Respect to Aiden O'Connell. It's been a tough week for him with his brother dying. He played his heart out and made michigan work hard to win. He's a great QB and Id love to see him have success in the NFL. Good luck!

@PLUG! 🔌 Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Carson Palmer, Tua etc etc are all way better than Manziel. The real player on that team was Mike Evans who made Johnny look way better than he actually was (as exposed by the NFL)

@Eric: You can't see O'Connell in the NFL, but I bet you could see Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, and Ryan Leaf going pro, and who wouldn't? The thing is, you just never know. I mean, Jerry Rice was an also ran, and late draft pick, but turned out to be the greatest receiver of all time, and nobody saw Tom Brady reaching such heights. That's why I say, you just never know.

People of course mention playing without Blake Corum, but they are also playing without Edwards' catching option (due to his hand wrap/cast). Edwards previously had been a considerable threat catching passes, so Michigan is really missing some offensive versatility right now. I just can't believe Edwards and JJ are only sophomores. Can't wait to see what this team will be like in 23 and 24. If everyone stays healthy, 23 could be an exceptionally dominant year.

@Ike's World I remember the game with Clemson, but that's an ACC team, the same team that beat Ohio State 33-3 two years prior.
However the year they got to the finals, Alabama blew them off the field, carrying a 21 point lead easy.

    • Ike's World

When Michigan or Ohio State show up for a playoff game, that means actually competes.
Then you'll convince me that Big ten team's are not ranked because of politics.
Because the rest of the National rankings are based on competition, not how many people go to the bowl games.
Not since 2015 had a Big Ten team done anything, but get blown off the field.
But these are just facts, like if not for a bad pass interference call Michigan would have gotten beat by unranked Illinois, who lost the week before to unranked Purdue 🤔.

From a Michigan fan. I have to say Purdue does not look like an 8 & 5 team. They probably won't get a top bowl appearance. But whomever does play them, is going to have their hands full. They moved the ball against a very good Michigan defense. They just couldn't put the ball into the end zone, so they had to settle for five field goals. Make those field goals into TD's and Purdue wins a bowl game.

@HulkSmash Twenty-four Seven There will never be another Woodson or Howard, in my opinion.
Johnson is pretty dang good at this point, but my main gripe with him is that he plays the ball and tried to jump the route a few times and got burned because he neglected the fact that he no help over the top. This are not times to play the ball unless you are 100% sure.
Also, to be even considered in the same breath as Woodson, he'd need to shred opposing defenses as a WR and RB like Charles did.

As a Michigan fan, I am very glad things went our way, especially in the second half. But that was a tough game. Purdue outgained us by 70-80 yards, made 27 first downs to our 17. Each team had 6 scores. All the Michigan scores were touchdowns; 5 of the 6 Purdue scores were field goals. Wow - that was a true example of try to "bend but not break". I am sure Purdue will give a strong performance in whatever Bowl game they go to. I rather hope TCU stays as the "3" seed - going for the win on 4th down rather than kicking a field goal should not be a major penalty.

Michigan needs to think UNLV versus Duke in 1990 and 1991.
In 1990 UNLV embarrassed Duke in the national title game.
In 1991, an undefeated UNLV team reached the semi-final game against Duke and led by a returning Laettner and a freshman named Grant Hill, Duke got revenge and won their first national title.
In 2021, Georgia embarrassed Michigan in the semi-final game now Michigan in 2022 should be hoping for a Georgia rematch to go 15-0 and win the national title.
Beating a defending champion would cement Michigan as the greatest Michigan and Big 10 team ever.

Purdue isn't a bad team at all and played really well this weekend but they are the benefits of playing in the weakest division in all of college football. They really finished number 4, almost number 5 in the BigTen.

Is it just me or Michigan is playing style pretty similar to Dawgs of Georgia? They love power running game and they utilize their tight ends quite a bit.

@Mike Workman2 best wins in the country? By two way over-ranked teams. Michigan is like Notre dame, always terrible and somehow always on tv. Probably get beat by tcu

    • Mike Workman
      Mike Workman 3 months ago

@Kevin Scott haha 100% with the deja Vu statement, I feel the same seeing a lot of videos with talking heads saying silly things like Georgia being overrated, I think they are the number 1 team but this year the gap between Michigan and Georgia is a lot smaller, it's apparent in that last year Michigan had a lot of close games that came down to the final possession to beat but this year they end the game by midway through the 3rd quarter. Hoping they can pull off the upset, at the very least be competitive this year, such a bad taste in your mouth when you do well all year to flop at the very end.

    • Kevin Scott
      Kevin Scott 3 months ago

      @Mike Workman
All you've done by invoking records is rehash a circular debate regarding which conference is the strongest.
Indeed Ohio St played 3 ranked teams who beat who?An 8-4 Notre Dame,a Penn St team whose best win was a 4-point victory against unranked Purdue and a Michigan team who destroyed them?
      Yeah ok.
Bottom line - No one is trying to discredit Michigan. They could very well win it all.
But I'll be damned if I'm not experiencing deja Vu.
Indeed Michigan fans and analysts talked the very same shit in the lead up to the cfp last year: "Who has Georgia played?"
"Our win against Ohio St is far more impressive than any win they've had this year."
      "Alabama exposed Georgia.They're clearly overrated."
Well,we all know how that logic worked out.
      Good luck.👍

    • Mike Workman
      Mike Workman 3 months ago

@Kevin Scott I'm not saying Michigan is better or worse than Georgia but don't dismiss Michigan so fast as they have been very dominant this year! To counter your points:
1 - Number 4 OSU on the road by 23pts (OSU's only loss) and number 9 Penn State by 24pts (one of 2 losses, their worst loss).
      2 - OSU played 3 ranked teams: number 2, 9, and 19
3 - Tennessee got blown out much worse by another team, Oregon lost 2 other games, LSU has 4 losses, Mississippi St has 4 losses, South Carolina has 4 losses... Those wins arent that impressive when so many other teams can beat them too

    • Kevin Scott
      Kevin Scott 3 months ago

      @Mike Workman
1 - What are the two best wins in the country by a mile?
2 - OSU is in the playoff because their weak schedule only cost them one loss.
3 - Georgia is the only team in the country to not only beat but positively destroy FIVE different teams that finished in the ap top 25.(Tennessee,Oregon,LSU,Mississippi St and South Carolina.)
And the Dawgs did this after losing over 30 percent of it's scholarship players to the NFL and transfer portal respectively.

Passing yards might just be one of the most over-hyped stats in football. Look at all these championship games this weekend for example - The losing teams in each game threw for more yards than the winning teams. In Michigan's case, their last two opponents have thrown for 350 yards or more while McCarthy barely scratches 150 and they blow them out. Georgia blew the doors off LSU but the Tigers threw for 500 yards. That's incredible! If you can't ground and pound it you're soft and just trying to play catch up against better teams.
And that is why QB's with blown up passing stats should not be dominating the Heisman year in and year out, IMO.

@mark both sides were holding and I don't care about either team. Refs shouldn't just let both sides commit fouls, it is bad all across football on the college and pro level. Holding is out of control, either make it legal or enforce it! Pass interference is just as bad. If they are both hand fighting call offsetting and make them do it until they get it right!

    • mark
      mark 3 months ago

      @Bart Foster 🤔…
I guess if their was a total miracle and Michigan had lost last night to Purdue I may be bitter and crying like you are today about every offensive snap Purdue had that they were holding at the line of scrimmage?
