Wow, looks like a Sgt York. Oops my mistake the Gepard actually works and the US wasted 1.8 dollars on the Sgt York. Yes, I was in the 3/67 ADA in the early 80's and we reorganized for the SGT York. I watch the Gepard on numerous deployments to Todendorf, West Germany; seemed like it never missed. The US should have bought the Gepard turret and place it on an M1 Abrams chassis.

And it's this only close - range, highly mobile AA tank that the German MOD disbanded because Mr. Kaputin looked so peaceful from the outside😡!!!

    • Dirk Scheidemann
      Dirk Scheidemann 3 months ago

No, it was disbanded because of cost-effectiveness and maintenance issues. The problem is there was no serious follow-up.

Indeed it works! It's a realy good system against low flyoing objects. But why adding clips of other vehicles when talking about the Gepard, can't you see that it's not Gepards at 0.26 and 1.11 and 2.01 and 2.39 and 3.13 and 9.00 and 10.38😖

I bet it was amazing in 1975, that piece of kit is at best usable for helicopters and low altitude/speed drones. I dont see that hitting any modern missile.

I don't know what constitutes a "modern missile", but the Ukrainians sure do manage to shoot down Russian Cruise missiles with the Gepard. You can find videos on YT of the Gepard doing exactly that.

Yup... you WON't see.... because it is german made.....

Polish little more modern 35 mm system can shout down 155 mm shells using less than 10 shots. Gepard can perfectly shoot down cruise missiles, the whole point is the range up to 3.5 km.

I mean, depensing on what you would consider "modern" it's pretty effective in shooting down Russian Cruise Missiles over Ukraine. Even with severe Ammo constraints and individual units being stretched thin across the frontline.
It's performance has exceeded even the expectations of the German experts who trained the Ukrainians on it.

The irony of the war in Ukraine is that alot of countries have suddenly realised that the Gepard concept, which Germany has stopped building, will need to be looked at seriously again!
With the rapid development of drones and loitering munition, there will be a need for an efficient mobile AA system

      mycomike12  2 months ago

yeah ofcos to have an effective air defense you have to use a mix of sytems.......you are right my brother

      @mycomike12
Most Army's have been looking for their own variants based on the Soviet ZSU 23 or Gepard systems.
The trouble is it's too easy to over complicate the idea , as in the Russian Pantir, which is both a missile and cannon system.
It's proved to be a dud in the Ukraine.
What Clip-Share video's and news articles don't show is that the Gepard isn't being used alone.
The Ukranians have cleverly been using the Gepard alongside an older tracked Russian missile system, that is by Its self out of date, to create a very effective low level defence network , sited around high value targets.

@Tony Browne the leopard 1 is the predecessor of leopard 2 and the leopard 1 chassis is used for the Gepard.

@Donato Bisceglia i am a german combat engineer veteran and i highly value the dutch-german cooperation in defence. We may disagree about minor issues, what is important to me is that we share values and are ready to defend them and intensify cooperation for that matter. op uw gezondheid!

    • Dirk Scheidemann
      Dirk Scheidemann 3 months ago

@Donato Bisceglia that is incorrect. The german Gepards were solely owned by the industry (after being bought back from the Bundeswehr in 2012) and had no role in NATO reserves whatsoever. It may be different with dutch Gepards though.

Disliked not for lacking love for the Gepard, but because of the robot narration. I get not liking the sound of your own voice, but too many soulless bots man 😢
