics didn’t understand at the time.. but is widely beloved by people my age. That film is very special to me because it’s about embracing imagination and rejecting cynicism.. and remembering to nurture your inner child.. that you were in many ways the best version of yourself when you had a sense of wonder and were unspoiled by the disappointment and heartbreak that comes with age. This seems to touch on those themes as well. We love you Steven Spielberg.. thank you for believing 🙏

Steven Spielberg must also be considered for nomination for the Nobel Prize in Literature. My mother would analyze Spielberg films as if they were literary works, among the greatest literary works and she would emphasize his use of fine literary techniques in film. The conscientiousness of Steven Spielberg films is a beautiful parallel to the endeavor of Alfred Nobel, and would also benefit the Nobel Prize in Literature forever. His films have enriched humanity, and considered as literary works have shaped the heart of mankind unlike any previous work of art.

Already knowing the backstory of my favorite Director it’s going to be emotional to see his story on the big screen. His story just goes to show that everyone has hard stuff they have to go through. Trials will come to everyone, the difference is how you choose to face them. He chose to overcome them and still fight against the norm to this day. I hope I get to meet him one day and tell him how thankful I am that he never gave up and has inspired so many!

That one guy was right when he said not to call filmmaking a hobby. It’s much more than that. Telling stores. Entertaining people. Creating amazement. When I was in college in my Career class, I said that I want to be a filmmaker. But my teacher said “That’s nice for a hobby, but let’s think of a job more realistic.” She said the same thing to my friend who wanted to be a painter. Filmmaking is a realistic job.
