Of course it isn't a high duty, high viscosity lubricant, but as a light duty oil for things that don't require attention to detail such as temperature factors and high friction forces due to heavy loads between surfaces or tight meshing of gears/parts, it does fine. I think the whole debate started by saying it isn't a lubricant whatsoever and all I said was that isn't true. I agree with you that purpose made lubricants should not be replaced by WD-40 but as a light duty oil for bicylce chains and door hinges etc, I think it works wonderfully.
