- Every Which Way but Loose is a 1978 American action comedy film released by Warner Bros., produced by Robert Daley and directed by James Fargo. It stars Clint Eastwood in an uncharacteristic and offbeat comedy role as Philo Beddoe, a trucker and bare-knuckle brawler roaming the American West in search of a lost love while accompanied by his brother/manager, Orville, and his pet orangutan, Clyde. In the process, Philo manages to cross a motley assortment of characters, including a pair of police officers and an entire motorcycle gang (the Black Widows of Pacoima), who end up pursuing him for revenge.
Eastwood's appearance in the film, after his string of Spaghetti Western and Dirty Harry roles, somewhat startled the film industry and he was reportedly advised against making it. Although it was poorly reviewed by critics, the film went on to become an enormous success and became, along with its 1980 sequel Any Which Way You Can, two of the highest grossing Eastwood films. When adjusted for inflation, it ranks as one of the top 250 highest-grossing films of all time.

EXCELLENT MOVIE.
And then... Sandy Locke. That woman was like his kryptonite
🥴
The opponent was George P Wilbur. He played Michael Myers in Halloween 4 and 6. He died last month. RIP George.
You mean Tom Tucker! 😂
I didn't know that, thanx. 2 of my favourite movies. A lot of the people in these 2 films have passed..
Great info friend, I would have never have known that. Not a main stream actor but great to know what he as done.
@David Morris Nooooo, George P Wilber.
FKn love all his movies he definitely is a true legend
Клинт навсегда! Великий.
out of all the actors, Clint is the only one I have all of his movies, so thats saying somethig.
You have to love the sound effects in those old movies…. Right turn Clyde
Clyde taking a dump in the police car is a classic😅😅😅
@I am zombie
Likely right popular except with LEO's...lol
in the editing room, they'd slap hams or whack a steak with a hammer or whatever - funny stuff
Old? LOL!
Right turn Clyde!
Classic Clint Eastwood👌🏾👍🏽👍🏽
Probably the most underrated movie of his career, even though was good enough to get a sequel.
@Francisco J. Figueroa Rivera Agreed
Yes and I ❤ it!!!!!!😊
Took the word out of my mouth 😂😂😂😂
My favorite of all times
CLINT WAS THE MAN TOUGH AS NAILS..THATS EASTWOOD TO YOU BUDDY..LOVE THE OLD DAYS..
My mom didn't see the movie until I got out of the Army in 87 and she watched it on VHS and never quit laughing through the whole movie
Почему ?
m"U"m...😁
Bobby mum acting in the movie.😅
1 of my Mom's favorites.
@Keesha Khan m"U"m... 😁
Memories......."Right turn, Clyde!" 😂
I was nine-years-old 1978 until this day it is still one of my favorites-
I was 10...both of these movies were so much fun.
Yup, and Smokey and the Bandit! Good times, Great days!
Absolutely! As you were nine, my brother & I were 8 & 6. We grew up on those movies ( AWWBL & AWWYou Can) . they were hilarious...but in a gritty kinda way..Who can forget the cliche dumb biker gang slapstick scenes of The Black Widows ... & the 'Ol Lady, "Ma" didn't take no BS from them. remember the scene.... "Get those GOD DAMN motorcycles off my GOD DAMN prop'ity!!" & starts blasting the double-barrel shotgun, trying to pick them all off as they scamper for escape like as if it were a 3 Stooges or a Charlie Chaplin type scene. So many more other great Clint Eastwood Classics & more serious action dramas, westerns & of course, The Outlaw, Josie Wales, Dirty Harry renegade city cop flicks, or Escape From Alcatraz, which didn't get nearly as much acclaim as it should have-E.F.Alcatraz was one of my favorites! How many films did he make with Sondra Locke? He gave her a whole career! I think her characters were raped in every movie she was in! She was more than that though- a good supporting actress too!Undoubtably, one of the Great movie eras in all Hollywood history. The Enormous impact that Clint Eastwood made on the entire industry is unprecedented. This man is a legend and he stands in a class in which there are no other members - nor will there ever be, he stands alone.
@M.C. Ruckus truer words about this man CANNOT be said.
@TheBoatPirate Thanks for the patience to read my looong comment & recognizing it's content!
Geoffrey Lewis, the guy Clint tells to, "take it". Was an amazing character actor. He also released at least 5 grown up story CDs in the 2000s as Celestial Navigations. And finally, he was Juliette Lewis's father.
I hope Clint is ok.
He brought our family together at the drive in in the 70's and I just love him.❤
He’s about to make his final film soon!
@Waltuh White I don't think so. May be I'm wrong. But I think he is finish.
I wished drive-ins were still around. Those were the good old days. And Clint looks good in this movie. ❤
There will never be another as great as Clint.
How about Scot Eastwood taking over Dirty Harry, how cool would that be.
? This was the whitest fight I’ve ever seen
@Paul Rossi 💀 bro they fought slow motion
@Alex Herrera Because they weren't fighting dirty.
Ahh... ,the Clint Eastwood movies...., always brings the nostalgia in our veteran lives....
Love this movie! Pure fun and exciting
Watched it as a kid at the drive in in the 70s. Great Movie.
I remember watching this back in the early 90's in jamaica....we only had 1 tv channel (JBC) these movies used to air on saturdays.. good times 🤔
One of the best movies ever..❤
well, it is a good movie. But did you know that the trainer for the Orangutans literally beat them with pipes to get them to act. There were 2 Orangutans and one actually died from the beatings
@I don't really care oh hell no, don't tell me that. I'll never watch it again.
It’s good, but one of the best ever? That’s quite a stretch.
Philo Beddoe “right turn Clyde”
Both films that Clint did were so funny love watching them 😊😂😂
Love this movie! Love both of them really. Saw this when it came out. Ahhhh, nostalgia!!
The only things missing are the broken teeth and blood 🩸!
And possibly x1.25 slowed playback
Thanks for the flash back!! Great movie!
Clint was a very healthy 48 year old!
"Clint" is "Philo Beddoe".....
Noooo..... Philo Bennett was the dorky motorcycle gang leader!
@Richard Furlow I'm afraid you're wrong. "Clint's" character is "Philo Beddoe."It's true, "Google it," I just did......
Cholo was the biker gang leader, the black widows , I didn't have to Google it , " I guess he didn't know who we was”
Don't makem like this no more
They don't make em like this anymore. Classic ❤
He's got those hands ✋️ 4 real!

The Next level Dj.m.smooth
All that punching in the face and not a drop of blood!!! Now, that’s some fighting skills right there.
😂😂😂
Old Clint still got it. One of my favorite actors of all time.
Clyde. 😂
Man...... That's a movie right there.
I was friends with Frank Wells son who ran Warner Brothers and was in the room for several screenings with mr. Eastwood, although we were very young he wanted our opinion of Dirty Harry and several other movies and when my friend's father asked us to leave the room he was always encouraging, let the boys stay. He drank only Olympia Beer and was one of the kindest and most patient man I've ever seen around children especially from someone in Hollywood.
One of my favorites!!
Truly the best actor directer of my generation!
Gotta love Orville at end when he takes the money, 'thank you' 😂😂 brilliant film followed by second sequel. ❤
From Dirty Harry to the two Every which...movies just love'em!!
It's great that many in his movies are regulars.
The funniest scene in this movie was when the The Black Widows biker gang decided to torment Clint's mom played by Ruth Gordon.
Still one of my favorites 🤨👍
I remember this movie. It was like a 1970s fight club. Clint Eastwood was a cool dude.
Still a badass to this day

Good ole day's, my girlfriend I went to high school with went and saw this movie 3 times love it also seen EVERY WHICH WAY YOU CAN 1980 I am still in contact with her after all these years it will be our 40th high school reunion this year.
Sounds like a loss man but on good terms with you 'girlfriend'. With such a good partner? Wished you could of roped her in cause? It sounded like a good thing for both of you. Same note respect the fact it didn't happen and you both? Still consider each other as GOOD friends. Guess some things are not meant to be and AWESOME you both stayed in good terms on that!

@Captain Thunderbuns
That is Great news! I was under the impression he had passed. Gosh, I hope that no one reads my text and thinks it was true. Thanks for the correction. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to meet him. Hope has returned!
@James Bobo : Yes, he is still alive, ninety- six years old, I believe.

My mom took me to see this movie when I was 11. Good times.👍🏾
I loved this movie as a kid. Turns out my future father-in-law was an extra in the movie. He was in the scene with the fight with Tank Murdock.
His opponents never knew how to block or avoid a punch. Incredible.
