Why Conspiracy Theorists are Taking Over the World - Naomi Klein | Intelligence Squared
Bestselling author and activist Naomi Klein goes down the rabbit hole in pursuit of her doppelganger - another well known writer with a name similar to hers but whose views couldn’t be more different from her own. She finds herself returning again and again to a place she calls Mirror World, where conspiracy theorists, anti-vaxxers and wellness influencers make common cause with far-right propagandists and demagogues. In conversation with journalist Ruchira Sharma, Klein sheds light on our own culture as we turn ourselves into polished virtual brands, publicly shame our enemies, watch as deep fakes proliferate and whole nations flip from democracy to something far more sinister.

missing the point
If condoms save one life in a country where babies die at a phenomenal rate, it is worth it.
Everything that has a beginning has a cause. The universe had a beginning, therefore the universe has a cause. Whatever caused it has to be outside time, matter and space. It would need to be personal, powerful and intelligent.
This is the 3rd interview I'm watching today and that egocentric rude women keeping interrupting him is totally unfit for the job. On the other hand, Yanis seems to have a problem with Bezos and Amazon but never has mentioned government created Tesla once. I do remember Amazon's IPO when Bezos was the laughing stock of Wall Street for selling used books online. On the other hand, Tesla and it's affiliates where solely dependent on government policies.
The man that creates A.I tries to warn as how A.I is scary... Oh the irony.
I watched this two months before Hitch passed...since then I've read every single one of his books...watched every video and can honestly say...that he changed my life. If he was alive today, he would have a field day. A lost hero...a fearless man that the world needs.
It is so important to not be hyperbolic with these morons who will semantic their way out of answering your actual question. Spivey literally dodged the question as most bullshitters. The heart of the question was if those murdered due to religion are better off because at least religion exists. He instead pivots off the person being hyperbolic, paintings are beautiful, and he cannot answer a hypothetical of the world not having genocides without religion. He even says 'ethnic' which does not have relation to the strict ideology of modern religions. Yes, humans will use anything to seek prejudice and superiority, the point is that religion has always been a great cover story for most politics. Watch how they use tu quo que to dodge everything else.
While non-tech politicians debate the future, A.I it's surging ahead outpacing regulation.
Nice to see a debate where they aren't just shouting over each other like Peirce Morgan does. Wow, she seriously believes condoms don't prevent the spread of aids. Guess those ol masks don't help prevent the spread of covid either then.
He's impossible not to like...such a wonderfully humble man. I'm straight but I love him...if my son grows up to be like Stephen, I'll be a happy Father....but the Hitch is Stephen with the brakes off. A hero...that I met too soon. This was a demolition...
Demonizes China? Is he serious? Wow! He should go live there and find out.
He’s just wrong about China, dangerously naive.
Putin was justified if anyone was justified they were.
They aren't really comparable, aside from being women, they couldn't be more different.
Don't blame the player!! Blame the game. If the European Union is Fraudulant you need to fight fire with fire and stop dancing around talking because words are cheap and British politicians are cheaper but actions are gold.....
The atheists are good at pointing out the evils of religion . Too bad they don’t consider the horrors of Pol Pot , Stalin or Hitler and Mao who all were Atheists and murdered literally millions . Kind of selective . I suppose you could throw Kim Jung In in there too .
Allied bombing in German cities during ww2 was definitely justifiable as Germany harvested what they sowed during ww2. All are aware of that during the initial days of the war Germany mercilessly bombed cities in poland and Amsterdam in to ashes. One must think that if the allies didn't get an upper hand in the what would have been the fate of the world. Besides what could be fate of the world and innocent people, if Germany were the first country to have the atom bomb?
The implication given in the last sentence is that the people voted the wrong way! May I point out that what those who wished to remain in the EU were much more dishonest than those who wished to leave! Then once we did vote to leave the government and the Civil Service have done their damnedest to keep us tied into the EU's tyrannical regime in stead of making a clean break at the start and then carry out negotiations as & when required & to the benefit of the UK!
Please be quiet about AI. You need to learn about reversible computing.
Richard Dawkins is smiling...🙂
Klein doesn't like walls? Well, then get rid of Israel's walls.
The socialism of fools huh? Epstein, the ADL, almost all CEOs of the legacy media, Hollywood, Larry Fink. Notice a trend?
A lot of conspiracy theories turned out to be true.
I find rabid atheists, just as tedious as rabidly religious people.
Mehdi may have the skills to argue whether or not he’s right but he certainly doesn’t have humility. I’m not impressed. He’s full of arrogance without apology. There’s nothing admirable about his behaviour.
I dislike Dickens almost as much as I dislike Dostoevsky. Rambling fatuous prose with cartoon characters. I forced my way through Great Expectations and never did finish Bleak House. Oliver Twist might work as a musical but Dickens fascination with frail little boys is creepy.
China is the enemy of humanity.
Would we be better off using our intelligence squared to agree in the beginning as one whole? Kneel to trace picture children. G is an incomplete whole with one square angle drawn in Earth. O is a whole measure. D is a split whole with two square angles drawn in Earth. Sacrificed, Holy measured. It would depend if we're willing to follow the words sacrifice to measure together.
ALL RELIGIONS ARE EVIL.
You're called Intelligence Squared, and yet you can't spell the word ASKS?
How can a church be good if it has victims??
“One of the striking and to many people, surprising facts about the first century is that we don't have any Roman records, of any kind, that attest to the existence of Jesus. We have no birth certificate, no references to his works or deeds, no accounts of his trial, no description of his death - no reference to him whatsoever in any way, shape, or form. Jesus's name is not even mentioned in any Roman source of the first century.” "Forged" by Bart Ehrman
yes of course, we have the right to be poor
Quite a funny joke!
Such experiement lasted more than 50/years and there was more than 200milj participates - that place was called Soviet Union. Atheistic communist killed without hesitation. Scientist and atheists have particepated in every last war and are actually behind every doomsday devices. I have no trust to anyone who attacks other person belief. It,s ridiculous and as catholic standed behind nazis, atheist standed behind communist. If you take away religion from primates, they start to act like primates... We have no idea where would we be without religion
Such debate is useless! Both are terrific! 🤔🙏🙄😏
The Archbishop didn't do a great job. I know why. He has great intentions but when you get into this stuff, well, Jesus had the Pharisees chasing him and they stayed in their stubbornness. This is interesting but kind of pointless.
There are dozens or aguments against religion but I thought I would share a few what have always baffled me. 1. Lets imagine there is a humble man living his life peacefully, never hurting anyone and always helping others and his community. But he chooses not to believe in god or any of the teachings of the bible. Now he is going to hell for that. But if there is a murderer rapist who in his last moments turns himself into god, he most likely will be forgiven and accepted to heaven. So my question is, why even bother with the "middle" part of testing humanity on earth but rather invite everyone to heaven in the first place. 2. What part of "god's ultimate plan" does the babies who are born in poor countries serve? They often die of hunger or deadly deseases. Is it too much to ask that everyone who are being born atleast gets the same chances? So why wouldnt god make an earth which have food supplies for everyone no matter what the population is. Also to make human immune system better so you wouldnt die so easily as a child.
There's no evidence that the elites at the helm of AI are going to democratise the fruits of AI. It's human nature. Ask youraelf this do you really think that the elites and coorperations would be developing a technology like this if their goal was to create universal abundance for everyone? They're driven to createe this by nassive financial incentive, in the 1st place.
Naomi Klein is on the wrong side of history.
