The way the director communicated just how charming and impressive this con man really was and how the audience trusted the intelligence of the Hank who was still deceived gives the viewer a small glimpse into what it's like to be conned by a master con. Also Frank DID work for the FBI and if you trust the FBI when they tell you ANYTHING than maybe the good Lord skimped on your IQ points
