No trap drums. No boring verse, chorus, verse structures. Unique & varied bass? Not just spinz & zaytoven 808’s? Please god more of this

    • oogie googie
oogie googie 6 months ago +15

@Post Nut Clarity There’s some trappy drums, but the instrumentals are so eclectic and chaotic that you barely notice it. “Burfict!” for example is pretty trappy.

@Blu I.X. nah you’re definitely right. There’s elements that are almost Deconstructed Trap music. I just meant trap in its most common form but I def could’ve worded that bettwr

Hopefully this album will plant a seed in producers to start giving us more fresh & adventurous stuff. We so tired of these slidy 808’s, lex Luger hats.

If Vol. 1 was the last time Peggy’s using the 404 I can’t wait to see what kind of thing he’ll go for in a next volume. I feel like this is gonna be a series where he embarks on some of the weirdest and most left-field limitations and conditions he can think of.

This probably my biggest dream collaboration of all time. I've been telling dudes Danny top 5 rappers rn and Peggy is top 5, but in artistry. This really was how music can be when you go all out with no restraint. When you think about how much they probably paid for samples alone. They simply did this for the fans and that's the dopest part to me

honestly i wish more hip hop vocals were mixed this way. it lets you lean into the song to try hear the lyrics more and the music brings you in more. the super upfront vocals we are used to are great for the first time you hear a record, but the lower volume and distortion on the vocals on this record make relistening to it way better

  • Shaan Raval
Shaan Raval 6 months ago +14

I think both Danny and Peggy are mixed the same, but Danny typically enunciates his words strangely, so it’s harder to understand him. That being said, I still think Peggy should’ve mixed Danny higher for that exact reason. His mixing may work better for his voice, but not for Danny. Danny can never be backseat to any beat. Either he’s dominating the shit out of it or he’s oddly in harmony with it. You can’t just bury Danny.

    • SLI Biz
SLI Biz 6 months ago +6

Agreed. It doesn’t feel intentional to bury Danny.. it was clear after Lean Beef Patty was “fixed” that JPEG hadn’t mastered mixing Danny’s vocals compared to his own.

    • Joel
      Joel 6 months ago

I think it has a lot to do with their voices being different and behaving differently in the mix. I'm not a producer but Danny's voice is higher so it seems to get more easily buried by the loud synths that are in around the same frequencies.

oogie googie 6 months ago +8

I think the low vocal mixing was very intentional. My theory is that in the mixing process, they were basically just treating the vocals like any other instrument track and just mixed them to where they thought it sounded the best, disregarding whether you could understand everything clearly. They wanted this album to be about chaos and hard ass music. The vocals being mixed low, smothered by effects, cutting in and out, dipping from sidechains, it all just adds to the wild, chaotic vibe
