Excellent perspective thanks. Love the sounds I am hearing on the net, but I’m worried that, as a beginner to pedals, I won’t have enough effects blocks to learn, explore, mix and match, try different chains, etc. Does that make sense. Any advice?

    • accentontheoff
      accentontheoff 22 days ago

@Tony Emery Got it yeah. Thanks.

    • Tony Emery
      Tony Emery 22 days ago

I haven't tried it. But it's pretty simple. You would come out of the effects send into *insert pedal(s) here* then come out of pedals back into effect return. Then in the software place the effects loop block wherever you wish.

    • accentontheoff
      accentontheoff 25 days ago

@Tony Emery If i may ask another one, how simple is it to add an external (physical) effect into the signal chain, via the fx loop (I presume) in case I feel the need for more effects at some point. And how many effects can one add through this method. Is it simple to do, and easy to manage levels, tones etc.

    • accentontheoff
      accentontheoff 25 days ago

@Tony Emery Thanks yeah. Fair point.

    • Tony Emery
      Tony Emery 25 days ago

Well I would maybe suggest if you're a beginniner then the Pod Go is a great choice because the last thing you want as a beginner is to be overwhelmed with too many choices. The Pod Go keeps things simple while also sounding amazing.

Tony, you always sound great. I love my amps and pedals. Took forever to feel I deserved them. Had the worst possible, unplayable gear for yrs. Worked my way up and traded a bunch of stuff so they’re staying but I got a quad cortex. It’s the first modeler I really like. The feel and sound. The UI. It’s also really cool to fool with. Just my opinion.

      John shields 29 days ago

@Tony Emery Tony what Cabs or IRs do you use for the marshall tones because they sound fantastic man, like on the jtm and 800 and JVM tones you use

    • Tony Emery
      Tony Emery 29 days ago

I have used to Helix. Main difference really is the ease of use the Helix has over the Fractal when using the hardware. However when using software both are easy to use imo. Sound wise both are fantastic. Effects wise I would give to the Fractal. You also get a lot more choice with amp sims and cab sims in the Fractal units but you can get to your ideal tone with either that's for sure.

I own all 3 units and the Pod Go is by far my least favorite. Just can never get most of the patches to a point where I am satisfied with the sound, plus the tuner is sub-par as is the pitch shifter and available CPU. Just picked up an AX8 to see if it would be a good replacement for the POD Go and so far I am impressed with the sounds and features rather than the near constant disappointment I have experienced with the POD Go.

  • אריק

I really wanted a Helix but I am not rich so I got a POD Go. Now I am finding I really need some more effects in there and am thinking of grabbing an HX and sticking it in the effects loop. Am I crazy?

Just been trying to decide on the FM9 or the Quad Cortex. I'd be using it for both Studio and Live work so was really worried that the FM9 would be difficult to operate based on other reviews. After watching this, it seems really intuitive and I do like to tweak, so thank you for your great video. One question though...Mackem or Geordie? lol

Why does no one use a real tube amp anymore. Isn't it kind of a waste to not hear that real tone especially when there is a beatiful les paul involved.

    • Donfleebie1
      Donfleebie1 2 months ago

@Large Coke That’s it. Volume constraints and inconsistent sound nite after nite. Really though, that M9 sounds better too me than any blasting Marshall Stack.

    • Tony Emery
      Tony Emery 3 months ago

Thanks mate. While I agree a couple of 10w amps would certainly be easier to carry...it just wouldn't cut the mustard for me tonally I don't care what manufacturer it's from. Unless it sounded absolutely incredible for live use and it came with effects that could top the Fractal. I'm pretty much 100% certain that doesn't exist at this point in time 😁

    • Large Coke
      Large Coke 3 months ago

@Tony Emery thank you I appreciate that you took the time to explain this for me. I'm definitely a dinosaur when it comes to gear. It has to be a tube amp for me lol. I don't gig. I imagine a couple of 10watt combo amps wouldn't be too hard to carry around, with one being a backup. But I do get the point that they are not consistent with sound quality. Tone turns out a bit different every time. Happy playing.

    • Tony Emery
      Tony Emery 3 months ago

People still do use them but I can certainly explain why I don't anymore: When you play in a band like I do week in, week out, carrying big heavy tube amps quickly becomes very tiresome. We are not getting any younger. Set up and take down times become a LOT quicker. Simply 2 xlrs into the desk and you're off. Modellers are consistent. I don't have to worry about mic placement or my mic on the amp being kicked over or moved once setup. I don't have to worry about replacing tubes or a tube going down in the middle of a gig. I don't have to carry an extra cab. I don't have to worry about having to turn a loud tube amp down at gigs (we have a silent stage and many venues are looking for that now). In the Fractal and many other modellers, I have dozens of amps to choose from rather than the one sound the amp is providing. And pretty much limitless choices in IR's (cabs and mics). I can get a good recording tone in seconds. I can play silently or very quietly as I have neighbours with kids but still have a 'loud' volume either gain wise or in my headphones/monitors. I'm not blasting the front rows ears off at gigs which I used to do (sometimes more if I could get away with it πŸ˜†). Modellers typically have many effects you can choose from rather than have a separate pedal board and spending much more money on pedals. I could go on. But at this point in time, with modellers now sounding so good. For me personally, tube amps are redundant. If I want air moving I'll simply get a cab and a power amp. Easy to do but still have all the pros I listed above. I have nothing against tube amps...I used them for years. But when you gig week after week for years after years, I prefer to have an easy lift in and setup and be ready to go in minutes and everything else that comes with modellers, WITHOUT compromising on tone or feel. Hope this helps 😁

It's so hard to compare units to the Kemper for me because the Kemper soley relies on how good the profiles are. Effects wise the Fractal units are much better I don't think anyone can doubt that. Have fun with the QC I would love to try one out!
