- Germany has made the decision to send Leopard 2 tanks to aid Ukraine in its fight against Russia's invasion.
Berlin also cleared the way for other European countries to send German-made tanks from their own stocks.
Following Germany’s announcement, the US said it would deliver M1 Abrams tanks.
Ukraine has lobbied Western allies to send the military equipment for months.
BBC Analysis Editor Ros Atkins examines the background to Germany’s decision to send its tanks to Ukraine.

It's a historical decision for Germany to sent these tanks.....nothing less!
@Ирина Яковлева Precisely! The Germans must support the Ukrainians in the defense of their homeland against the invaders!
Not really, Historically Germany has been part of NATO on other peacekeeping missions.
Why do they need more tanks ?
Thanks to assistance, Ukraine can defend itself against the Russian occupiers, but it is very difficult to go on the offensive. The Ukrainians must liberate all of their territory, and we must help by providing tanks and other weapons.
The Abrams would be excellent for training and defending Ukraine's northern border with solid supply lines to Poland, while freeing up the Leopards to fight on the front.
Very difficult to support the Abrams in Ukraine. The US has a great logistics supply chain for it. Ukraine does not.
@RuleofFive Poland is already training on Abrams. From Wikipedia: "Poland has bought 250 new American M1 Abrams tanks [...] 7 loaned training tanks have already been delivered to Poland as of July 2022."
👍
0:43 this map is oddly incomplete. in Europe, the Netherlands operate Leopards too, outside Europe Canada, Chile, Qatar, Indonesia and Singapore all have these tanks
Yes its not correct, but as far as i know the Leopards in The Netherlands are German property. Maybe because of that they are not on the map
The Leopard is the utmost german precision high engineering and will instantly neutralise russian tanks. It was designed to do so.
But only 10% have be fitted with APS so most are vulnerable to ATGM's like any other tank
Won't be operational for at least 3 months so not delivering all the tanks today is a big problem.
In Syria Leopards were instantly neutralized by ISIS
And so do the Challenger-2 and the Abram
First thing Russia will do is destroy these tanks
Aren't tanks supposed to be accompanied by heavy air support in modern warfare?
Yes. The difference in this war is that no side has airsuperiority.
The tanks are remote controlled. 😜
Yeah Russia can't fly over Ukraine their air defense is too strong. They tried the other day for the first time in months and 3 jets got shot down. They may receive US jets soon though as they are training Ukrainian pilots in the f16
@PolarstormActually Russian tank turrets do have air superiority soon.
What I don’t quite get about all this, is that Germany has been supplying Ukraine with munitions since the beginning of this proxy war farrago; therefore, a tank or two is surely just a slight upgrade, but the principle is the same: military support for Ukraine.
Well the thing is that germany doesn’t want to escalate things but at the war became longer and more civilians got killed they finally decided to escalate and bring tanks so other country’s woud follow soon.
you are right in terms of logic. but armed vehicles are a huge step. if everything would be the same, fighter jets of allies would already fly over ukraine. germany not only delivers, they are actually playing the biggest role besides the us france and britain. considerinmg that germany was the enemy of them all in this century its quite a milestone now. its important that the leaders will act together. yes its russias fault and yes ukraine needs help but we have to understand that this is simular if not worse then the cold war situation.

Just for the record: Since the outbreak of the war, the German Government has made available more than 12.5 billion euros in bilateral support for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in Ukraine.
The total value of individual licenses issued by the Federal Government for the export of military goods in the period from January 1, 2022 to January 16, 2023 amounts to 2,278,902,521 Euro.
Last year's financial aid package for Ukraine reached over €2 billion. Work is underway to prepare the next support package.
Germany is also the largest contributor to the refinancing fund of the European Peace Facility (EPF), which so far has enabled the provision of 3.1 billion euros to support the delivery of military equipment from EU member states to the Ukrainian armed forces.
During the past 10 months of the war, Berlin has contributed military equipment from Bundeswehr stocks, despite the fact that this army is currently in a very dilapidated state and lacks literally everything (which is no secret).
Due to security concerns, the Federal Government abstains from providing details. Nevertheless, we know of a few examples of military support, such as:
• 2 air surveillance radars
• 40 MARDER infantry fighting vehicles with ammunition
• air defense system PATRIOT with missiles
• 114 reconnaissance drones
• 18 wheeled self-propelled howitzers RCH 155
• 16 self-propelled howitzer Zuzana 2* (joint project with Denmark and Norway)
• 90 drone detection systems
• 26 load-handling trucks 15t
• 7 self-propelled anti-aircraft guns GEPARD
• 7 tracked and remote controlled infantry vehicles for support tasks
• 6 mobile and protected mine clearing systems
• 3 air defense system IRIS-T SLM and Iris-T SLM missiles
• 42 mine clearing tanks and 3 mobile, remote controlled and protected mine clearing systems
• 5 mobile reconnaissance systems (on vehicles)
• 5 armored engineer vehicles
• 3 heavy and medium bridge systems
• 13 bridge-laying tanks BEAVER*
• 20 frequency range extensions for anti-drone devices
• 12 communications electronic scanner/jammer systems
• 78 heavy duty trailer trucks
• 14 truck tractor trains and 14 semi-trailers*
• 2 tractors and 4 trailers
• 10 protected vehicles
• vehicle decontamination system
• 5,032 man-portable anti-tank weapons
• over 200 trucks
and other vehicles, ammunition, medicine, field hospital and much more.
This is not the end, another list is being prepared (although it remains classified within NATO). So as you can see, the Germans gave not only helmets and Leopards
It should be stressed that the German government is also supporting all Ukraine's uniformed services (and not just the Armed Forces), this includes the supply of 195 power generators, 35 ambulances, 78 vehicles for border guards, 280 trucks, as well as minibuses, quads, fuel and the like. This list is constantly growing.
And here are a few more, selected examples, additional activities of Germany for Ukraine (from a long list):
• Support for Holocaust victims through the Conference on Jewish Material Claims against Germany (one-off payments to some 10,000 people in Ukraine): €12 million in total;
• Aid for pets from Ukraine: €5 million (animals also suffer from war);
• Coordination of transport and assistance in the movement of Ukrainian refugees within Germany: €90 million;
• Recognition of travel documents held by Ukrainian drivers, toll exemptions for humanitarian transports (millions more);
• Creation of 14 positions in the Federal Prosecutor's Office to handle proceedings related to the war in Ukraine;
• Support for the introduction of an emissions trading scheme in Ukraine: €3 million;
• Strengthening biosecurity in Ukraine: €808,000.
The German government's assistance to Ukraine also includes some funds provided to Ukraine's neighbors (including Moldova, Romania and the other Eastern Partnership countries) in the very broad context of the ongoing war (for example, the sum of €11.2 million in support for democratization and stabilization it this regions)
and some financial assistance to selected Russian NGOs, which also qualifies as support for Kyiv, is another special case.
Who can, let him give more.
It's worth taking this into account before you start pointless criticism.
Lol what're you talking about, Germany has been a reluctant partner to supplying weapons so much so that when the UK and US were shipping weapons before the invasion, Germany shut off their flights from their airspace and they had to travel through Denmark to get to Ukraine. Zelenskiy even called them out for it
French Tanks, would be like British Tanks, too few in number, but the Political International Value over the Military Value, maybe more important here, for both the French and Ukraine's Governments, by French Main Battle Tanks going to Ukraine.
With 14 British Tanks, plus 30 American Tanks, then now the French agree to sending 14 French Tanks, could give the Ukraine one very powerful International Armoured Regiment of 58 MBT's.
With these British, American and French MBT's, being sub divided into 4 Tank Squadrons, each of three Tank Troops. Then between France, the British and Americans each supply a Battalion of Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicles - Tracked
Around 180 AIFV-T's in total, or 60 British AIFV's and 60 American AIFV's, plus 60 French AIFV's, the Ukraine Military could form a very powerful International Armoured Mechanized Brigade, that could be a Spearhead unit for the Ukraine's against the Russian Forces
Especially when equally supplied with more British, French and American Self-Propelled 155mm Howitzers and MLRS plus HIMAR's, as well as Self-Propelled Air Defence System too.
Then if Germany (giving 14 Leopards Tanks at least) along with other Nato Countries, the likes of Poland, Spain, Canada, Netherlands, Belgian, Denmark, Greece, Norway, Italy, Portugal, Turkey and Hungary, plus Finland, Sweden and Austria too .
All agreed to send Leopard MBT's, to formed two or four Armoured Regiments, around 200 Leopard Tanks, again with more AIFV-T's, to create two more Armoured Mechanized Brigades, again with more Self-Propelled 155mm Howitzers and MLRS plus HIMAR's, as well as Self-Propelled Air Defence System too.
This would give Ukraine Government and Military, a whole Armoured Mechanized Division, with around 260 MBT's and 540 AIFV-T's, to attack the Russian Forces in Ukraine, which would be a major problem for Putin's Soviet Regime.
Though if Western International Allies, who have Leopard Tanks, like Australia, Brazil, Singapore, Chile, Indonesia and Qatar, can donate some of their own Leopard Tanks to Ukraine, maybe enough to create another Armoured Regiment or a whole Armoured Brigade of 180 Leopard Tanks too?
with the possibility within a year, Ukraine could be given or supplied, over or nearly 300 Leopard MBT's, plus around another 100 MBT's coming from the American's, British and French now too.
400 Western Tanks, fighting against mostly out of date Russian Tanks, from the 1950's and 1960's, or 1970's and 1980's, with fewer 1990's early 2000's Russian Tanks too, any tank battles in Ukraine could be very one sided, because the Russians cannot supply either Close Air Support for its own ground forces, neither can the Russian Air Force have Air Superiority over all of Ukrainian Air Space too.
So Russian tanks and IFV's plus ground forces, will be wide open to Ukraine fighters and drone attacks too!
If Putin's Soviet Regime, if they knew what was go for it now, they would or should be asking for or calling for International Peace Talks sooner rather than latter!
Though that would mean Putin's Soviet Regime losing Political Face, both internationally and more importantly at home in Russia, so Putin would lose power in the process too!
So Putin's Soviet Regime, are threatening the West with Nukes again, like some school playing group bully, who only has empty threats left to try and get his way!
Leopard tank:
Belgium has no tanks at all
Austria is not in NATO
Hungary, like Turkey, is not sending any of its tanks
Brazil and Australia also do not have Leopard tanks
Italy has its homemade tanks.
I'm going to get a hard on seeing those leopards in combat for the first time. Best of luck to the Ukrainians, and I hope they get used well.
Obviously no-one commenting has a clue about modern mechanised warfare. The only valid thing the journalist said is tanks are most effective when concentrated together to break opposition lines. A few modern tanks can only get you so far.
Tigers v T-34s in the 1940s on the eastern plains. Leopards v T-72 in the 2020s on the eastern plains. A bizarre feeling. High tech v mass once again. Logistics, probably most important lesson of war is about to be tested. Logistics will decide the winner.
I only wonder how could these tanks possibly perform well on the battlefield.
don't worry! ..Putin will pluck them out one by one❗️🤣😂😅
..🇷🇺✌
@sol In your dreams🤣
Hopefully the old series 1 Leopard 2's will have had a good oil change and service first
better to save the oil before they burn
The Germans don't send old models, although they could.
Chancellor Scholz: will be Leo2A6, the modern ones
maybe the old Leopard 1 units in storage at the manufacturer will see some action after all, once the initial hesitation has passed to overcome historical restraints
Well done Germany your decision may help the world remain free from autocracy and repression
Seems Like things are getting worse by my calculations...
Now it is important not to slow down the pace of arms deliveries and continue to send everything Ukraine needs to win as soon as possible.
to compare what happened 80 years ago, is wrong. The only comparison is an aggressive country rolling tanks across borders uninvited....Then it was Germany, now its Russia.
Weapons supplied without men are a completely different scenario.
Huge but kudos to the 🇬🇧. They primed the machine, and Poland gets a strong assist!
@Luke Morgan can't argue with that. As for the war, it was a matter of time before it would come to us. Sadly, it is the common people who pay, not the wealthy.
Germany finally made the right choice. But I think it is very important not to drag out these decisions now
@CRITTERFEST SANCTUARY We are talking about modern Russia and Putin (who is the new Hitler, no less). Now fascism in russia, that's the problem
@Leisa Kovacek I'm in America for the record and I want to say that even though I'm pissed about the situation, over all I appreciate your comment and thank you for replying without throwing hate toward me. may peace be with you.
And some people still claim this isn't a proxy war
How can it be a proxy war when there's no war? It's just a special proxy military operation! 😃
Russia can just leave if it doesn't want to fight a proxy war... I'm sorry specially military operation, with the west.
Im a Jinn and trust me, Human beings should abolish all ethnicities and religions, they have caused wars, violence, theft etc. Human beings are rather advanced but they cannot maintain a sustainable system or society without beliefs and or reasons with causes and stuff. Putin started the largest war of annexation in Europe since you-know-who. Then told the world that if the Ukrainians successfully fight back he would start a nuclear war. Yet somehow everyday Putin is asking "How am I the bad guy here?!"
Telepresence is your friend here if what the tank personnel can see and have on monitors can be transferred by hopping radio or starlink to experienced personnel far from the frontlines the people in the tanks can be instructed in realtime, reducing their training time.
russia wont imagine theyll be that effective, but they will be, because they'll have plans, and not get stuck in a traffic jam, led by idiots, and will be MODERN
Azov and Aidar battalions can decorate those tanks with extra special symbolism and flags.
Oh, the Russian Imperial Movement already painted the russian tanks.
Stay strong, Ukraine💙💛 More heavy weapons on the way!!
I fail to see the logic behind the argument that Germany is reluctant to send tanks to Ukraine, because they committed atrocities there in the past. It would seem to me that sending tanks, and not only tanks, but all kinds of other weapons would be a way to atone for those crimes, of which Ukraine suffered the most then, and for indirectly inflicting on Ukraine another round of such atrocities by hands of the regime that Germany had nurtured.
You fail to see it because you fail to understand their position. It wasn't a reluctance to send tanks to Ukraine like you cite. It was a reluctance for unilaterally sending them. It was clearly stated this was the only hold up.

A couple hundred western tanks without combined arms and air superiority will make very little difference in Ukraine. Who owns the sky in Ukraine? Russia. Furthermore, it will take at least six months to train Ukrainian crews to use and maintain these tanks. The M1's and Challenger are strictly for show. The Ukrainians need a common platform for training, maintenance, and spare parts. The Leopard makes sense, but on this massive battlefield where Ukraine has already lost over 150,000 dead, a few tank battalions will make no real difference.
Better research who owns the skies. Neither one does.
Russia loses in the sky and fires missiles without entering Ukraine like the cowards they are. Russia can't even secure its own sky and had to move its strategic bombers out of its base on russian soil. Try and pay attention next time

@Coma White you pay too much attention on bbc cnn.
Two mistakes, the Netherlands also uses Leopard tanks and Germany is the 2nd largest supplier of weapons for Ukraine before the UK
you can't expect the second point to be acknowledged by the British themselves

Just curious how well these tanks will fare against Nuclear weapons? Asking for a friend.
I know right? Barely a mention of the fact that this is an escalation, and it's potential consequences. Great journalism.
i remember a time when germany only gave helmet to ukraine at the beginning of the war.
bad defense minister
@k_u_e_r_i_s_u_e
I‘m a German, my Land is very often „to Late“. Terrible!
Problem is the quantity... 14 tanks from Germany and another 14 from Poland wouldn't change anything.
Also they are the 2a4 variant (not the new 2a7) which is subpar compared to current variant of the T72.
Germany will be sending more, this is a first delivery. Other countries will chip it gradually also...
Germany delivers their 2A6 variant, they actually don't have any 2A4 in active duty anymore. But yeah, sadly you're right about the other countries...so many were crying that ukraine needs modern tanks and bashing and trashtalking about germany (yeah, i look at poland) to make way for their tank deliveries. And what now? Suddenly you only hear of a few countries that are actually ready to give away a few tanks and in the most cases only the old 2A4 variants.
Some reports (including from Der Spiegel) talk about Germany suppling the 2a6 variant. which, while is not the latest, but is a much improved version over the 2a4's.
The guardian says Finland Spain and the Netherlands will also deliver 2a6's, while a second tank battalion of 2a4's will be supplied by Poland and Norway.
As for the 'current variant of the T72', Russia doesn't have a lot of those either. most are the early model T72, which the 2a4 can handle.
But even then, tank on tank engagement have been pretty rare during the war, so isn't even that important.
@FoolHD Yeah, Poland better deliver now after they have been trash talking Germany for months...
Lets see what happens
Uk got this ball rolling 🇬🇧💪
Germany must not use its history to paralyze itself
World will be destroyed soon
@Hangry Hippothat may be true ; but Ukraine still needs tanks
easier said than done. as the clip said, one year ago all this was unthinkable. one year is very fast to throw overboard so many foreign policy convictions which have been adhered to by generations of politicians before
Now rhe world needs to get France to step up.
The apparently high maintenance costs of their tanks wouldn't be a great fit for Ukraine, the lower maintenance (for tank anyway) leopards are a better fit. In addition there are far more available that Europe can supply without diminishing their own defensive capabilities.
Germany substantially reduced russian gas ? ZERO , russian gas since Summer 2022. No direct delivery threw all three Pipelines since Summer 2022. Greetings from Germany.
So was it a friend of Germany’s that destroyed the pipelines…or an enemy? A serious contemplation of that question and its obvious answer may help you to view the events going on in Germany…and in Ukraine…in a clearer light.
@THOMAS CAIN my money is on the Poles
@Embreis mine too
The difference, for Germany, is that for WWI and WWII, their tanks were sent on the offensive. Today, they're being used by a defending country - fighting for their freedom! It really doesn't take THAT much logic to work it out!
it's still the principle of the fact that German tanks are headed east again mate
Just gonna paste what I answered another person ^^
through Germanys involvement. It was, and still is, a big debate in which most people where neither for, nor against it. It may seem to other countries as decision where the answer is already clear, but that’s not the case for Germany. Also our political culture played a huge part in the way we handled this “issue”. The same way other political cultures if other countries played a huge part in their opinion in this matter.
And also as a young German citizen I can say, that our history is definitely important to us and it’s one of the reasons why Germany often tries to negotiate first and wants to take the most peaceful way, but it’s definitely not the only reason. Nowadays modern circumstances have more influence then our terrible past.
I hope that I was able to explain my point of view clearly, despite my poor English. I just wanted to give an insight in the German perception of this debate, as I felt that I wasn’t probably displayed in the BBC report.
I would appreciate it, if the world could have a more dimensional view of Germany and maybe one day not only see it as it’s terrible past, which definitely shouldn’t be forgotten, but as a modern country, which learned positively from their past. That is my hope for Germany and I hope we’re on a good way :)
Btw. I hope I’ve been clear, but I’m not saying who’s right and who’s wrong. I’m just saying it’s complicated ^^

Give typhoon jets and submarines to Ukraine next
one step at a time shall we, it's taken this long to get tanks. Scholz would have a seizure if the topic was brought up.
A Typhoon would be useless to the Ukrainians, as would a submarine. You can't give a pilot a crash course in a 6th gen NATO aircraft when they've only ever used 4th or 5th gen Soviet aircraft, unless the word "crash is taken literally"
Ukraine is also waiting on the F16 to arrive and they already know how to use them no training required 😊
@Vic Chairez there's a lot of training needed to make sure their mig training doesn't come in during a high stress situation, otherwise ukrainian pilots will instinctively try to push a button that doesnt exist at best, or does something else entirely at worse. Instead they'll want the stocks of MiGs and SUs that the Polish are sitting on
Why aren’t you on the frontline?

No they were FORCED to send tanks
Guess they'll be driven by the Azov guys for old time's sake.
Putin said Russia can send eggs and milk to the EU to make sure its a fair fight.
Sure, and the rusian T90s are driven by guys from the Russian Imperial Movement.
I'm happy Germany is sending tanks. That said, there is some kind of ancestral terror triggered in me when I see that black and white cross on those things.
Right lol Russia like not again those Damm Germans and those Damm tanks

@2msvalkyrie They will have to be painted in full rainbow before exporting, and have health and safety signages place on the tank saying this device could hurt someone.

It is difficult decisions to German to supply tanks for Ukraine. When the Germany needs Russia's cheap energies developing their economy. This decision almost terminates this hope of German with Russia relations.
We already stopped importing Russian oil and gas. Greetings from Germany.

This will be a game changer. Like the Javelins, the HIMARS and the Patriots. The Ghost of Kyiv's children will personally drive these tanks to glory.
Can the tanks not be controlled remotely via frequency hopping coms link.. Then trained personnel far from the battlefield can do the driving and firing .. Guys onboard are just along for the ride and to throw the shells in the breach.
Still nobody tried this.
Такие танки есть только у России. Армата, их было сделано 2000. Да они управляются дистанционно. Но в боевых действиях их не используют, т.к. есть риск дистанционного перехвата управлением танка, и поэтому они на доработке, и их показывают только на парадах.
Cheers for Germany and Mr. Scholz.
Ukraine will still lose
REGIME CHANGE FOR RUSSIA. #overthrowputin ✊✊✊✊
How important is Annalena Baerbock's declaration of war on Russia? I don't think Article 5 applies in this case.
🤡
It's about as relevant as Scooby-Doo's recent declaration of war against Russia.
Woww. 14 tanks. Thanks mate. That is generous.
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
• Support for Holocaust victims through the Conference on Jewish Material Claims against Germany (one-off payments to some 10,000 people in Ukraine): €12 million in total;
• Aid for pets from Ukraine: €5 million (animals also suffer from war);
• Coordination of transport and assistance in the movement of Ukrainian refugees within Germany: €90 million;
• Recognition of travel documents held by Ukrainian drivers, toll exemptions for humanitarian transports (millions more);
• Creation of 14 positions in the Federal Prosecutor's Office to handle proceedings related to the war in Ukraine;
• Support for the introduction of an emissions trading scheme in Ukraine: €3 million;

Tears in the ocean of need. Ukraine is losing on average 300 tanks per quarter of the year in war. Seen the stats from Ukrainian defence ministry. This tanks are merely a replacement for the ones lost already. Russian offensive is coming so loses will be greater than before. Question is what after if they need more? Western warehouses are slowly coming to an end. Unless the production is on it’s way
These tanks are more modern, so they won't lose as many and can do more damage with them.
Escalating tensions between the two countries. Russian may have to step up its game .
I have a german drill who is 30 years old she still works well
Believe me ruzzia is dead
That is your pride
Just like zelenski
Ukraine will need about 5000 of these tanks to make real change on the battle field, as Russia has about 13000 of their tanks.
Most of Russians tanks are crap not useable and almost not kept up so like 40% of them are almost useless and the other 60% are cheap tanks that aren’t great too.
@Nano1 yes you are right, but a hundred western tanks vs 3000 crap russian ones are still bad odds sadly
Great news. I'm wondering if Putin needs sleeping tablets or maybe he just watches his own propaganda as usual.
Zelenski 🐉
Thank you very much! Yes I had this Impression...
Play some ride of the valkyries when they break through.
@Natalie Miller_fx_trader No thanks. I'm happy with 1K a month.

@johnny mematik sorry are you familiar with crypto trading ?
Remember Thatcher's hysteria when Germany re-unified? After decades of Germany-bashing by the UK (whose worshiped royal family is indeed German) Britain seems to be happy that Germany is there.
they have Brexit now. Makes them feel cozy and more relaxed towards continental Europe. But the UK still has the Murdoch press deep down in a cesspit . They love bashing Germany.
One thing I don’t understand is because of couple of people politicians arguing each other’s which is elected by people and they just sitting behind the desk innocent soldiers and civilians are dying for just few politicians also suffering from hunger and economic crisis instead of saying enough to those blood suckers politicians they just arguing each other without us these blood sucker politicians and they can’t move a finger but let’s keep sleeping
This is classic 'mission creep' .....Slowly walking into a NATO - Russia conflict....
It’s easy to know when NATO makes a decision that hurts Russia. Just look at all the Russian troll comments in the Comments section, and you’ll find their numerous lies. Such is the case here. They’ve come out in droves. I just enjoy watching them eat their words when things go their way.
I'm looking forward to a few months time when Zelensky has to phone Scholz and ask for more ..! ! Having lost all the ones they were given. ! Although I expect Zelensky Will be replaced before then when his corruption is exposed.? His friends all resigned
but Biden had to allow him to stay....!
Ukraine had in it armoury 949 Tanks - just before the war - How's a few more NATO tanks going to make a considerable difference - This war is over and peace and diplomacy are need more than ever not escalate till we go full nuclear over pride and hurt ego's
@barrieboy10 They’re obviously going to need more than what was recently announced. From what I’ve read is that they should be getting at least 100 Leopards, which should make a difference.
Mr Putin is the hero of our times. Be glorious the free Motherland 🇷🇺
They should send more

Germany’s decision to send tanks to Ukraine is dumbest idea by Olaf.
22 years ago, NATO bombed our city of Belgrade. NATO killed 5,783,000 civilians, including 437 children burned alive by banned bombs. No one is punished. And we were bombed. By country, the number of aircraft involved was as follows at the beginning of April 1999: 250 aircraft from the USA, 40 from France, 16 each from Germany and the Netherlands, 10 from Belgium, 9 from Great Britain, 8 from Norway, 6 from Canada, 4 each from Turkey, Spain and Denmark, 3 - Portugal[66]. In addition, 42 Italian aircraft were involved, and later the number of American aircraft increased to 480, British to 28, French to 81. Find all the pilots and punish them.
Germany is NOT the 3rd largest weapon supplier to Ukraine.
The order is: US, UK, Poland, Germany.
Germany promised a lot but delivered much less. Please, pay attention if support is pledged or delivered.
And actually, at least in terms of vehicles, captured russian equipment is top of the table, just no one has to pay for it. Quantity not quality, but...
@Jonathan J Poland gave 72 modern Krab self-propelled howitzers (SPHs), for example. In addition to 310 older T-72 and PT-91, 300 older IFVs, and more. Here is the more complete list:
clip-share.net/video/Rsf19dCr4ck/video.html
Krabs are doing much better in Ukraine then German PHZ 2000s. PHZ 2000 breaks down after 1 month of heavy use, Krab can last several times longer. Also it takes long time for Germans to repair PHZ 2000.
1 Krab costs $18,5 million (PHZ 2000 costs also $18,5 million). Plus there were much more Krabs (72 pieces) sent to Ukraine than PHZ 2000s (22 pieces). Germany is planning to sent more their SPHs, but it will take long time.
And at this point the value of delivered help in $ might be higher and Germany will be on 3rd place.
In fact, based on the size and richness of the country, Germans should be on 2nd place after US, but for now Germans are on 4th place.
GPD (2022) for Germany is $4,062,790M, and Poland is $679,067M. German's GPD is 6x bigger, so their help should be also 6x bigger.
Germans needs to speed-up their help several times.
Poland in addition to Krabs is sending also other modern equipment: dron sets FlyEye and WarMate, manpads Piorun.
@Robert AB I've no reason to dispute any of what you say, but you know I didn't mention either Germany or Poland in my comment?
It was solely about how much equipment the Ukranians had managed to take from the russians.
@Jonathan JYeah, this Moscovian / Muscovite (= russian) input was huge in fact, but they are more careful now so this river is dry now.
Ukrainians got up to 500 tanks and also big number of IFVs, but who knows how many of them are operable (many of these pieces where damaged).
Poland gave Ukraine 310 operable tanks, big fraction of them with new engines, better optics, night vision and other improvements. And in total will be approx. 480 tanks (Poland is planning to give all Soviet area tanks soon). There is also problem with Soviet-area tanks: the lack of parts and not enough ammunition.
Poland promised now 14 Leopards, but is planning to give Ukraine all 247 Leopards.
In the meantime, Polish Army is buying 350 Abrams tanks, 1000 Korean K2 tanks, ~800 SPHs (Krabs, and Korean K9), several hundred MLRS (200 Patriots and 300 Korean MLRS), other air defense systems and more.
It is possible that some of this equipment (especially K2, Krabs, K9) could also be send to Ukraine if needed.
So looks like Muscovites will be 2nd in place after Poland :)
As a Pole I am frustrated with German's response. They should really give at least 1/4 of this what US is giving (DE population: 83 mln, US population: 332 mln).
Germany & US supply tanks, Russia use Tactical nukes on the tanks when it arrive on Ukraine soil.
BRING IN THE F16's !!!
They are and the Ukrainians already know how to use them
Sweden's Gripen would be far better suited for rough landing stripes and all the issues in Ukraine
The world will be laughing at that Zelensky comedian when he loses the war and Ukraine gets a new Russian republic name.
Imagine being Russia and having your 3 day invasion plan stretched into a 300+ day losing war.... by a comedian.
Russia is never ever living this down, no matter what happens in the future.
How important was HIMARS and Patriot... Not much in reality, has air strikes stopped?
But tanks are great clickbait
Slava Russia!
Your sacrifice saved Europe from fascism and you are doing it again.
Russia will prevail as always.
Russia didn't prevail in the Russo-Japanese War. Russia didn't prevail in WWI. Russia didn't prevail in Afghanistan.
@Samuel Weir Russia only prevailed in WWII because of the help from the US.
@Samuel Weir Russia will always prevail. Always. God is with Russia and it's fight against fascism.
Doesn’t look that way more than 100000 Russians dead some armed with just pellet guns the fight Moral is low
Yea, we germans are great 🇩🇪
The number of these tanks won't make a big difference, this was done more to show the public that they're doing something. Just for visuals. Nothing in reality.
