The Joyo American pedal has a cab sim built in, so you can run it straight to the PA system.

Hello. What do you prefer? Kemper or axe?

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose 10 months ago

I only have the Kemper so couldn't say as I haven't compared them. I feel like the kemper is all I'll ever need though. From what I've read the Kemper, Axe and Helix are all excellent units.

I hope you reply to this, but what cab sim are you using?

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose Year ago

@sam wan start with everything around 12 O'clock, with the drive right back at around 9 O'clock, then tweak to your liking from there. You'll probably need to adjust depending on your PA. Cheers

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose Year ago

Hi, the Joyo American acts as a cab sim as well, this is straight out of the Joyo and into the desk (via a DI Box).

  • Raphael Iñigo V. Alano

Did you put it before the reverb, delay, and modulation pedals? Or after?

I do the samething. I play solo and with a couple of bands. I love my amps but one of the bands I play in I use the joyo americansound straight to the PA. its a fatastic pedal for the price.

I'm very tempted to buy this pedal; is there anything special I would need to buy for it to use it at most venues (e.g., special cables, a DI box, etc.)?

    • Tony Knight
      Tony Knight 2 years ago

@Philip Rose Thanks for the kind words. I actually bought it for that reason too. Then as per my response to Michael, I just bought a Vox MV50 Clean which also sits on my pedalboard just after the Joyo and provides and even better backup! Only downside is that to go direct to PA I'd still have to add in a DI although I can go to any guitar speaker just as is! It's amazing how much excellent kit is out there for very little money nowadays -- nothing like it was when I began playing in the 1970s :)

    • Tony Knight
      Tony Knight 2 years ago

That's great, Michael. I was using it this evening for practice. I have a back problem that can't be operated on because of current lockdown procedures and I bought a tiny Vox MV50 Clean to use instead of messing around with my large amps or mixer, and I plug the American Sound straight into it. The MV50 is superb. With the Joyo it's even better.Enjoy!

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose 2 years ago

@Tony Knight your comments are spot on Tony. I actually run a Kemper Profiler as my main rig and have the Joyo as my backup. I have to say when I plugged in the Joyo it really impressed me, incredible sound quality for the price!

    • Michael
      Michael 2 years ago

@Tony Knight Thank you! I did end up getting it. It sounds waaaayy better than any of the amp sims in GarageBand. I've been placing it at the end of my chain as it if it an "amp."

    • Tony Knight
      Tony Knight 2 years ago

This pedal is a no brainer at the price for which it sells. I have the American Sound and the AcTone and both are superb. I generally run them straight into my clean amp, but for silent practice I run them to an old analog mixer for headphones out, no DI box, and it works extremely well. It would be the same going to a powered speaker, but as Philip Rose implies, to get the best out of it (especially if your speaker needs to see an XLR) you should use a DI box - I've been considering the excellent Mooer Radar. For sure, you will need a reverb pedal though as it is a very dry signal otherwise! Usually you would place the reverb before the Joyo pedal just as you would before an amp, but if you are using two pedals as I do, I have found that the reverb works almost as well after the two Joyo pedals. They aren't high-enough gain to give problems with reverb tails! Oh, and the pedals are extremely dynamic, so you can set it to a higher gain and roll off your guitar''s volume to clean up the signal. Good luck.

  • Stephen Lennartz

Sounds great! So ... I understand from the comments that your signal is going through the PA. That said ... are you monitoring your guitar through your vocal monitor ... or do you have a dedicated monitor only for guitar? Related ... What is the most important thing a guitarist should know about the Kemper before pulling the trigger on going that route? Many thanks!

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose 3 years ago

Hi Stephen, yes the Kemper main outputs (stereo) are going straight to the PA (I lock the volume on this output section so the desk gets a consistent level), and I run the Kemper Monitor Output (mono) into my vocal monitor (my vocal monitor has 2 inputs, so I take a feed of the band without my guitar into one input, then my Kemper into the other. This allows me to easily adjust my guitar level in my vocal monitor myself without having to bug the sound tech, and because the main outs have the volume locked, my changes won't affect the front of house mix. I don't miss my tube amps and pedal board, the Kemper gives great sound to my ear and is so flexible and simplifies things (there is a learning curve though). Biggest benefit is that if you get tired of the sound of a vintage fender amp, and would like a Matchless, you just grab a profile and you're done! The most important thing to bear in mind is that the Kemper replicates the sound of a mic'd amp (i.e. what you'd hear out front of house), not the sound you'd hear if you put your ear up to the amp. Both sound great in my opinion. Ive honestly never had better stage sound than with the Kemper. No regrets here!

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose 4 years ago

Thanks - yeah sounds decent eh. This is my friends setup sorry (I just lent him the Joyo for the morning), so I'm not sure what's on his board. It changes regularly though! The sound you're hearing was just the joyo with a little reverb on it though.

    Edward Summerhays 4 years ago

Are you going through a DI box, or just straight to PA?

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose 4 years ago

Pretty sure we went into a DI box first, then into the PA (as the pedal doesn't have an XLR out).

Are you goin directly into the PA system? Sounds great

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose 4 years ago

@Chuck Frost To be honest, the Kemper can only sound as good as what you're putting through, great sounding PA = great sounding Kemper. Bad sounding PA = not great sounding Kemper. For example, our rehearsal space at our church office building has a garbage PA, and my Kemper never sounds great though that (although with some tweaking on the desk it can sound ok). As soon as I put it through the main (decent) PA system at our main church space though, it sounds amazing. So if you've got an average PA, you may need to do tweak the desk a little to get it sounding ok. Also, make sure you main output is set to around -20db in the output section of your Kemper as a starting point, then do gain and volume adjustments at the desk accordingly (this may be why it's sounding too screamerish - the output level on the Kemper is super hot so if you tame it back to -20db then this may help). Cheers

    • Chuck Frost
      Chuck Frost 4 years ago

@Philip Rose Thanks for your help. I am new with the Kemper so I ask a lot of questions! My big concern is playing with a subpar PA system, so I want to get my tone as precise as possible. I played around with the 62 Britt and I can definitely hear the potential. It sounds like a screamer tone though.

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose 4 years ago

@Chuck Frost If I did use the kemper gain knob, I would've only done it a tiny bit. It would've been pretty close to a stock M.Britt profile I reckon. I also can't remember if I used a drive before it in the stomp section (i.e. green screamer), as it was a while back. I don't think so though form memory. Finally, it's a decent sound system we use (QSC system) and it's only been recorded with a phone mic, so that might be colouring the sound a little. Suffice to say, the M.Britt fender profiles (deluxe reverb profiles) should work pretty well for a starting point if you're using a strat or a tele. I now play a Gretsch Jet, and find the Matchless Profiles from Brian Carl work a lot better for that guitar. If you're not a member already, try the Kemper groups on Facebook, they're great and there's a lot of good advice there too. Cheers! :)

    • Chuck Frost
      Chuck Frost 4 years ago

@Philip Rose Did you use the gain knob on the Kemper? I haven't had much luck with that knob sounding good.

    • Philip Rose
      Philip Rose 4 years ago

@Chuck Frost No just a little light reverb on it (from the Kemper). It was one of the free ones out of the demo pack on the Michael Britt website (either the 62 or 64 fender deluxe reverb. I would've just dialed up the volume and gain a little for the lead tone (and possibly the mids).

You will have to get a bigger tank. The clown loach need at least a 4ft tank. Otherwise they will become stressed as they grow. Your local fish store should not have sold the clowns for such a small tank. They can grow to over 30cm. I know I did the same thing. Now have a big tank. Nice looking tank tho.

I am commenting late Kev Lawrence but thank U for presenting the info to be helpful unlike so many people in the hobby. It makes a difference because some people may or may not have known that, and anytime I see the "fish police" being condescending its an automatic turn off. You presented the info the right way.

+kev lawrence Thanks for the advice. Clown loaches take a long time to grow (I've had them before also), I will re-home them or upgrade the tank size before they get too big :)
