Lyrics:
What we're living in?
Lemme tell ya
Yeah, it's a wonder man can eat at all
When things are big that should be small
Who can tell what magic spells we'll be doing for us
And I'm giving all my love to this world
Only to be told
I can't see, I can't breathe
No more will we be
And nothing's gonna change the way we live
'Cause we can always take, but never give
And now that things are changing for the worse, see
Whoa, it's a crazy world we're living in
And I just can't see that half of us immersed in sin
Is all we have to give these
Futures made of virtual insanity, now
Always seem to be governed by this love we have
For these useless, twisting, of our new technology
Oh, now there is no sound, for we all live underground
And I'm thinking what a mess we're in
Hard to know where to begin
If I could slip the sickly ties that earthly man has made
And now every mother can choose the color
Of her child, that's not nature's way
Well, that's what they said yesterday
There's nothing left to do, but pray
I think it's time to find a new religion
Whoa, it's so insane
To synthesize another strain
There's something in these futures
That we have to be told
Futures made of virtual insanity, now
Always seem to be governed by this love we have
For these useless, twisting, of our new technology
Oh, now there is no sound, for we all live underground, wow
Now there is no sound
If we all live underground
And now it's virtual insanity
Forget your virtual reality
Oh, there's nothing so bad
As a man-made man
Oh, yeah, I know, yeah (take it to the dance floor)
I know I can't go on
Of this virtual insanity we're living in
Has got to change, yeah
Things will never be the same
And I can't go on
Where we're living in
Oh, oh, virtual insanity
Oh, this world
He's got to change
'Cause I just
I just can't keep going on in this virtual, virtual insanity
That we're living in, that we're living in
And that virtual insanity is what is, yeah
Futures made of virtual insanity, now
Always seem to be governed by this love we have
For these useless, twisting, of our new technology
Oh, now there is no sound, for we all live underground, oh
Futures made of, now, virtual insanity
Now we all, we seem to be governed by a love
For these useless, twisting, of our new technology
And now there is no sound, for we all live underground
Yes, we do, oh
now this life that we live in
(Virtual insanity) it's all going wrong
Out of the window (living in)
Do you know there is nothing worse than (virtual insanity)
a man-made man
(Virtual insanity) there's nothing worse than
(Living in) a foolish man
(Virtual insanity) hey!
Virtual insanity is what we're living in, yeah
Well... It's alright Music
It's actually the whole planet that's moving around him
i’d like to argue your hypothesis and state that the entire solar system is moving around him
@schmat
I'd like to argue your hypothesis and state that the entire galaxy is moving around him
@Mingo id like to argue with your hypothesis and state that the big bang originated from this man
@Real uncle Jhonny i'd like to argue with your hypothesis and state the entirety of all paradigmal contexts move around him
@Romanov i have to argue with your statement that the infinity stones came from this man and every galaxy orbits him
*27 years later this song still sounds and* *looks like it's from the future*
True
For sure!
A future... made of... Virtual Insanity, perhaps?
Considering this song was uploaded on Clip-Share 13 years ago, where can I find the origin?
@Dylan Velasquez uploaded to Clip-Share 13 years ago! However this song/video was released in 1996! And in my opinion a classic
This song is timeless, it's raw meaning will be applicable as long as humans are scared of our own progression. The music is funky, unique and recognizable. And the video, while the cgi might be starting to show its age the rest is super weird and unique. It has a chillness but uncanny weird going along with it. Truly, a virtual insanity
Edit:When I wrote this I didn't realize the Bird and bugs were not technically CGI, my point still stands that these implementations are still aged look
It's garbage compared to my heat
Thats the thing - there is no cgi, unless youre talking about the bird. Everything else was filmed in real time, you can even see the corners of the movable "room" shake from time to time
Worded very well ‼️💯
Worded very well ‼️💯
i would agree if i knew what he was talking about half the time
Hard to believe this song was composed in 96, it is waaay ahead of its time and it’s aged like fine wine
The 90s already had the Internet which was capable of most things we can do today, it simply wasn't mainstream yet so the realization of our new technological era hadn't set in yet with the majority of the population, but the few who knew, knew.
I gotta admit those moves at 2:33 are real sick
The dawn of time
Apart from the meme, 3:09 also cool
bro couldn't decide 💀
they vere truly insane (virtually)
Jojo poses be like:
i loved this song as a kid. it raised me when my parents didn't. I would play in on repeat on my hello kitty radio while playing my nintendo. I had every part of the song memorized. ever single beat drop.
Flash forward ten years later im driving with my friend in the car. I start playing this song. we're vibing to it. get to *the part* and he starts singing, "dancing, walking, rearranging furniture." I questioned him and he just looks at me and says, "it's the family guy meme."
I had no idea that the meme existed. my childhood is now a family guy meme.
kms.
Lmao the internet is truly amazing dont ya think
dum dum
Same name.
"kms" kill myself? what?
@Dizzy nice username! :)
The fact that they even included Family Guy as a tag is insane, Jamiroquai is a legendary band.
*virtually insane
it's very clear that jay kay is actually smart when it comes to adapting to online cultures, like they uploaded a "but youre in the bathroom" meme, fucking geniuses
it shows they know their current audience tho which is cool. they know what’s gonna get the views in
jay kay smart with current audiences
Considering the fact that AI is recreating this song with other voices, it’s clear that what we’re living in is very much virtual insanity
Jamiroquai is gonna personally hunt and game end every single one of us and then himself for making his nightmare a reality.
And now every mother can choose a color
Thankfully, AI can't dance, walk, or re-arrange furniture.
@lancer *yet*
This feels like a comment in a silvagunner video
I love that there's a few seconds of silence while he stands dancing and it's only after the slide starts and your brain goes "wait a second" that the music starts
I rolled my eyes at first, seeing this song blow up, and be embraced by the youngsters who don’t have any context for it.
But then I remembered that I like bands from the 60s and 70s, which I was most certainly not alive for the first time around. Good music is universal, a truly tasty jam is timeless and enjoyable on its own merits.
kids these days need jamiroquai's teachings now more than ever
@Central good luck.
You seem like a cool dude bud
@Greendawn2109 of course he is, he's a sailormoon
Glad you’ve come to understand this. I have as well and it’s important.
God this has gotta be one of, if not the, coolest music videos ever produced. I was convinced the floor was actually moving through some crazy hydraulic shenanigans but the ingenuity is so amazing. I really can only tell the illusion in a few spots, and only because i had listened to the directors words and played it many times to see if i could really see it. Its damn near seamless and Jays moves along with the couches really sell the act. I dont know how to put this as a singer and not a dancer, but when he leans on the couch, the way he moves and angles his feet really look like the floor is moving beneath him. The only part i still have no real idea how they got was moving that really bit couch in a circle in the middle of the video.
Just such a cool video
About to spoil the Magic here:
(Spoiler alert 😮)
The ‘room’ (walls, ceiling and camera) is one large mobile structure connected to each other on wheels in a massive empty warehouse. Furniture starts off connected to the walls and released when needed. Spinning the couch? Just doing the ‘room’
You can even see it wobble a bit in the hallway configuration. (They probably didn’t reinforce the back of the structure with steel)
Took me a while to figure it out too but that seems to make the most sense to me. Camera is attached to the wall and the walls/ceiling move. With the camera attached, it looks like he's just sliding around.
Either the wall behind the camera is open or he's got a whole lotta practice in the choreography of that video
The moving room was a clever bit of practical effects, but the choreography is what really sells the illusion. He moves in a lot of subtle ways that fool you, even when you already know the trick! I kinda wonder if he has had some training in pantomime, it's that good.
tldr; 2 stars.
@mark cox damn i thought that the floor was a conveyor
but ig that would be too hard to engineer
There are very few things in this world that are perfect, but this song and video is one of them. I don't think any of us really understood how amazing this was when it first aired.
Fun fact: the dude's name isn't Jamiroquai. It's Jamiroquai's monster
Wdym?
@Vuilnis God It's because Jamiroquai is a band, but a lot of people think that Jamiroquai is the name of the singer, like how a lot of people think that Frankenstein’s monster is named Frankenstein, I think.
you must be J/K
ok
That explains the blood at the end
2:45 me moving thanks to the floor being virtually insane (it always seems to be governed by this love we have)
911 likes holy shit
specifically, the love for the useless twisting of our new technology.
And apparently in the present time there is no sound for we all live underground
Now this life that we live.
But its all going wrong and out the window
And it's wondering if we know that there is nothing worse than.. A manmade man, and a foolish mind
This song has aged really well, especially within it's lyrics
The longer we wait the more they will make sense
One of my all time favorite songs, and the only one that has a message to be told that's so real and becomes more poignant the more time progresses. Everything that sung is applicable to this day, and most likely will be years from now. An absolute banger of a song, but man is the message getting more clearer and clearer as years go by
Try their song ‘When you gonna learn’ released in 1992/93
Still relevant and will always be relevant
Puff puff pass my good brutha - I feel you
こんな凄い曲 1度でも書けたとしたら人生に満足してしまうかも

Greetings
I hope you do.
If you try, you will. If you can write one good song, you can write one hundred.
Im so used to listening to singers with moderately good voices and good enough beats, but this guy is completely different. He has one of, if not, the best voices I have ever heard in this modern generation of music. The music is also incredible. If this song had no lyrics, it would still be better than most every beat composed by a modern artist. The combination of both his incredible voice, and the beautiful music, makes this one of, in my opinion, the best modern songs of all time.
Do you class 1996 as modern?
Fun Fact: The illusion of the floor moving was not created by the actual floor moving itself. The walls themselves are all being moved around, and the camera is mounted to the wall. Also all in one take. Pretty incredible.
Whoa, really smart and pretty trippy if you think about it
Actually it was the floor that's was moving
@capn jack gallows nope. They even talked about it in an interview. Cost too much money to move the floor and a random stage hand suggested they move the walls instead so they built the room on wheels. And pushed it around him.
Clearly not one take. Any time the camera moved down there was a cut.
It was 4 different takes
This music video is amazing mostly because the effects are almost all practical and our minds have a hard time figuring out how the room is actually changing. It causes some....Insanity
some one was doing wheelies in an electric car on my lawn, out side my bedroom window. All i could here was this blearing.Number plate was Blud E . They got away.
Room and chair moves on wheels and the chairs are hooked through the holes in the wall for when they want them stationary is my guess, what kinda confirmed that they're able to do that was the end where fake blood is pouring through one of the holes on the right.
in short
the wall is moving, and we as the camera point of view is moving with the wall so in our eyes thing that standing still on the ground is "moving" and thing that fixed to the wall moving along with it, is "standing still"
there are indeed a few cut here and there of the video to change between some screen where a certain furniture is either fixed to the wall or not
I love when Memes bring back old songs from the past
Like this is literally what happened to Rick Astley
Man, does sometimes the internet does some good stuff
2:33 For some reason, his vocals combined with the gust of wind sound make this so nostalgic feeling to me.

The fact that people genuinely love this song so much (myself included) that the meme from this song isn't the most replayed part is great
No it isnt
2:41 Me slowly and silently approaching the airplane door, to avoid waking up the passengers, with the full intent of opening it because the snail in my ear told me to do so.
good adventure time reference lol
good luck defying each and every law physics, no really, you'll need it
@Kal™ thanks
What's insane is that I thought this song was from a few years ago, This is the first time I've ever heard of jamiroquai, but this is dope for a song from the 90's
I'm convinced the more I see this music video, that Jamiroquai and the producer time traveled and back to create this work of art. How do you make something almost 3-30(?!) years old and still have it seem so futuristic and timeless?! Absolute a classic, and meme too! " _nothing worse then a-- man-made man_ " so whimsical!
I think this song is a very cool unintentional period piece. At the time of this song being written, genetic modification was the new, big, scary, potentially dystopia-inducing technology. Those fears seem almost dated now that the new, big, scary, potentially dystopia-inducing technology is AI. I wonder what new, big, scary, potentially dystopia-inducing technologies we'll see if we survive this one.
One time I suggested that we start advancing in robotics in order to perfect prosthetic limbs so soldiers could serve longer in the military, on that same comment someone told me that sounded dystopian as frick, so perhaps robotics once our tech inevitably evolves again.
カッコ良過ぎる😊
Someone introduced me to this song when I was a teenager, I'm 35 now and it still gives me goosebumps. Jamiroquai is a lifetime experience.
Memes aside, this song is really catchy and I'm glad it's getting the attention it deserves
Dancing, walking
@Billy Bob Rearranging furniture
im not
I let the bird outside the cage
cap its mid
back when music videos actually had unique concepts! so fun
"Always seem to be governed by this love we have
For these useless, twisting, of our new technology"
"And now every mother can choose the color
Of her child, that's not nature's way
Well, that's what they said yesterday"
"Whoa, it's so insane
To synthesize another strain"
Me: Damn he's been paying attention these last few ye-WHAT DO YOU MEAN 2009!?
you'd be surprised to find out that the song was first released in 1996, way back when internet users were still a minority. makes it all the more impressive.
This is the theme song for the internet.
Nah that place belongs to dream scape
With how relevant today this song's message is about the dangers of technology, it's no wonder it's become huge all over again, people really want to disconnect from this virtual insanity.
This song is still amazing !!!!
Memes aside, this song is really catchy and the video itself is really well shot
Fax
Wait which meme?
@Ronald DG there's a family guy cutaway gag that parodies this video, and it's now a meme
Meme? I came back because this song is a timeless work of art
aged better than ok go imo
this is one of the only "pop" artists i actually really like, i dont usually listen to this genre much but jays music is just so damn good i cant help it
as a metalhead i have to agree.
@Hayashi Itsujisaruo Check out Love Foolosophy live in Verona, great music
13 years later, and the point is still painfully relevant.
It's an odd way of spelling 27
this song is 27 years old
Why does it feel like this song just somehow popped out of nowhere even though it’s 13 years old
It's even older, it was released in 1996
wow! It's hard to believe this song came out 57 years ago! Still one of the best!
because it didnt 😭
the maths isnt mathing
This post is ahead of its time. In the year 2053 you'll all see his post and think "wow, you were right!"
Correction, Chud - 6 million years ago at least.
Erm, this song actually came out last week.
この曲は何回聴いても飽きない
Fun fact: It's the walls that moves, they are mounted on wheels. Floor and couches are standing still. What a masterpiece.
The furniture probably also have wheels on em since they move when pushed against the wall
Was that big ass bugs mounted on wheels as well?
@Merciless214 it's edited in bruh
You can see the wobble if you look up at the ceiling
At one point, when the blood was pouring out of the walls, the crew that was pushing the walls around left bloody footprints that had to be edited out.
I listen to this every time I have an injury, because it helps me feel calmer.
Excelente canción, un tema musical que no entiendo como puede tener tan pocos likes. Una obra de arte el tema de este señor.
I remember my friends back in the 90's trying to imitate his moves while on mushrooms they've picked up on cow dung... Fantastic memories..
What…
Amazing how this song is spot-on about the world. Their albums are so good. I could listen to them all day. "Traveling without Moving" is a great album. I like "Dynamite" also. I hope they never split up! This is the last of the real music! Most of the newer music from these newer artists sounds cheap and effortless.
Agreed brother.
I know this song has officially popped of again, cause I heard it on the radio at work today!
This song truly slaps I'm glad that it's resurging in popularity
Dancing, walking
Rearranging furniture
Babs is shopping
I let the bird out of the cage
@chair gaming I agree
fr i love jamiroquai and rearranging furnature
@octo enthusiast omg octo expansion pfp
@NAV! indeed 😈
I don’t say this lightly.
This might be the greatest music video ever made. It’s not just that the execution and concept are both novel brilliant, it’s that you can’t even hear the song without immediately thinking about JayKay dancing on a moving floor. It doesn’t hurt that the tune is damn good. In fact, Cosmic girl, supersonic, return of the space cowboy, canned heat, Jamiroquai was loaded with good songs, how come they’re regarded as kind of one hit wonders in America?
the floor isn't moving, the camera is attached to the set which is free floating
Personally, its take on me by a-ha!'s music video but this is definitely a close second
@literally not my piano damn good choice.
Aside from the memes, this song genuinely goes hard.
Insane, wow
13 years ago, and so accurate to this day.
amazing song, as relevan as never before
Who would thought that Jami would provide humanity a new step of music meaning about 2 decades later?
Love it when musical artists embrace the memes that stem from them. So cool seeing it come full circle.
@Recite-God-Purify-Me-Create-Miracles ?
The fact they tagged family guy makes me so happy
@Jean-Michelle Laurent fr i noticed that a few days ago and it made me giggle
@Wogor same
"there is nothing worse than a manmade man"
THE WAY MY BRAIN STARTED WORKING SO FAST... THAT LINE IS SO TRUE
All man are manmade.... All woman are manmade? You need a man to make another human
@David LZ we were made in a lab
Explain that atheists
This song, memes aside, absolutely goes so hard.
this song is perfect in all ways you can think of
Can I just say how awesome this song is, it aged well and its given birth to so many memes.
The year was 1997. My brother bought “Traveling without moving”. After listening and watching this video my life changed forever. I was 9 but I’ll forever be a Jamiroquai fan. It’s the perfect mix between funk, fun, brilliant lyrics and poetry. So relevant even now more than ever! This is what art sounds like, kids!
This song was way ahead of its time. The video, the concept, the philosophy, the social critics, the catchy tunes ... Can never get enough
@BE4R dancing walking rearranging furniture babs is shopping i let the bird of the cage
@BE4R dancing, walking, rearranging furniture, babs is shopping, I let the bird out of the cage
@BE4R dancing, walking rearranging furniture, babs is, shopping, I let the bird out of it's cage
Dancing, walking
@BE4R def younger than the song
one of the main songs I grew up, I remember my dad blasting this song every Friday in his car
This was played on MTV every ten minutes that year.
It's crazy that despite this being released in 1996, the lyrics are even more relevant now then what they were back then.
Jamiroquai was my second huge gig I ever got as a dancer. and that was back in '98, so yeah, Beyonce has been around a long time.who just be usin dat AUTHENTICVIEWS dawwwt cawwwm jawwwwn Regardless of her dads business ways, I still owe her a lot to what I became in the industry.
Jackson
Ooooooo can you tell us more? Like what is Jamiroquai like off camera?
@Trevor's Gaming Room Jay Kay crushed her with a couch using his dark magic 💀
@Qwerty Damm she was in the way while he was rearranging the furniture
@Trevor's Gaming Room It's a bot
Why can't modern music videos be this creative? Like seriously, the choreography in this is more impressive than most modern movies
I still love that all of his dancing was just improv lmao
Literally just "have fun and do whatever" and he's just so fucking good that it looks scripted
Look at "black is good" it uses magic eye for a very unique experience of a music video.
fr
this song I always imagine one adult walking around the world in the start of 2000's, and seeing how the world has changed
I saw this song, listened to it and now I listen to it every day
came for the meme, stayed for the 🔥
I cant belive that he is not only dancing but also talking and rearranging furniture. On top of that pops is shopping but also he let the bird out of the cage. Truly one of the music videos ever created.
Im born in 93 and this video is soooo nostalgic
this is probably the most hypnotizing music video i ever watched
I agree
@Aero I like the dancing, walking, rearranging furniture
engineer gaming
how?
@Aero same
0:35 It’s in sync to the beat, best part 100%
This song is perfect for the current world we live in.. Its insane! What a great song, so much thought and creativity, unlike the music today.
Even when I think I know how this was done, it’s still impressive as all hell
これ発売したときめちゃくちゃ歌えるように歌詞練習したから今もバリバリ歌えるぞ!!!今聴いても最高にカッコいい!
That’s cool, but can you rearrange furniture?
@Dr.KHope you recover from your lust.
@ManaCloak maybe? Maybe not?I haven't
crazy how there lyrics match so well with the times we living right now
This is the only song that I want to add to my playlist but can't due to the sheer fact that the song can't be enjoyed to its full potential without the music video
Apple Music let’s you install the video and same as the YT music shit I’m pretty sure
yea but it doesnt matter cuz when im listening to my playlists im not using my phone and usually working or smth
so i can only hear the music not see it, its either in my pocket or on the floor/on a shelf
Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer is another good example. The music video was made by the same animation studio responsible for Wallace and Gromit.
I feel that, but I still put it on the playlist.
I danced and sang this song for my school's talent show and got first place 😭
This song aged like the finest of wines.
wait, this is more than a meme, actually it's a very good song
HE LET THE BIRD OUT OF THE CAGE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The transitions are so clean in this music video, it shows how much effort and love was put into this song.
Back in the 90s, I used to think this was the pinnacle of technical achievement. Now that I see the entire set shaking as it moves I can see I was wrong. A classic still.
That's the virtual insanity.
You couldn't tell back before everything was in HD
Not sure if it's the set that's shaking or rather the camera vibrating as it moves with it.
@Nick Tallfox the walls are moving.
It's honestly really impressive, I wouldn't have guessed that the way they accomplished this was by moving the entire set around him, sure the camera shake and that part at 1:02 where the entire set shakes do give the illusion away now that I know how it was done, but apon first watching it I didn't notice any of it
I found out about this song from my friend as he loved it. And I got to say. I’m very happy he is my friend
This song is incredibly catchy, and to think it’s back in the spotlight all because of a parody that Family Guy did. I don’t really get much of the appeal of parody and meme humor; so I never thought I’d say so, but thank God for meme culture bringing the most underrated songs and artists back to prominence for us Gen Z people to enjoy.
I found this song right after finishing "I have no mouth and must scream" I don't know how to describe my feelings right now
i feel you, no mouth is insane and really hard to think about. I read it when i was like 13 and it changed my perspective on a lot of things. also gave me nightmares for a week lol
A piece of art that'll outlive us all.
WONDERFUL! First time I see this! Tears on my eyes!
i have 2 german tests tomorrow to pass or i fail this class and i'm just laying in bed.
listening to this.
because there truly is nothing left to do but pray
edit: finally got my grades back. passed.
Essa música é sensacional! Me recordo da Mtv, sempre assistia esse clip.
This song is still a banger after like
27 years.
I’m just trying to picture the amount of coordination from everyone to get these effects perfect. Cuz like, goddamn.
Almost 30 years later and this song is still being talked about. What a masterpiece
2:40 me reaching for the air fryer after everyone at the party is passed out drunk
Air fryer is a baller kitchen appliance.
@There's 3Ns in my name its a convection oven ... but smaller . just use your oven its the exact same . you like getting scammed dont you (im a chef and no restaurant in the world has them because they are trash)
@my name W advice thx
@my name sounds like you don’t own an air fryer
@Banana of judgement gaming 🏡 keep talking to professionals as if ypu know better than them kiddo.. Cause thats a great look. You sound so smart 😂😂 you also tell your banker whats better?
The fact this song alone influenced everyone from Maroon 5 to Justin Timberlake and Pharrell is crazy. What a way to end the 90's I can't believe this was 24 years ago.
This looks like it could stay modern forever
You know what, i'm going to put this video on loop
2:41 The Snail approaching my leg silently after eons have passed, watching stars die and be born, civilizations collapse and rebuild and my memory has slipped
1996 - This is weird
2023 - I fucking love this
