@Jhonatan Sneider Salguero Villa I don’t think so, but in the utterly most cases, waiting would not even be considered. It’s very rare for the ball to be on the verge of falling in. So the fact that he did not give up is cool
@Zozo According to Rule 13.3a, a golfer has 10 seconds to wait for their putt to drop when it comes to rest on the lip of the hole. This is after having taken a 'reasonable' amount of time to get up to the hole. The rule states: "If any part of a player's ball overhangs the lip of the hole, the player is allowed a reasonable time to reach the hole and 10 more seconds to wait to see whether the ball will fall into the hole." In the video clip, which you can watch below, Hodges' par putt nestles over the back right of the cup. Hodges stands there for some 30 seconds in the hope his ball will drop, while being egged on by playing partner Jordan Spieth who is heard saying: "I think it's going to drop." The ball eventually did drop into the hole, but after 34 seconds from the moment it initially came to rest behind the edge of the hole. Hodges wrote down a par on his scorecard but a rules official would later deem he took an unreasonable amount of time to get up to his ball and so his score on the 17th turned into a bogey-five.
For those wondering: "- Under the Rules of Golf (Rule 13-3, formerly Rule 16-2), a player can hit their shot, wait for the ball to stop, and then the clock starts ticking. Per the Rules of Golf: "When any part of the ball overhangs the lip of the hole, the player is allowed enough time to reach the hole without unreasonable delay and an additional 10 seconds to determine whether the ball is at rest. If by then the ball has not fallen into the hole, it is deemed to be at rest. If the ball subsequently falls into the hole, the player is deemed to have holed out with his last stroke, and must add a penalty stroke to his score for the hole; otherwise, there is no penalty under this Rule." - What constitutes "unreasonable delay" is uncertain, but basically it's not lollygagging. So, a player can take an appropriate amount of time to get to the hole for the length of putt they had, then they can wait 10 seconds. For a short putt, that means a player probably has a total of 12-15 seconds for the ball to drop in the hole, combining the walk and the 10 seconds. For a long putt, a player has closer to 20 seconds to wait for the putt to drop."
not to this guy though lol. you only have 10 seconds to wait for the putt to fall. he waited over 30 if i remember correctly. he ended up getting a penalty stroke
It's a rule put in place in 1973 when Don January had a putt hanging over the lip that he swear was moving and he waited 6 minutes while the group behind him was waiting on him and it did finally fall. But they calculated that it must have been moving at 1 in per hour. Now you have 10 seconds only it's either in or it isn't
Hope he does, liv golf is great to watch, you can tell the guys are having more fun in that league. The rich assholes that run the pga tour should be ashamed. Raising the purses after liv starts up. Not letting the guys wear shorts
He was penalised for this. According to Rule 13.3a, a golfer has 10 seconds to wait for their putt to drop when it comes to rest on the lip of the hole. @Matt LavadoI'm worried you're serious lol

I think it depends on the hole.
@TortillasAreNotBiceps really nice 👍
@TortillasAreNotBiceps depends on which hole 👀
@TortillasAreNotBiceps LMAO
The ball had a inner monologue about his life leading up to this moment and the power of friendship
It had flashbacks to something his dead parents said once
Lmfao wat
"It's a Cinderella story..."
At this point the only things that test my patience are other people and my internet.
Sorry bro. I'll get therapy and become a better person. Please forgive me for being alive.
That was their peak excitement for the next few years.
Golf more exciting then art fr.
I like how Matt casually lied bc he’s a golfer 💀💀💀 art is definitely more exciting lmaoooo
Golf is fun to play, watching it on the other hand I’ll admit is boring
@Nlmbboogzno need to hate on other people’s interests
The ball deserves Nobel peace prize award 😂
That is why patience is the essence of life
Golf ball was givin its heartfelt speech
i don't understand golf ball language can someone translate it
Somehow even when it's above the hole and should fall back in, it ends up falling into the other hole and then you get smacked in the face.
@herro you're welcome. 😉
😂😂😂😂
@Jons LG aye ngl u spittin rn
Caddy defo got a remote for that ball 😂😂
Remote … a 🧲… something 😂😂😂😂
This is the most lively a golf audience has ever been
Golf fans tend to get pretty rowdy when someone finishes up good.
I was just at the Canadian Open this year. Loudest sporting event I’ve ever been at.
Someone hasn't seen Happy Gilmore.
The Ryder Cup is every couple of years.
First time something exciting happens in golf
Never waited so long in a video. It was tense 😂.
Amazing , patience is everything . 😂😂😂😂
The ants paid off before the golf tournament really came in clutch. His manger didn't think it would be worth it. Never underestimate an ant.
Lmao
Yup leant that from Ant-man and the Wasp
Nobody Ant-icipated ants until this moment
@Elvijs Lasis Out 🚪
This really tested my damn patience I was starting to get stressed waiting lol
100% there was a guy in the crowd just blowing his lungs out trying to help
Bro is checking our patience level.
It’s 31 seconds wdym
Bot, report
U are everywhere
U can skip shots now
Ball knows how to put drama in the game.
“Son of a bitch ball! Why didn’t you go home?! That’s your home! Are you too good for your home?! Answer me!” - Happy Gilmore
If you realize that that 30 seconds potentially could be worth millions, that was wild
Do they have to stand there or else it doesn't count?
*Boris Becker left the chat*
@Jess Farmer they could go to the ball and just push it in. He instead waited
@Noah karlsson it's there limit for how long they can wait?
@Jhonatan Sneider Salguero Villa I don’t think so, but in the utterly most cases, waiting would not even be considered. It’s very rare for the ball to be on the verge of falling in. So the fact that he did not give up is cool
I think prayer has power🤲
he owned the ants at this one
Spieth has great attitude, ask the player to wait... what an incredible gentleman
That's why he's my favorite. For whatever reason golf is exciting g when he is playing well
Who push the ball 😂
Teach me the golf rules
What a golfer aswell God damn

Definition of "Worth the wait."
Bro, the last cheer from everyone sounded like the crowd when you bowl the other way in Wii Sports 🎉
It did! 😅😅😂😂😂😂😂
It didn’t wii sports resort type shit
@HOurWrld no
@HOurWrld a whole sentence would help communicating
Hahahahaha glad I’m not the only one who thought so
This brought Tom and Jerry chills.
The pure adrenaline rush of golfing
The ball was thinking 'if I don't fall inside this hole he will hit me again' 😂😂

Got my adrenaline pumping!
Nunca un partido de golf se puso tan emocionante
Bro was pretty confident about his work
Never underestimate an ant!
dude was probably jumping as hard as he can while the camera focused on the ball 😂
We needed a comment from assistant groundskeeper, Carl Spackler, "Ahh, maybe I can help".
You sir, are no gentleman, and you are not welcome at Bushwood Country Club.
I love the guys in the back trying to make it fall with their voices 😂
That was some serious hang time
Patience is key, in all areas of life! 👏🏼
Why should one "Look before they leap" if "He who hesitates is lost"?
Not really, sometimes you have act quick
@Gopinath VS 516 patience in the result not action
@R.L J I agree
Most exciting moment in golf history
The loudest cheer in golf ever
Oh my god. Real life Caddyshack 🤣.
“Hey everybody. We’re all gonna get laid”!!!
The grass were feeling uncomfortable
"Why are they staring at us like this"
So they take the responsibility upon them
The earth helps the player 😂
Grass was checking their patience level 😂😂
Edit : First time so much likes 😶🌫️
Getting likes wont give u money 😶🌫️
@k but so much like I got first time bro
@k bro just happy he's finally being recognized , let him enjoy this for christ's sake
A higher power was definitely toying with this man😂
It gets even more exciting at 1/4 speed. The grown grass gets tired of watching the dry paint on the ball and all hell breaks loose.🎉
That man literally hired Ant-man to help him in competitions💀
Patience pays off
The one jedi in the audience:
the universe playing with him 🤣
The ball was reminiscing his entire life
The grass understood the assignment!😂😂
Woahhhh patience pays
This is as exciting as golf gets 😂
💀
Cant have those old heads having a heart attack now
You definitely aren’t wrong
Try playing in the USA, it's an extreme sport over there. They have water hazards, sand traps, and active shooter hazards.
When you refuse to stroke the ball because the wind is enough
legit the most exciting thing in golf history
Damn and I waited
SIKE
We just watched a golf ball for 34 seconds…
imagine it was basketball and the ball stood on the ring waiting till the game is over
Patience is strength! Been my mantra for many years! 😂
You also know mantra ?
@Random Videos ha bhai yah mantra , karma, yoga kuch jyada hi famous horha he bahar desh me ab
@HARIOM MANJHU INDIA aur hmare idhar se gayab ho rha -_-

Of course there would be some wind that would help it move and he waited for that moment patiently 🎉

Thanks for answering because I am too drunk to look that up right now
I vaguely remembered the 10 second rule. Thanks for clarifying.
Christ on a bike that's a mouthful to go smack a ball around on some turf.
Do they have a caddyshack clause for localized explosive detonation too?
I got my answer. I came to read the comments to find out what’s the time limit. I know nothing about golf.
Technically the ball was still in motion just very slow... so the timer should not have been started...
When you realise the ball was shy and moved on it's own because so many people were watching it😳
This is more interesting than falling a bread 🍞
Patient is a virtue. Good things comes to those who wait
Patience*
@Chopper Newgate yeah I screamed after i sent it. Doh! But cheers 👍
not to this guy though lol. you only have 10 seconds to wait for the putt to fall. he waited over 30 if i remember correctly. he ended up getting a penalty stroke
Bro really tested my patience
I'll never get the same dopamine from a video
Idk why they penalized him.. the ball never stopped moving
They penalized him for a rules infraction, just like any other penalty.
@Craig Wollman but it’s a bullshit rule
What’s even worse is you can see it moving on camera… someone would’ve called in. and if he hit it, it would’ve been a two shot penalty… technically.
He could have waited where he stood when he took the shot, but the rule says you can only wait a certain amount of time after you walk up to the ball.
Bugs bunny doing his work 😂
I can’t with these wii sports crowds 😂😂😂
those 30 seconds were intense.
Right 30 seconds is way too long but somebody explain it to her
@Someone LMAO
La paciencia es la reina de las virtudes. Saludos
Not me blowing on the screen 💀💀
Watch him leave to LIV Golf for being penalized.
Hope he does, liv golf is great to watch, you can tell the guys are having more fun in that league. The rich assholes that run the pga tour should be ashamed. Raising the purses after liv starts up. Not letting the guys wear shorts
Not good enough for LIV.
It’s the same golf rules, doesn’t matter where you go.
He shouldn't let the door hit him in the ass on his way out.
Patience is the key 😊
Never liked golf for golf since I was a kid…but the crowds are next level in this sport and that’s why I love it.
Bro literally tested my patience
That’s what a slow day at the office looks like.
Bro broke newton's 1st law
He was penalised for this.

🤡
🤓
U are fun at parties.
Legends say the Golf Ball got tired of waiting
Well, I think it's enough internet for today
Patience is always the key
All it needed was a little help from Mother Nature.
Action packed! People soiled their pantaloons when it finally dropped.
Legend has it that if you move in and out with your shadow it helps
That's true
In this case I think it was the water on the ball running off twords the hole 🕳️
all the dads cheered at the end
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY THAT TOOK 30 SOMETHIN SECONDS TO FALL IN MY GUY
Patience is the 4th Fruit of the Spirit
Our planet, concidering the speed its moving makes this just that bit more amazing…
We need the shot of the marshall pulling the Brian Doyle Murray stat
Good things come to those who wait ✋️
Good things always take a while
He got fruit for his patience
If nobody saw what happened: the raindrops gave it the nudge it needed.
The grass grew 1300 nanometers pushing the ball into the hole
Everybody was staring at that ball anime style with their mouths open in pure suspense
Dude I watched this live on tv, absolutely incredible
it's STILL incredible! !! 😎
can it be explained ? only explanation i can think of is the grass grew a little bit in those 33 seconds 😂
Historican said he is still waiting 😂
