Another outstanding restoration Radek and Veronica! I am surprised that you didn't need to sharpen or renew the grinding surfaces, they have lasted well for 100 years of daily use without wearing down. I see Veronica is using the sandblasting machine now as well as telling the history, demonstrating the machine AND supplying a recipe! Where does she get the time? Well done both of you, congratulations on a fun-to-watch restoration that in informative as well. Ahoj, Nick

Thank you very much Nick :) Yes, these grinders have a grinding mechanism made of very high quality material. I have already renovated dozens of similar grinders, mainly for one particular museum, and surprisingly they always worked without problems. It probably wouldn't happen with today's products :(
Thanks Nick for watching :) Big hugs to R&V

Fabulous restoration and interesting history lesson as always.
I don't know if this was ever a thing in your part of the world, but I recall a school of thought in the early 1970's That demonized coffee as a drug because of the caffeine, so a coffee substitute called postum was wildly available. It was primarily fine milled wheat and roasted Chickory root based. I never personally knew anyone who drank it, but the trend was short lived. While Chickory is plentiful across the United States, the fact that you have to harvest roast and grind quite a bit of it to make a single cup of fake coffee caused it to become too expensive, plus like many other health trends, it was a passing fad to all except those who can't drink caffeine for medical reasons.
Postum along with other coffee substitutes is apparently still available, but its still more expensive. I have to say that I have had coffee with Chickory added, and it makes for a smoother more flavorful brew.

    • Veradona Restoration
      Veradona Restoration  8 months ago

Yes, as Veronica talks about it in the video. The coffee was called Cikorka in our country. Today, coffee is also available without caffeine (instant) and is almost unrecognizable. Thank you Denise :)
